November is a Ways Away

I wouldn't normally use the content of an e-mail for a blog entry, but this one seemed to fit some of the on-going discussions here. And while it's taken a few months to make it to my inbox and that of my baby-boomer friends, the message will be timely for a few more months. I did change one word to make it allowable for posting, but other than that, the rest is verbatim. I have no idea who the author is, but here is what it said:

"Some Democrats don't understand the DEBT CEILING; most Liberals don't understand the DEBT CEILING; and many Republicans don't understand the DEBT CEILING.

And most politicians don't seem to understand the DEBT CEILING.

So, allow me to give this analogy ...

Let's say you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood. Your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do?

Raise the ceilings, or pump out the (sewage)?

Your choice is coming in November. Don't miss the opportunity."

Now for my take:

The upcoming few months allows Americans an opportunity to determine their individual preference for the future of this republic. Every American that registers and votes will have a say in who succeeds on a national level. The 2012 ballot will include one chance to vote for a Presidential candidate and one candidate for the House of Representatives here in Idaho. Others will have the opportunity to vote for Senatorial candidates.

Several news agencies are already predicting that as much as 85 percent of political ads this year will be aimed at "attacking" the candidate's opponent rather than providing substantive discussion about real issues or problems. With the ease of publishing and posting non-factual, distracting or divisive content on the web, it should be incumbent on all voters to look beyond their normal Google, Yahoo or Bing search engines.

If you are not willing to try or "trust" another search engine, at least scroll past the first page of results and click on several links with key words that do not describe your personal views. Mark some of the opposing sites and go back in a day or two and read the content again.

There is indeed a lot at stake in November and any and every one that votes owes it to themselves and the nation to make an informed decision.

Exactly Wh67... lilacs are a short lived fix. Like a bandage on a gaping wound.

Pumping is the immediate action for one house, but all of the houses on the line need to address the obstruction in the line, lest they will need the pump as well. And the sweet smell of lilacs doesn't last long.

Well the world's suppose to come to an end at the end of the year... We all got to die sometime.

I'm not smelling anything stinky only the perfumy odor of lilacs in the backyard.

Some may "get used to it" they think...but if long enough ...it WILL KILL. That's a fact, But in a weakened state, a person might not realize they are taking their last breath.

Perfect analogy ... funny too! I'd pump for sure, but I know some would raise the ceilings. Ya know, if you are around that stench for long enough it'll make ya sick. Can even kill ya...how's that for consequences?

It is a very long time to November. Lots of sewer lines rupturing every day. Pee-Yew!!!

Life is good, if you can put everything into perspective. Zip through the campaign ads or push the mute button.

And most of all quit kicking your neighbor's dog.

I was born September 17, 1949 in Caldwell, Idaho. Like Idaho's climate, I have a dry sense of humor. It may be a result of faulty genetics, but I come from sturdy stock. My great grandfather once served as a postmaster right on the line between Camas and Elmore Counties and is buried on what was once his land. According to research my only sibling has done, we generally agree that he started his westward trek in Indiana sometime after 1838 and died of pneumonia in 1911. If Google earth is correct, there are at least 2.5 million average steps between Ripley County, Indiana and his gravesite.
