California And Drivers' Licenses For Illegal Immigrants

Posted Monday, October 1, 2012, at 9:44 AM

Muchas Gracias Senor Obama! Mexico Loves You.
Hmmmmmm. Who would have ever thought that Obama's "Immigrant Amnesty" program would ever lead to illegals being allowed to vote in an election? "They" laughed when we said this is where things were going. "They" said it would never happen and "we" were paranoid and being racist bigots.

Well, here we go! California should be so proud! Told ya so!

"This ain't got a THING to do with you "waiting on your porch" loaded and ready with that shotgun you told me about. In fact, just to PROVE that point in good faith----if that "scattergun" of yours is either a 12 or 20 gauge, I'll even GIVE you a few boxes of SHELLS for it--------------(something I surely would NOT do, if I thought "we might be COMING AFTER you" later). You'll never see me on your street unless it's to give you a hand with something."

P.S. Just so we don't misunderstand each other , what and WHO are you gonna be coming after?

Oh so veiled.

Both, when you consider what a person's motive is for coming into this country illegally.

I would think that would be evident. think of how many terrorists were where here for months or years prior to 911.

And then think upon those who cross the border into our country and take advantage of all that we have to offer. They have even gotten tax refunds with just the earned income credit or putting several ssn on their tax forms.

The list could go on and on, but the real crux of the matter is America is the land of the free, but not the Santa Claus that everyone expects them to be. Somewhere a line needs to be drawn.

I would include the "free ride" recipients as those gov't employees who don't pay their taxes and enjoy all the perks and benefits that the working stiff doesn't get.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Wed, Oct 3, 2012, at 3:31 PM

"No Dave.....the "root" of the problem is that this government gives them a free ride as an incentive."

Posted by bazookaman on Wed, Oct 3, 2012, at 7:59 AM

Yes......including TERRORISTS who are most likely ALREADY setting up "Cells"...........

THIS is the REAL reason the borders need to be closed.....but few understand that.

Posted by bazookaman on Wed, Oct 3, 2012, at 8:41 AM

Which is it then, "free ride" or terrorists?

I'm done on this.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Wed, Oct 3, 2012, at 12:34 PM

I believe that we'd have people coming across the border whether they got the "free ride" or not.

I was under the impression that the driver's licenses for illegals have certain markings on them to indicate the bearer is not a U.S. citizen? Was I wrong?

Not trying to make a point, I am genuinely curious.

-- Posted by lilmissmelmo on Wed, Oct 3, 2012, at 7:27 AM

The root of the problem lies in the conditions that compelled them to migrate here.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:21 PM

The long and the short of it is this:

Illegals will vote. With ID or without. There really is not much that you have to "prove" to be able to vote. Felons vote too and own guns!

On the illegals front---if they were not ALLOWED to stay here---ILLEGALLY (Illegal/Illegally being the key words), this would not be an issue. Being in the US without the proper paperwork, is against the law. All of those people who were granted "amnesty" are by definition CRIMINALS because they were (before "amnesty") here ILLEGALLY! That is really the root of the problem.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 3:48 PM

Again,

if we have to show our ID for any other purpose in life, what is the problem with showing it when we vote?

No One is protesting having to produce an ID for going into a bar, public, state or federal building.

No One is feeling left out when they have to produce a photo ID to travel.

Any application for car rentals, government assistance or job applications.

Voter fraud is something that an individual commits, not a political party. Although, they might have a party preference.

I have to show my ID when I vote here. I am proud to do so. In fact, my voting district has lots of senior citizens and they aren't complaining. We also have a diverse grouping of ethnic backgrounds too.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 2:07 PM

KT Actually I heard about the Republican Voter Fraud as I was searching for a show to watch on tv "Breaking Amish"

It was the "Ed Show" and Ed was talking about it, so I stopped long enough there on that channel to hear what he was saying.... I then found my show I had been searching for. Today I decided to mention it and gave you a link to the story. That just happens to be one of the first links that came up when I was searching online for the story. There are more places out on the internet that has the story, so go pick your favorite news source.

I hope this clears it all up for you on why I choice that particular link

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 1:54 PM

I agree MSM, it could be happening on both sides but two worngs don't make it right. Now what's the solution? Or do we just continue to ignore it? Keep in mind that anything proposed today will not be in place by November so it will not have any affect on the current administration but might the next go around.

-- Posted by TundraRat on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 1:03 PM

Oh, and since you like to post links with the racist, Martin Bashir, as the mouthpeice, here's one for you.

This scumbag is trying to say that we have white greivance because there is a black man in the White House. You can take everything this RACIST says and shove it!

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 12:21 PM

MsM, this was on Fox News. It was talked about even before the air date of the story you linked. It's funny how they are quick to point out that this consulting group is a hand of the GOP but, when Acorn and voter fraud is mentioned, Democrats are nowhere in the headlines of most of your "news" papers.

BTW, the GOP has denounced what this consulting group did and called for the prosocution of anyone involved. Didn't see that happening on your side. Remember the Black Panthers outside the polling booths with billy clubs? Wonder why nothing ever happened to them?

It's odd that I have never seen you list a link to ACORN or the NBPP and all the fraud and intimidation that went on with them.

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 12:01 PM

p.s. You probably won't hear about that on Fox News!

-- Posted by MsMarylin on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 11:35 AM

Maybe the Republicans need to worry about their own party when it comes to voter fraud.

I'm new to these blogs and I don't know if illegal voting has been wide spread or only miniscule in the past but the potential is there. With that said, my question for the liberal of the topic is: Should everyone legal or illegal be allowed to vote? If the answer in no: How do we verify that voters are qualified to vote?

-- Posted by TundraRat on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:04 AM

Here's the bottom line.... These people are here illegally! They are not undocumented immigrants, workers, whatever.. they are illegals!

You can claim that they are in and raised illegally in this country through no fault of their own, therefore they should be granted all the rights we have.

My parents were too poor to send me to a dentist as a kid. We didn't have tooth brushes or tooth paste. If my teeth had rotted out, through no fault of my own, would I be able to come back and claim this in my adult years? Would the taxpayers have to take care of my teeth?

This is all insane! They are issuing these people DL's so they can be on the roads legally but, don't care that they are in the country ILLEGALLY???

I feel like Rod Serling is going to step out any minute now and tell me how I have entered the "Twilight Zone">

-- Posted by KentuckyTransplant on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 11:16 PM

And the KDVR story.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 7:06 PM

Thumbs up to Observer with the Washington Post article.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:57 PM

And I think I've been doin' the factual refutin'.

You're worried that a CA Driver's license = A Voter ID = A check in the box next to President Obama's name on Election Day

But as our discussion has shown, those fears are baseless.

Another way to look at this: Think of all the undocumented illegal immigrants that will no longer be undocumented. The government will know who they are and where they live and may, at any time, round them up and send them back to where they came from. That's what you want isn't it?

Count on Governor Romney to take care of it. He's said he's not going to round up undocumented immigrants.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:54 PM

"QUICK someone put it in the newspaper that there is a law against driving drunk!

No one will ever be killed by a drunk driver again because of course there is a law against it."

-- Posted by cant justwatch on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 3:47 PM

Drunk driving laws aren't foolproof. Voter ID laws aren't foolproof. I didn't say they were. So, you're right. Nobody said voter ID laws were foolproof.

Don't shoot me! I'm only the piano player!

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:34 PM

And voter ID laws will prevent all instances of voter fraud?

It's clear that the fears expressed by some are founded on speculation. And bad speculation at that.

If the deferred action program had been put forth with the intent of gaining the votes of illegals, it wasn't thought through very well was it?

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 5:41 PM

To expand a little on wh67's post:

Qualifications

To register to vote in California, you must be:

A United States citizen,

A resident of California,

18 years of age or older on Election Day,

Not in prison or in county jail (serving a state prison sentence or serving a term of more than one year in jail for a defined "low-level" felony), or on parole, post release community supervision, or post-sentencing probation for a felony conviction (for more information on the rights of people who have been incarcerated, please see the Secretary of State's Voting Guide for Currently or Formerly Incarcerated Californians), and

Not found by a court to be mentally incompetent.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 3:38 PM

It's only upside down if the individuals eligible to participate in the deferred action program actually vote.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/08/1...

I understand the California law covers only the individuals who have been granted the deferred action.

According to the California Voter Registration Drive Manual, a drivers license or state issued ID is required to REGISTER to vote, and is listed on the application for a California Voter Registration Card. which is required to vote.

"Item 11: California Driver's License or Identification Card Number or, if

None, Partial Social Security Number

A person must provide a driver's license or state identification card number where it is

requested on the card. If a person does not have a driver's license or state

identification card number, the person must provide the last four digits of their social

security number.

If county elections officials verify that the person does not have any of the above

numbers, a unique identification number will be assigned to the person.

County elections officials must verify all identification numbers provided for a person,

as well as the absence of a driver's license or state identification number for those who

do not provide one. Additionally, if the last four digits of a social security number are

provided, the county elections officials must confirm those with the Social Security

Administration.

Conflicting information can delay processing of the application, such as when the

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) indicates a different driver's license number for

the person in question, or DMV indicates a driver's license for a person when the

person has not provided one."

-- Posted by wh67 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 3:07 PM

Maybe the point is that they claim that some people can't afford some type of picture ID. We have to provide our birth certificates for heaven's sake to get our driver's license renewed.

If they can afford to get the birth certificate sent to them, they can surely afford a picture ID. Even if you are on any type of assistance, you have to provide ID and /SSN.

This is all upside down.

-- Posted by KH Gal on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 2:50 PM

According to the NCSL link, California doesn't even have a voter ID law.

What's all the hubbub? Looks like they"ll be using the drivers license to drive legally.

They don't need it to vote.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 1:42 PM

"Stands to reason"? I disagree.

There are states where Voter ID laws have been upheld.

Just because a driver has a license doesn't make them eligible to vote.

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 1:31 PM

AB2189 by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, (D) of Los Angeles, will let the Department of Motor Vehicles issue licenses to illegal immigrants eligible for work permits under a new Obama administration policy. The bill requires the department to accept as proof of legal residence whatever document the federal government provides to participants in its deferred action program.

The article doesn't specifically say that they will be allowed to vote, it stands to reason that they will. However, I don't think this is going to make much difference since it's already been decided that identification is not required to vote.

-- Posted by TundraRat on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 1:13 PM

Will the drivers licenses issued be considered "proper ID"?

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 12:21 PM

Yes, there are no trees:)

Good to hear from ya Buckshot. After the vulgar tirade last weekend---well, I was without words. Yet some can still defend.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 11:40 AM

It would stand to reason that if they have proper ID, they will vote---they do not ask for your immigration papers when you vote because that would make the system racist/targeting certain people. Certainly you do not think Obama did this for any other reason other than to win votes?

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 11:30 AM

I didn't read anything in the news link that mentioned the right to vote being extended to people who hold these types of licenses.

Will they be allowed to vote?

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 10:42 AM

Yep. Very true KH. But MsM will be on soon to talk about how Obama has not taken jobs from Americans, etc. "They" seem unable to see how all of the "freebies" are costing America everything.

Obama will be happy when there is nothing left.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 10:14 AM

It is pretty discouraging to think that we have "evolved" from a nation who had clear standards of citizenship to one of appeasement for voting rights.

We would not be allowed to vote in other countries or have the rights that illegal or dream act persons are enjoying today.

They are now trying to say that this will help the economy. I fail to see how.

I have lived in Mountain Home for over 11 years now. I love to be outdoors in wide open spaces (as long as it does not involve camping...in a tent and an out house). I dislike Government waste/abuse of tax dollars and "sky is the limit" spending by those that we elect to represent "us." I value free speech when what is stated is factual (as opposed to lies, gossip and un-truths). I love the Chicago White Sox (I never said I was perfect) and the Broncos are okay too! I am 38 years old and married to a guy who is active duty USAF (and a Cubs fan...he is the "perfect" one). I am anti-nuclear and against further desecration of our planet with waste that we can do little to nothing with. If you dislike blunt, this is not the blog for you. Enjoy!
