    Agreed.

I don't think it is meant as being owed something, but striking out on your own and using your abilities. And not begrudging others for theirs.

George Washington Carver was a very humble man. He never expected a handout in his life and he taught his students to be as independent as they possibly could. Remember, this was in an era of deep prejudice. Especially for an educated black man. He also caught flak from other black individuals because he had managed to get a college education.

Thank you everyone. This is almost a record for me in one week, but there are times when I feel impressed to write something that needs to be shared.

I agree with you totally about our own responsibility for this mess that we are in.

When you pull up a clump of crabgrass, you can't get all the root out. Any bit of root that's left behind will produce another undesirable plant with its own roots and seeds.

You have to control it early every season. It takes alot of time and effort.

  • You have a good point Mr. Thompson.

Right on about measuring twice and cut once. Laughing I remember what I use to say, "measure once and cut twice and the darn board still came out to short", and I did measure twice and at times still got it wrong and ended up with the item to short. Its easy to take it off but hard to try and put it back on.

  • I am the same about scissors. I usually end up with nothing if I am not careful.

We were paying for the uninsured before PPACA.

"Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."

It appears that statement is not entirely factual.

"Illegal immigrants are specifically excluded from the individual mandate, are barred from purchasing insurance through state exchanges, and are not eligible for any ACA supports. (For a useful summary, see the Congressional Research Service, Treatment of Noncitizens under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, http://www.ciab.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=2189"

But HR3200 died and didn't make it to the President for a signature.

A House Resolution is not Public Law.

  • Regardless of what has been passed or not, they are up to no good with our tax dollars.

Again I will say, how do these people measure up to the likes of our leaders and innovators in the past?

KHGal, I don't believe we can fairly compare present and past. Those "leaders and innovators " of the past faced the challenges of their time and were successful in overcoming some challenges that they faced, while failing in other areas.

This is interesting, but off topic, so I'll just post the link.

  • They may have failed in some areas, but the moral fortitude that they lived by is something that we lack today in our society.

Every era has a set of challenges. But what has not changed since the beginning of man is their nature. You will always find good and bad, same behavior and moral failures. But the people of the past stood for something and I don't think that it is too much to expect anyone of this era to expect that too from our elected officials.

We are entitled to what our founding fathers fought for in forming this nation. The fact that we have frittered these liberties away is a sad thing.

They were not perfect men, but for a period of time, they came together and created timeless documents in which to set our nation apart from everyone else.

That has not changed. We are not "enlightened" when you look at all the clamoring for "special" favors to justify behavior or entitlements.

The gist of the matter is everyone wants to be the head cook and as a consequence, no one is getting a decent soup on the front burner. And trying to add all the ingredients that everyone wants to put in, makes the soup bitter instead of hearty and nourishing.

Leading by example is the most powerful persuader in the world. But when you have a certain few who think that everyone else has to toe the line but them, it all goes wrong.

Evidence of those who are enjoying themselves on our dime is maddening to say the least. And I don't mean welfare recipients either.
