  • How would the voter ID requirement be enforced upon absentee ballots? How are the poll workers going to be trained to verify the ID? What if there are legitimate disputes? Will the poll workers be vulnerable to lawsuits?

  • Well Old Vet, you and I agree on several points. It wasn't really that long ago that a former regular poster here advocated exterminating over 1.5 billion people because of their religion. A religion as with almost any idea or belief can not be exterminated. At best, it's most radical elements can be marginalized. I believe that the absolute best that can hoped for is an uneasy truce with the knowledge that if the truce is broken we can and will bomb them back to before the stone age.

Larry, the Texas law exempts mail-in ballots and voters with significant disabilities or religious objections to being photographed. Also, there are scanners that can be used to tell if the ID is real or they can use black lights. The same stuff that they use at night clubs or the airports.

Here's the whole problem that I have. Call me stupid or whatever but, I never knew there were states where you didn't have to show ID to vote. I think it's just insane to not have to. You're going to ask me for ID when buying a gun but not when helping to decide the fate of this country?

Another problem...... What is to stop a person from going to 6 different voting stations and voting 6 different times? The whole time pretending to be one of his 6 relatives that decided they didn't want to vote today.

EVERYONE in America knows we have an illegal immigration problem. Why cater to them? Why not make it so unbearable and hard for them to be here that they'll want to leave or become LEGAL?

Old-Vet, seriously? Is all of that necessary? If you are going to make a point, please do it. The name calling and other crap just isn't right.

The REASON this blog is posted is to get peoples opinions and to state mine. If you can do it without the name calling, that's fine but, come on man......

Great video Buckshot. I hadn't seen that until just now. I'm sure Obama can squirm out of it the same way he did with Jeremiah Wright. One couldn't get their hand caught further in the cookie jar than that, but some how he came out untouched. I understand there wasn't a lot to choose from in '08 so I can see how he was elected. But to have the defense of so many after all he has done is crazy to me. Maybe I'm just one of those disgusting racist that Dems talk about? Sorry about the rant...... Back to the topic.....

Here's the thing, everyday it seems like it's something new with this guy (Obama). Am I just that hate filled that I see things that way? I already said I hated the guy so maybe that's it. Is it just the Republican side of me that's making me feel like this? I'm open to suggestions here..... But I'm starting to feel like he is taking care of the wrong people. Why wouldn't you want everyone to be able to prove who they are for something so important?

I'm getting tired of Obama and this administration. A lot of people are. Here's a video that's been out a few years now but it's still a goody. Kinda hits the nail on the head.

Towards the end of the video this popped up on the screen "Amateur video 2004"

What I posted preciously is congressmen Davis has been sitting in the House of Representatives since 1997 why is he still there all these years if he supports the communist party?

I hope so Buckshot, I hope he's outta there. Ya know, it's kinda like the bully in school. The one who just keeps flicking you in the head while your sitting at desk. The whole time saying, "come on, what are ya gonna do? You ain't gonna do nothing. Go ahead, say something. You can't do nothing." Then when you finally snap and beat the living snot out of him, he goes crying to the teacher about how crazy you are!

MsM, I have to agree with Zook. People don't take the time to get to know their candidates. Unless of course there is a movie made about them or spoofs on Saturday Night Live. When was the last time you checked out the voting record or read up on the people you last voted for?

Back in Kentucky my family was always told that we should run for office in Louisville. Not because we were good people or politicians but, because of our last name. There are a long line of 'Ryan's' in office in Louisville as well as judges. You don't know how many people that I have talked to that don't do any research on the person and vote solely because they like the last name. Same thing when you are betting on horses. A lot of people bet just because of the name of the horse. Both situations end of the same, you always lose.

Sweetie, I'm sure there were people who knew. But the way he was elected was by people who A) didn't care B) just checked the box beside his name or C) saw that he was a democrat and didn't give a crap. I'm sure there is a D) and E) but I really don't need to list more.

  • Here is an excerpt from an old (2008) article on this subject. The activist judges that go against the Supreme Court should get their day in court for stupidity.

This is an AP article: See http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24351798/ns/politics/t/supreme-court-upholds-voter-i...

Supreme Court upholds voter ID law

Stevens: Law justified to protect integrity, reliability of electoral process

    updated 4/28/2008 11:50:09 AM ET

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ruled Monday that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights, validating Republican-inspired voter ID laws.

In a splintered 6-3 ruling, the court upheld Indiana's strict photo ID requirement, which Democrats and civil rights groups said would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. Its backers said it was needed to prevent fraud.

It was the most important voting rights case since the Bush v. Gore dispute that sealed the 2000 election for George W. Bush. But the voter ID ruling lacked the conservative-liberal split that marked the 2000 case.

The law "is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting 'the integrity and reliability of the electoral process,'" Justice John Paul Stevens said in an opinion that was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and Anthony Kennedy. Stevens was a dissenter in Bush v. Gore in 2000.

Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas also agreed with the outcome, but wrote separately.

Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter dissented, just as they did in 2000.

  • I have no problem with photo ID if it is applied equally. That means photo ID for mail in ballots and no more signing an affidavit as is the case here in Idaho. Since I no longer drink I can't speak as to having to show ID when buying booze, I do know when I was drinking I was never carded. Same for smokes today. So much for that argument. There are folks without photo ID for whatever reason. No exemptions should be allowed, religious or otherwise. If a person wants a photo ID and hasn't the means to either pay for it, or travel a great distance, then if the state is going to require an ID, the the state needs to do everything needed to get an ID for that person.

The law must always be applied equally to EVERYONE!

  • Okay, now that the nutjob's comments have been removed (who is a fine and typical example of liberal mindsets), I'm throwing out the idea that most of the liberals who keep backing Obama et al. despite solid evidence of his communist ties, racist upbringing and on and on, do so because they like the idea of all those free goodies still coming their way. No matter how many videos or documents you find that show indisputable evidence of who Obama is, they will keep backing Obama and other communists/racists because they don't want to stop the gravy train. I won't name names, there are plenty of them even in this conservative red state. Let's face it, a lot of people don't like other people having more than they do. People are all born equal but don't go through life all the same. Some are more motivated than others, have more energy, more drive, more intelligence, more work ethic etc. But the people who keep backing communists want everyone to live the same, with no one having more than another person.

-- Posted by Second Wind on Tue, Mar 13, 2012, at 8:38 AM
  • unbiased does not refer to asking for photo ID. I believe it had to do with a person's skin color.

Do you remember registering to vote and they would have you raise your right hand? I don't even think that they do that anymore.

Photo ID also ensures that the person coming in to vote is that person and not someone who has stolen his identity. That protects the voter too, so that they are not denied the right to vote.

We have these things in place to protect our voting rights. They only need to be enforced as they did so dillegently in the past.

I DONT GET ANYTHING FREE AND WORKED VERY HARD FOR ALL I HAVE.....and though I dont see the president as perfect I can back some things he does,So from what you posted I am a communist AND A FEW OTHER CHOICE THINGS.

Was professor Bell a communist RADICAL BECAUSE HE FOUGHT A SYSTEM THAT WAS NOT FAIR AND TREATED HIM UNJUSTLY.or do you feel he should have just accepted it.Were you in the jungles of vietnam with REV WRIGHT?? HE just has a silver star and a bronze star to name a few....combat medic with the marines.....do you know anything about them??

HOW ABOUT THIS......Almost every minoriyu from the 60,70,80, was labeled a radical communist who spoke out against discrimination as practiced in this country. There are those who find it convient to label people to exscuse there mistreatment,be that label lazy,no work ethic,no energy,no intelligence,no drive, communist, radical,it all suits the same purpose,,,,,,,if there not the same I can treat them different.THE history books have a very glaring example of that thought process maybe you should read up on it,better yet watch the history channel.

SUBSTANTIATE YOUR CHARGES I DONT THINK THAT IS A LOT TO ASK.

  • Obama had to start with the higher incomes on this real estate tax so it could get pushed through. But that was just to get it on the bill, and he is facing an election. After 2013, when not enough income is generated through this tax, they'll go after the middle income people. This is only the beginning and you are a fool to think otherwise. But we're not going to let that happen cuz Obama is going to be tossed to the curb, where he will have plenty of time to plan his presidential library.

Hi Lamont, could you please list a link on what you are talking about? The only thing I was able to find was this.....

    http://www.sos.georgia.gov/GAPhotoID/default.htm

Saying that in order to vote, you must present a govt. issued photo ID.

I see nothing wrong with that and I'm not sure why it is a Democrat-Republican battle. It seems like EVERYONE would want things even at the polls.

States are changing their laws because they say it will safeguard against voter fraud. The Department of Justice is saying that voter fraud is unproven therefor there is no need for these safeguards. Of course it's going to be unproven. How can you prove something if there is no eveidence, such as an ID?

    Wish me luck!

  • KT HERE IS THE ISSUE....TRADITIONAL BLACK COLLEGES HAVE BEEN OMITTED FROM HAVING VALID ID.I am not talking about some small time venue.....for example..MOREHOUSE,SPELMAN,PAINE,MORRIS BROWN.THESE ARE JUST A FEW......I FIND THAT RATHER CURIOUS,,,,these are highly respected internationally known schools....they do happen to have large campuses and are predominatly black. There exscullsion is the reason for the challeng in georgia....to get this info you have to go to black colleges in georgia look up there names and then compare it to the published list in your link.

Now understand I am not against ID, I am against selective enforcement.I do say there is no fraud problem but if we are going to go this route then we do it fairly.THIS gaggle will disenfranchise as many or more white voters in some states.Free ID HAS ALSO BEEN PROVEN TO NOT BE FREE......ALL of this is not a point of contention for me because when people cut off there nose to spite there face that is there business.I know were this was all aimed and it is an attempt to change the odds in the general election and beyond. The south specifically has done this type of thing before WITH POLL TAXES IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER.IT will not work ,people will organize and get what they need, the students will make sure it happens.ALL THE STUDENTS..BLACK AND WHITE....IT AFFECTS US ALL.

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Mar 14, 2012, at 6:24 PM
  • Shouldn't we ask for ID, when a person comes to vote and their name is Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse or Minnie?

Shouldn't we ask for ID when a person comes into the voting precinct and you personally know that they are not the person that they claim to be?

Shouldn't we be proud enough for privilege of voting to happily hand over our ID, so that every one will know that we voted?

Registering individuals to vote used to be an honorable profession. They took their jobs seriously and honored their position by following all of the rules.

Again, we see that nasty monster called Greed. The desire for votes has gone over the line by both parties. They have taken the joy and pride in our country and made it something cheap.

The Political Machine has taken over our basic rights as voters. They lie, they cheat, they operate behind closed doors with brokered deals and they regard the average American with contempt.

Machines cannot work all that well if you begin to take away their power. You start with the puppets by voting them out. You put a gate around Washington and tell them that they can't go home until they balance the budget. They have to empty their pockets each time they step into the chambers too. We might as well ask them for their last dime, they certainly have stolen most of ours.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Wed, Mar 14, 2012, at 10:00 PM
  • ALL this conversation skipped the point and went to validity the question had to do with exsclusion.I SAID VERY PLAINLY I have no problem with the id .....the problem is selectivity.HAVING WITNESSED THIS BEFORE IT BOTHERS ME THAT WE CAN ATTEMPT TO JUSTIFY SELECTIVE VOTING RIGHTS.THERE IS NO REASON TO ACCEPT ONE COLLEGES ID'S AND REJECT ANOTHER.AGAIN I'LL SAY IT.... THE BLACK COLLEGES WERE LEFT OFF THE VALID LIST.....IT IS A PLAIN AS THE NOSE ON YOUR FACE.wE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT SOME BACKWOODS INSTITUTIONS......THAT IS THE POINT.WHICH SEEMS TO BE IGNORED.

IT would seem that we are doing what liberals are accused of doing, change subject, deflect, misrepresent etc

PS, The BLACK COLLEGES were not left off the valid list like you said. PRIVATE COLLEGES WERE.

By the way, I have a problem with so called 'black colleges'. What if I wanted to go to one, would I be denied? If I was accepted, would it still be a 'black college'? Can you tell me where the 'white colleges in Georgia' are?

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 1:04 AM

PSS, just to add to what I was saying..... According to Georgia law, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Emory, and Duke would not be allowed to use their college ID's if they were located in Georgia.

So, It's not just "TRADITIONAL BLACK COLLEGES HAVE BEEN OMITTED FROM HAVING VALID ID," like you said.

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 1:25 AM
  • KT....those colleges are located in georgia they have been there in some cases a century or more.THEY ARE PART OF GEORGIA LOCK STOCK AND BARRELL mr CAIN IS AND ALUMNI.(MOREHOUSE) aS FAR AS YOUR PROBLEM WITH TRADITIONAL BLACK COLLEGES REMEMBER WE DIDNT LABEL THEM,AND THE ADMISSION IS OPEN ,AND YES THEY WOULD STILL BE CALLED "traditional black colleges"THEY BECAME LABELED THAT WAY because blacks were not admitted to white colleges,HECK THEY DIDNT want them in any school that had a white kid in it.

I can see KT that you would rather not deal with why georgia is being targeted.THERE exceptionalism is the same as it was post civil war........find a way to get around the law and ensure that we disenfranchise everyone who is not white in the state,to include voters rights, segregated schools, jobs etc.Like I said we have seen this before.Simply put this is and attempt to rig and election. It is a BLANTANT attempt, that will backfire.ARE we so scared of equality?? WHY ??????

ON the one hand geogia wants to claim these schools on the other they want to disenfrachise them from the system and society they serve, that is not congruent behavior and you know it,and so do we .

Not worth arguing over have a good day

Lamont, Here is my reply from last night. I'm not sure why it was removed, it may have been because I used a bad word. I used the word that 'is the place where the devil lives.'

But anyway, this may clarify things a little bit as to what I meant.....

    Hi Lamont,

I'm backwoods, and it ain't such a bad thing:)

But, to your point... I'll be honest, I didn't look up what you asked me to look up. I had dinner to cook and my father in law stopped over. It got pretty busy over this way and I never got around to seeing what you wanted me to see.

If what you're saying is true, then it is wrong, plain and simple. If one public schools ID is acceptable, then any accredited public school ID should be acceptable UNLESS it is an online college.

You asked me to "go to black colleges in georgia look up there names and then compare it to the published list in your link."

The link that I provided doesn't say anything about accepting college ID's and is also from the state of Georgia's official website.

I'm slow as all get out. If you can show me where they are doing what you said, I'll be more than happy to email and write them myself and raise 10 kinds of hell!

WHOA WHOA WHOA! I just did a little research and I think I may know what you are talking about. Supposedly Georgia law allows PUBLIC college students to use their college ID's to vote and not private college students.

The thing is, it's not just BLACK colleges like you said, it is ALL private colleges. A total of 28 of them, and 36 colleges being public and able to use ID's.

Now that I know that, I have no problem with it. If we were to include all private colleges, regardless of predominate color, what would stop someone or institution from just starting a private college and issuing ID's?

  • FLASH....did you see Rick Santorum giving a speech in Puerto Rico this morning .......If you want to become a state you have to speak ENGLISH

The Republican presidential candidate -- fresh off two primary wins in Mississippi and Alabama -- insists that Puerto Rico should only gain statehood if it makes English its main language.

Joe Biden... How can you not giggle at the fella :) Politics are just too hard for him, naps are so much easier.

That was yesterday, MsM. And I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm glad somebody finally said it. If you want to be a part of this country, speak the language. Plain and simple.

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 11:49 AM
  • MsM:

several other states had a predominately immigrant population from Hawaii to Alaska, the Dakotas to mention a few whose main language was not English.

They learned the language and thus became states. If they can do it, why should be quibble about PR?

Alaska had many Russian Immigrants, Texas, Spanish and German. HI/Chinese & Polynesian, Dakotas-Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish.

There are times when just having a little common sense and a good grasp of our history helps. Google doesn't supply those on-line. We have to utilize our own brains for that.

If you wanted to be part of another country, they will always expect that you would adopt their main language. Why should we be any different.

It think it must have been a "ha Ha" moment that you were having.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 12:55 PM
  • The HA HA moment was he tells that to the residents of Puerto Rico in a campaign speech.... I guess he wants Romney to get elected....

Currently, there is no federal law designating English as the country's official language. But there are some states, including Florida, that have declared English the official language.

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 1:34 PM
  • What was so bad about that? We expect people to know English in this country.

Tradition is just as important as federal laws.

You wouldn't want France to change their official language from French to Italian?

Just admit that you wanted to take a poke, I noticed that you ignored the history lesson.

"ha ha moments should include Biden's inept comments and Obama's faux paux concerning how many states that there are in the US."

Nobody is perfect in all of their thoughts and facts. If I choose to cut some slack for your favorite dog in the race, please cut some slack for those of us who happen to like what Rick Santorum has to say.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 1:52 PM
  • Whatever KH Kal Yes it was a poke at Santorum so big deal. It's my opinion !! I wasn't expecting a history lesson or to debate history. I have other things to do right now! Your dog Santorum won't win the race.........Get over it!!

It was a stupid move on his part! My Opinion if he wants Puerto Rico votes he doesn't need to shove Language down their throats, It was a stupid move!

My guess I'm not the only one who thinks he is stupid. He might be a nice guy but there's no peas in his pod....

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 4:19 PM
  • Santorum isn't the only one with no peas in his pod.

I still fail to see why PR should be treated differently than any other territory who wants to achieve statehood.

If we asked it of the Irish, Russians, Norwegians, Swedes, Germans, how can we not ask it of the Puerto Ricans? Wouldn't that be discriminating against them?

I felt like a little poking myself today and I apologize that I made you use exclamation points.

There are just some people who want to take all the turns at the swings. Oh Well. I can play somewhere else on the playground.

History is important. We were told that when we elected the First Black President. History is tragic if you fail to learn your lessons about what works and what doesn't.

I simply do not like these HA HA moments from Either Side.

I am going to a memorial service on Saturday for my cousin. Sometimes it is more important to point out the good points of a person's nature than to jeer at the imperfect ones.

So MsM: Here is a compliment that you will enjoy. Obama loves basketball. He is fit and trim. He loves to entertain and attend fund-raisers. He is perfectly clear with his talking points and if you get puzzled, someone in the media will translate them for you.

His daughters are lovely young girls who have enjoyed the relative protection from the limelight. They do not have talk show hosts maligning or speculating about their behavior, clothes or choice of friends.

Joe Biden has a lovely wife. She is very gracious and approachable.

There, I have thought of nice things to say. It wasn't too hard.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Cousin, No words can express what your feeling right now. Words won't take the pain away, but they might bring you a little comfort. I lost 2 friends last year, and the pain is still there. One friend died this time last year.

Life goes on as it always does until its our time.

Here's a poem I received from a Jewish friend at the time of my Aunt's death a couple years ago.

    Birth is a beginning

    and death is a destination.

    And life is a journey:

    From childhood to maturity

    And youth to age;

    From innocence to awareness

    And ignorance to knowing;

    From foolishness to discretion And then, perhaps, to wisdom;

    From weakness to strength

    Or strength to weakness-

    And, often, back again;

    From health to sickness

    And back, we pray, to health again;

    From offense to forgiveness,

    From loneliness to love,

    From joy to gratitude,

    From pain to compassion

    And grief to understanding-

    From fear to faith;

From defeat to defeat to defeat-

    Until, looking backward or ahead,

    We see that victory lies

Not at some high place along the way,

But in having made the journey, stage by stage,

    A sacred pilgrimage.

    Birth is a beginning

    And death a destination.

    And life a journey,

    A sacred pilgrimage--

    To life everlasting

Sorry keith I went off topic

  • The playing field is not level now and it hasnt been so just what are you talking about??????

RUSH ....has been a racist insulting bigot for years it didnt just start now,Bill Maher has been also....NOT ALL OF US GO ALONG WITH THAT AND TO IMPLY WE DO IS NOT THE TRUTH.

point.....fraudulent votes disenfranchises all. That is a given. When you attempt to make it harder for one segement of the society to vote than the other and target them THAT BECOMES THE PROBLEM .THAT IS WHAT HAS BEEN CLEARLY STATED.THAT IS WHAT HAS BEEN CLEARLY DONE ,THAT IS WHAT THE COURTS ARE SAYING.I might add that this is also about poor people of all colors,it is about those( POOR.PEOPLE OF COLOR,STUDENTS,ELDERLY,DISABLED) that have traditionally voted democratic in the past whoever that might be.I dont like some people of a specific ideaology I am not trying to keep them from voting, nor would I advocate as a citizen that they shouldnt vote. You are a Legal Citizen of this country YOU VOTE.THAT'S WHY I WORE A UNIFORM.

THE media and personal insults are well documented from both sides we went here before. What ever your anger it should be directed at right and wrong.....for me it's all wrong and I dont like it.It is hard to see it clearly when you feel you are the righteous, having been the brunt of this kind of thing all my life I dont think you really understand the anger and sense of violation. It DOESNT GO AWAY as some think, the anger builds and it festers and in some cases becomes totally counterproductive. You dont get use to it either.....some should remember that when they are throwing out those insults.BILL AND RUSH KNOW what they are doing and they should pay a price.......The PEOPLE are dishing out punishment to RUSH. I will not argue with that and that is as it should be.

I did some more research and I will break this down.... The new Georgia law says that you can use a PUBLIC college ID to vote.

There are 42 PRIVATE colleges in Georgia with students who CAN NOT use their school ID to vote.

Out of those 42, only 10 are historcally black colleges and universities.

    Less than 25%.

So what you are trying to say is that Georgia is going to spite 75% of these kids just to disenfranchise 25%?

Question for you, Lamont. If a company fired 20 of it's employees, 5 of which are black, would you say that the company is targeting the black employees?

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Thu, Mar 15, 2012, at 10:43 PM
  • KT.....NO I WOULDNT...WHAT I WOULD SAY IS WHAT I SAID THEY WILL DISENFRANCHISE THE 25% IN THIS CASE BECAUSE THEY WOULD PROBALLY VOTE DEMOCRATIC ( OBAMA)The polls from the last election says the DEMS carried the college crowd so those others are just collateral damage. CONCLUSION ...........you stop some in one case and all in another....I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT A JOB.The REPUBS are aware that it would be vitually impossible for those kids to return to there home states to vote, and registration in georgia under there rules would be difficult at best.Take the numbers and put that scenario across the US and you have done a job on that part of the population have you not.?

On the job situtation......if blacks constituted 25% OF THE WORK FORCE AND YOU FIRED THAT MANY SO BE IT.Now if they constituted 10% and but made up 25% of the FIRINGS ......ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT........There could be a good reason, if so that is the way it goes.I will add the same applies to white workers, green workes etc. This is not a oneway street FOR ME stop trying to make it one I AM NOT TRYING TO DO THAT.

I DONT CARE IF YOU HATE THE PRESIDENT,TRY AND SEE THINGS MORE THAN ONE WAY,I DO.IF a black OWNED CORP acted inappropriatly I would look at them just as hard.I HAVE STATED MY POSITION ON FAIRNESS STOP TESTING IT.RIGHT IS RIGHT WRONG IS WRONG THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN WONT SAVE YOU WITH ME.......I GOT A LOT OF BLACK FOLKS THAT DONT LIKE ME FOR THAT BUT THAT IS ME....and I live my life that way.I NEVER HIRED OR FIRED BASED ON THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN......IN OR OUT OF UNIFORM.......LATTER

Lamont, I appreciate your postion and I respect it. I however, don't agree with it.

Maybe I'm just having a problem grasping the concept of not having an ID and why it would be such an ordeal to get one, no matter how poor or what color you are.

Growing up we were dirt poor. I remember standing in the 'free cheese' lines with mom, parents getting food stamps and welfare, having to eat ketchup sandwiches, and wearing the same clothes everyday to school. We were so poor that we never stayed in a house for more than a year. We got evicted so many times that I went to 14 different schools during my 12 years of schooling. To show you how poor we were, when I was 6 years old we lived in the projects in Louisville. Our rent was $4/month. We were there for 4 months before we got evicted for non-payment :)

Regardless of how little money my parents had in their pockets, they always had an ID as far back as I can remember. They had to have one. They couldn't pick up their foodstamps or cash their welfare check without one. Not to mention enrolling us kids in school. All of those places that I mentioned us living at, they had to show ID to rent them.

I can't understand how a simple ID, something everyone needs to survive, is dividing states and people.

Even those college kids that aren't allowed to use their college ID, HAVE to have some other form of ID. You can't be enrolled in college without one, muchless get a student loan without one.

I'll leave this subject alone. I've said all I can say about it and stated my opinion.

Hope you have a good weekend, Lamont :)

  • Idaho, 48 counties, 44 locations to get a state ID.

Here is the link. You old time Idahoans know the areas better than I. Am I mistaken about counties?

Look at the small list of cities. How are some folk supposed to get to the "local" office.

Fact, I deposit my checks in the ATM, I get cash at the ATM, I pay bills online, 99% of my purchases are debit card purchases. Once I have a job or steady source of income like Social Security, unless I chose to drive or vote, I never need an ID. Unless I lived in the city where the office is located, if I didn't drive, just how do I go about getting this required state ID?

Just something for everyone to think about.

  • ZOOK.......it is not the ID itself it is the garbage to get one, cost, and documentation for some. That is the problem.....I see you dont have to high of and opinion of college kids and the law says they can vote. The right is screaming the law, well why should they be disenfranchised???? Indoctrination????? because they dont think your WAY ????? THAT'S PRETTY INSULTING.....RIGHT ALONG WITH PEDRO,MANUEL,AND OCTAVIO.........I GUESS THE KID WHO WAS TAUNTED IN THE NCAA IN MISS DESERVED IT TOO ??????? oh that's right it's a PRANK

I think I pretty much stated that there are kids of all people who would be disenfranchised.I guess I should say the repubs.....dont want the college vote, they would like to cut into it.....is that better??????? IT will impact some colleges harder than others based on location.

IT IS TIME that the setting up of this president as something not of this country should stop.....when you imply that elections are being rigged and that the AG is using his office to insure cheating you are insinuating that any election he wins is a fraud and therfore invalid.Hasnt enough of that been done????? Let me say this.....Give me a reason to have faith in a system that tells me I am a citizen as long as I dont want to be too much.aND IF YOU DO WE WILL ATTEMPT TO DISQUALIFY YOU ANYWAY WE CAN.YOUR LEADERSHIP WILL BE NULLIFIED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.TELL ME WHY I SHOULD TRUST THAT SYSTEM.......You know the repubs did the same to MR STEEL.....and they know it, what they dont seem to know is that although the marjority of minority's vote democratic,They pay attention to anyone of us that reach positions of note.WE watch how they are treated. The entire time of this president has told the minority community a lot about repubs. You have definetly made some egregious mistakes.Even if you win the white house you loose....in more ways than one.

BUCKSHOT.....I HAVE STATED DISENFRANCHIMENT FOR ALL,I ALSO STATED IT CAN IMPACT ONE GROUP MORE THAN OTHERS AND THAT IS NOT BASED ON RACE BUT IT DOES PLAY A PART.I HAVE ALSO STATED THAT THE ID IS NOT THE PROBLEM....ACCESS TO GETTING ONE IS.

IF the difference between 47 and 51 is not a big number why IS THERE concern with .0003??????

ZOOK THEY PROBALLY WILL.....THE POINT IS THEY WONT BE STOPED FROM VOTING THAT IS FOR SURE, THIS HAS BECOME AND INCENTIVE........another mistake.

And for those who tell me about the rules designed for EVERYONE were are you when those RULES are being violated against me or is that just the way it is???????? I KNOW THAT'S ANOTHER PRANK, AND I SHOULD UNDERSTAND........THE GIST OF THIS BLOG IS EXACTLY WHAT EVERYONE IS DOING.....DONT LIKE IT DONT PLAY.... PERIOD.

  • KT.......there are states who have stated it is not a problem they are "JUST MAKING SURE".There for we are fixing what is not broke.IT really makes no difference.THE fact that there is the perception that there are people trying to keep people from voting will encourage them to do exactly that.

YES acorn will come and pick them up and take them to register if they are identified or seek there aid.ACORN doesnt get to everyone Some will have to take a day off that they can ill afford but they will do it.

    Guess that was 2 questions

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Sat, Mar 17, 2012, at 12:18 PM
  • So your answer is you don't know how much voter fraud has been going on in Texas? What about other states? What states are trying to get a photo ID for voting besides Texas?

Thanks for the lecture Zook like I really needed one lol!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Sat, Mar 17, 2012, at 4:48 PM
  • READ SEVERAL ARTICLES.....TEXAS because of it's past has to go to justice to change any voters rights.ok got it....NOW justice says Texas did not prove it was NOT discriminating (MAKING IT HARDER)for minority's to vote or creating and undue hardship.....got it.Justice used questionable data to make the call and we are at a TEMPORAY injunction........2.81 mil(est) hispanics elgible voters wont have id..... got it.

I find it hard to believe the impact is that high,I ALSO have a problem with the high number of CITIZENS in one place not having one form of id or another.I have been to texas and understand distances to places to get things. So were back to what I said....... the problem is not the ID for the most part it is procuring it.Solution....AND OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD FOR LEGAL CITIZENS,IN the case of texas outfit a bus and go town to town, after that period there on there own....matter of fact do it all over the country. IF YOUR NOT A LEGAL CITIZEN YOU DONT VOTE.YOU WONT GET A LEGAL ID.....PROBLEM SOLVED...!!!!!!

THE 1964 VOTERS RIGHTS ACT SERVED AND STILL SERVES A PURPOSE.DOJ USED ESTABLISHED CASE LAW.I UNDERSTAND PERCEPTION I AGREE THE DOORS SHOULD NOT BE THROWN OPEN TO ILLEGAL VOTING SO LETS GET TO THE SOLUTION RATHER THAN THE FINGER POINTING.

THE politics of it goes both ways and there both guilty it's just who got there first.......my opinion

Lamont, I'm with ya. How can 2.81 million hispanics not have ID's in a single state.

Also, the bus to town is a good idea. But, you know you are going to hear both sides complaining about that. "It's too hard for them to ride a bus." "It's descrimination for them to have to ride a bus." "We shouldn't have to bend over backwards for these people."

I agree with the last one :)

There is no easy solution for this mess unless we make it even across the board. You even said that yourself.

The supreme court ruled in 2008 that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights. I say we go with that. If you know you are going to want to vote in the 2016 election, well then you have 4 years to get an ID. WE HAVEN TO START SOMEWHERE, RIGHT?

Hope you are enjoying your weekend, Lamont :)

Also, you and Buckshot should be friends. Both of you guys seem like great guys and both of you are really passionate about what you believe in. Don't let that passion, from either side, get to you buddy :)

MsM, I tried to be nice, sweetie, I tried to be as polite as possible. I think that you just post stuff to start arguements. Some of the stuff you say seems like you are looking to pick a fight. Have you ever thought about joining a wrestling team?

Your father-in -law will tell you awhile back I asked questions about something I didn't know and Homer who used to be on here helped me understand what it was.

I should join a wrestling team? How RUDE ! I don't think soon to be 67 years old will qualify me for that.

MsM, You didn't ask a couple of questions looking for an answer. You asked a couple of questions so you could make a response. No one answered your question but yet you followed it up with, "I was asking why you want a 1964 civil rights law changed?"

Don't change it to this "i was just wanting to understand" crap.

I hadn't said anything about having a 1964 civil rights law changed.

Do you even know which 1964 civil rights law you are talking about or did you just happen to run across one when you were 'googling' on the internet?

Zook, Lamont, Buckshot, Jessie, KH, CJW, Warren, OM, and everybody else out there atleast try to have solutions to a problem. The only thing you can come up with is arguements. If ANYBODY from the right has an opinion, they are automatically wrong in your book! How about you change your way of thinking and become part of the solution?

And as far as saying you should join a wrestling team, that's not what I said. I said, " have you ever THOUGHT ABOUT joining a wrestling team?"

The next time you want to go spewing off at the mouth, how about you read what is said first?

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Sun, Mar 18, 2012, at 12:31 AM
  • KT I addressed my questions "You Guys" open to anyone who wanted to answer my questions.

I have stated before that I was for Photo ID when voting. It only makes sense to have to show one.

I don't understand why you think I was trying to argue by asking questions?

I don't have a solution to fix the problem with the people that find it hard to get a photo ID so I have No solution to give you.

I wanted to know if they are having a big problem with voter fraud down in Texas as they did years ago in Flordia.

I mentioned the civil rights act of 1964 which started the ball rolling for Johnson to sign the voting rights act of 1965

    Here's a couple links

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964

    http://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc.php?flash=true&doc=100

Here's another link that explains what states have already been cleared for photo Id's and what states are in the process of getting clearance and then of coarse the 2 states Obama blocked.

    http://www.ncsl.org/legislatures-elections/elections/voter-id-state-requirements...

Also Kt if you go through the comments you will see that Zook answered and I answered back to him

If you didn't mean that I should join a wrestling team then what did you mean when you wrote " have you ever THOUGHT ABOUT joining a wrestling team?"

I hope you don't have a headache from drinking all that green beer

    Good Morning Buckshot

As far a voter fraud is concerned, here is a link to a "non-comprehensive survey of recent prosecutions of vote fraud across the country".

    http://www.rnla.org/votefraud.asp

The survey results were published in 2011 and reportedly cover cases prosecuted across the nation since 2000.

By the way, this is just something I stumbled upon, and I will let each of you make your own judgements as to its relevence.

I will add that my research tends to make me believe that the current DOJ flap with the Texas situation stems from the fact that Texas WAS cited for violations of the 1964 Voting Act, those citations were upheld by the Supreme Court, and the state has been subject to added federal oversight through several changes in administration.
