    Great story Bonnie. What got my attention was the oatmeal cake and the topping. Maybe you could give it to me sometime, sure sounds good.

  • I found the recipe on-line under cooks.com

    The name of the recipe is Lazy Dazey Oatmeal Cake.

    1 c-quick oats

    1 1/3 c-boiling water

    1/2 cup shortening

    1 c-light brown sugar packed

    1 c-sugar

    1 1/3 cups flour

    2 eggs

    1 tsp vanilla

    1 tsp cinnamon

    Pour Boiling Water over the oats, let stand and cool. Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add Eggs and blend. Stir in Cinnamon, Flour and warm oats to mixture. stir well. Pour into a greased and floured pan. Bake @ 350 Degrees for 35 minutes

    Frosting:

    6 tbsp of melted butter

    1/2 cup of brown sugar

    1/4 cup of canned milk

    1/2 tsp of vanilla

    1 cup coconut

    1/2 cup of chopped nuts

    combine and spread on cooled cake put into the oven until the frosting bubbles.
