What ever happened to the whole truth??Posted Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 8:03 AM
This blog is because I got an e-mail this morning from a friend here on the blogs and it had a video attached. I watched the video, and replied "What can I say. But the fact is, the people in his district have spoken and no one has the right to over rule them."
A few minutes after send the reply, I realized that I had taken the video at face value and didn't research it or the subject of the video. This behavior is becoming more and more common today. The 30 second sound bite and the internet have lead to campaigns based on half truths and what could be considered almost bald faced lies, if all the pertinent information was included.
This was my next response to the sender of the video I got, after I did some research.
"In December 2009, Johnson revealed that he had been battling Hepatitis C for over a decade, which resulted in slow speech and a tendency to regularly get "lost in thought in the middle of a discussion". Johnson said that he learned he had the disease in 1998 but does not know how he contracted it. The disease has damaged his liver and led to thyroid problems. He was treated with a combination of ribavirin and interferon at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In February 2010, Johnson finished an experimental treatment for Hepatitis C, resulting in weight gain and increased energy."
It only took about 90 seconds to find this information. Have we become so lazy or rabid partisan that we can't can't do a little research today?
Is this the future of the Republic? Ruled by sound bites and half truths, or out right lies? An electorate to lazy to gather any other information to determine the truth?
A whole blog was written not long ago based on an e-mail full of faulty information. It took about 5 minutes I think to refute the 2 untruths presented.
This campaign, more than any other I can remember seems to based on destroying the other guy, with little if any regards to the truth or whether the whole issue is pertinent.
IS THIS BEHAVIOR WHAT YOU WANT FOR THE FUTURE OF THE REPUBLIC?
WE THE PEOPLE BEING FED AND LEAD BY LIES AND HALF TRUTHS?
Wake up and do a little independent research. That means from both sides of the aisle. Somewhere in between lies the truth.

I'm an almost 61 year old transplant from California 6 1/2 years ago. I work in road construction, those dastardly flaggers. My family roots go back to New England farms, not the big city. The last town I lived in when in California grew from 16K to 40K in 10 years, and that was enough to drive me out. I don't engage in or tolerate name calling. Name calling reduces an adult discussion to grade school play yard level. I have never served in the military, but have family members who have, dating back to WW1. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I am neither extremely Liberal or Conservative. I am raising my 16 year old grandson, not what I expected at this age, and dealing with those issues as well as my health and near retirement which are 2 things I intend to talk about. I decided to try my hand at this thanks to the warm welcome I have received on Mike's blog. When I take a position, I will defend it until I am shown that I am mistaken, and when that happens, I apologize. There are other things about me that will come out over time I'm sure.
