I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but Bush appointed Gates to Secretary of Defense and he took office on Dec 18, 2006.

Obama asked Gates to be his Secretary of Defense also and he accepted and left office Jul 1, 2011.

Obama appointed Panetta, Bush did not appoint him.

Panetta took office 1 Jul 2011.

Before being appointed as Defense Secretary, Mr. Panetta served as the CIA Director.

    Eagle_eye's right re: appointments.

I like Mr. Panetta and I'm sorry to see him leave.

I guess this blog can't or someone doesn't want to fix this sentence. It was changed yetersday and then changed again back to the wrong info.

Perhaps we've gotten spoiled. The outgoing Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, who was appointed by President Bush and asked to stay on by President Obama, has been one of the better secretaries in our memory

Bush "DID NOT APPOINT PANETTA" Obama appointed Panetta to replace Gates. Gates was the one asked to stay on by Obama. Panetta replaced Gates when he left.

You mentioned McCains' questioning of Hagel, well after the circus that was Hilary Clinton's hearing maybe he started doing his job and I wish the rest would follow suit. They spend all their time thanking them for their service and never ask pertinent questions about the issue of the hearing.

And Hagel is a TOOL, I think your familiar with that word.
