In a recent conversation with my three son's on the topic of where they live vs where I should live:
21 year old: "I'm going to retire in 6 years and you can come live with me" Me: " That would be great, just make sure you get a house, so that I can bring my pets" 21 year old: "No, I didn't say anything about pets" Me: "Come on, it's only five birds. They won't bother you" 21 year old: "No way, mom. "No animals" Me: "Five birds, five fish tanks, a dog and a cat" 21 year old: "Not a chance. I tell you what, I'll find a nice nursing home for you that will let you have pets" Me: "I thought you just said that I was going to come live with you, you'll be so rich and build a house in the country, I won't have to work and I can enjoy my retirement" 21 year old: "Gotta go Mom, someone's on the other line, Talk later" 27 year old: "Hey, Mom, got an idea. The wife and kids and I are going to stay here with you and we can help you when you get old and can't do anything." Me: "Hey, son -- how about I live here and you guys can stay here with me -- if I need help I'll holler." 27 year old: "By the way, that dog of yours doesn't listen, and gets in the trash. Your parrot screams whenever I try to watch a movie or if the kids are sleeping. Can't you just get rid of them?" Me: "They just want some attention." 27 year old: "When you get old and go into a nursing home, I'm getting rid of all of them" Me: "I thought you guys were going to stay and take care of me?" 27 year old: "What, are you senile already? " How am I supposed to take care of you and all the animals, too?" Me: "Where are you guys going? I thought we were going to sit around and enjoy each other's company?" 27 year old: "We found a house that we like and we're going to find out how fast we can move into it. See you later Mom." 29 year old: "Hi, Mom what's going on in your part of the world? Did you get my picture that I sent to your cell phone?" Me: "Yes, but why do you send me one everyday? 29 year old: "You said you liked hearing from me, so I send you a picture to let you know I'm still here." Me: "Hey, remember that conversation we had one time about me living with you when I'm older? Am I old enough yet?" 29 year old: "Hey Mom, remember there is a reason I moved across country! I gotta go for now, but I'll keep sending you pictures. Talk later, bye." How can you not love these guys? How am I going to tell them that I spent their inheritance? Guess I'll just have to send them a picture a day from the first beautiful island that this cruise ship stops at. I'll be looking for my own NURSING HOME!
Help Wanted!! Help Wanted: Need someone to teach an old lady how to ride a bike. Too short for a mountain bike, too tall for a tricycle! I figured out that if $20 = approx. 6 gallons of gas, I am not going to be driving very far. Especially driving in from the county to town every day...
Remember --I don't know? Everyone knows that my house is full of children, and I love it that way. But sometimes there are just one too many kids in the house. Every parent will know which kid this is, the one that seems to live there but you never see them. His/her universal name is I DON'T KNOW! Well let me tell you, when I get hold of I DON'T KNOW? I am sending him/her back home!...
Small town getting too small This past week I'm sure by the comments that are being posted that we have all read the story of the CHILD bringing a gun to school. The same CHILD who realized that his friends may have been lying to him and then TURN HIMSELF IN. I'm pretty sure once this boy started to realize how severe his actions were, he immediately started to regret the decision to disobey his parents in favor of peer pressure...
Bomb threats or boredom? I see that the Junior High is having another of it's frequent bomb threat, fire alarm, rumor day again. Maybe if we start making the kids responsible for their actions and not the parents, they may learn how expensive all the resources are for the emergency personnel to come from town and base to check out another false alarm. ...
Where's the street?!? I recently discovered that the roads in Mountain Home disappear with the snow. Driving down 18th, I thought that the potholes were going to swallow my entire car! I would try to just skim the potholes when another car would come past me in the other lane. ...
Kudos to emergency personnel I spent last week listening to the scanner, as the weather progressed into a good size storm. I have to hand it to the police, sheriff, fire dept. and ambulance staff here in Mountain Home & the surround area. But, I'm just like the next private citizen in this town and I have not always agreed with both departments - but these guys did a great job that day. They were working slide-offs, rollovers and collisions all over I84 and the local streets in town...
Instant "daddyhood" I'm having a hard time understanding something and maybe some of our readers would like to take a shot at this one. The more you read the papers, local and national, the more you read about children dying at the hands of the mothers' boyfriend. i.e. ...
From my family to yours Question of the week - coming straight from the mouth of a babe - Why don't people give other people a second chance? God does.
Hope your family has a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
Manners to die for? I have been following the "Baby Grace" story, now tentatively identified as Riley Ann Sawyers and I have to admit I am shocked at the details and seemingly unemotional tale that the mother and step father are revealing to the police in this case. "both beat the child with leather belts and held her head under water in the bathtub. She said ...... picked the girl up by her hair and also threw her across the room, slamming her head into the tile floor.."...
