MHSD Levy Time---AGAIN!!Posted Friday, April 22, 2011, at 11:35 AM
IT IS "ONLY" $925,000 DOLLARS FOLKS!!!!
"The authorization being sought (in the May 17, 2011 election) would be for 'only' $925,000 a year." WOW! "ONLY" $925,000 per year. Key word being "ONLY." "The money is used primarily for maintenance of the district's buildings..." What else will this money "primarily" be used for since the MHSD's plan for these new levy funds seems, at best, a bit vague? Oh wait! According to this same article the monies raised would be used for not only roof repairs but also to purchase text books. MHSD Board Chairman Jim Alexander states "We're not asking for any more than we feel we absolutely need." Hmmmmmmmmm. District comptroller, Cliff Osborne (sic Ogborn), "stressed the need for the plant facility levy..." Here is a re-cap of what some of these key, MHSD employees make who have no control over a budget but take great pride in the fact that they are asking you, the taxpayer, for "only $925,000 per year" in additional funding: Taken from:http://www.ouridaho.com/search/?cat=payroll Mountain Home School District Administration Building Ogborn, Clifford A. Superintendent Annual $100,147.00 3/12/2010 It would seem that we could trim some fat from the MHSD District Office, save the taxpayers some money and then only ask for the money "NEEDED" to run the Mountain Home School District (MHSD). Cuts need to be made and going to the taxpayers should be a LAST RESORT---NOT THE ONLY RESORT. Has that land been sold yet that the District is holding on to? There are some very important questions that need to be responded to before you folks put your hands in the pockets of others once again. I value free speech when what is stated is factual (as opposed to lies, gossip and un-truths). I love the Chicago White Sox (I never said I was perfect) and the Broncos are okay too! I just have to respond to this blog. I know this is supposed to be all serious and that, but yesterday and today was a real hoot, especially today. When I read the blogs, all I can say is, I was ROTFLMBO. Residentpast, I can't begin to tell you how much I needed to laugh. Thanks again - I needed it.

Is it bragging to state facts? I did auditing for a period of time, I did my job, so what's your point. AH! HA! you don't have one.
cantjustwatch still picking, now I'm pompous because none of my past expereince in auditing was not in Mtn Home or in education. Well I so sorry about that, but I didn't have a lot of choices about which audit engagements I was assigned too, but I'm sure that makes no difference.
If you really felt so strongly about how bad things are run, you should run for office or support someone you could trust and help them get elected. But writing blogs about your so called informed opinion is easier. Last I've got to say, blame me, cuss me but no more responses from me as it is a waste of time.
As for the Plant Faciltiy Levy, funds are used to maintain, or improve current buildings and assets, seems to me to be not able to maintain and to let them go because of a lack of funds, just seems to be irresponsible. Pay little know or suffer down the road when they really fall apart.
Oh, know I'm to blame for all the problems of the world. Given the number of programs their are it is not possible on one person to aware of all of them. Given the time I spent I would have only audited a few of those programs (none in Education). Your attitude to blame and attack anyone who disagrees with you is boring. Also goes to show that whatever the truth may be if it doen't fit you then it is a lie and fraund has been committed.
cantjustwatch is sure a bitter person willing to blame anyone other than himself. While it is true that I have audited lots of programs, none in Mtn Home, I haven't run across any outright fraud or misappropriation of funds. But I have the feeling that doesn't matter to you. Once you have your mindset their is no changing it, so why should I even try. So go ahead blame me and anyone esle who doesn't measure up to whatever you beleive.
cantjustwatch,
If you beleive fraud, then why didn't you sue. Taxpayers do have recourse. Do you know that the WERCD members didn'r reimbuse for the phones? Did you actually request documents to show expenditures for phones, receipt for reimbursement or lack thereof.

I can hide behind by screenname as well as you hide behind yours. As for funds, funds are set up for specific purposes. Like general fund where the majority for the operations are paid from. Can't speak to wheter or not promiese were made for the supplemental levy, genreally supplemental levies are passed for the general operations, or about declining enrollments and staffing levels. Don't think you can either because enrollments, does effect how much state pays for staff. Plant Facility levies can only be spent for the maintenance needs of buildings, new buildings, equipment, or what the levy statement porposes, check Idaho Code. As for reality, let just say my experience in Auditing, Accounting, Budgeting, Taxes and consulting over the last 40 years gives me a very good insight. And some of my past work has been directly with school districts. Contary to some bloggers districts are audited annually, that is by law. And you seem to find it so easy to state that waste is going on without providing any definitive proof.
The questionnaires sent to the candidates for the school board have interesting answers. I don't like it when a candidate won't answer a question, makes me think that candidate has agendas he wants to hide, doesn't want to offend anyone and/or hurt good ole boy relations. I DO like this individual as a person, but I don't believe this individual fits my agenda of what the board should do. In fact, as for the questions he does answer, his answers are so vague that I don't know where he really stands on anything.
Now for the other candidate who turned in her answers to the quesionnaire, I would have a tendency to vote for her. I don't know her personally, so I can't say how she is on a personal level. From her answers I see that she is interested in downsizing administrations and comes right out and says the school board needs change. Ummmm. She is honest about her thoughts on unions, and teacher pay and retirement, and types of education.
Overall, I think the interview questions were very good as they did elicit true responses and showed us a little bit about how bold and true a person is as to how they feel about the school system. The quesions also showed me just how willing a candidate is to be a little uncomfortable and state what they feel needs changed or not.
It's obvious that the school board is made up of the old style of politician that feels entitled to tax dollars, constant increases, and no accountability.
To say that only property owners should vote on levys is ignorant at best. Everyone pays for the levys in one way or another. Higher prices on EVERYTHING make up the increases in property taxes.
Owners cant make up the difference? Can't they just dip into all the money they made hand over fist when the economy was booming? Oh no wait they were having to catch up after the last downturn. But wouldn't they have had reserves from the boom before that? Hmmm. Chicken or the egg, or just flawed logic.
Don't like the levys? There is this thing called V-O-T-I-N-G. It's really cool. You actually get to take part in the political process. The only catch is that the stupid politicians set it up so that a message board post doesn't count for some odd reason!?! I've done a ton of research and the conspiracy runs deep. First of all there are no TV's in the polling place, explaining why this elusive and delicate animal called "voter" is rarely seen,(less than a hundred in the last school board election). They make it so difficult to vote if you have beer or Cheetos or an anti-tank missile in your hands, go figure. Wait a minute though folks. I've researched it and not only do message board posts not count but neither does complaining, whining, protesting, unregistered voters, petitioning, rants at the local coffee clutch, anyone under 18, vandalism, crying, threats of a recall, threats in general, stomping your lil feet, pulling your hair out, or telling your mommy.
residentpast:
Seems as is you want to paint the facts to meet your own agenda.
Pardon me if I do not give much pause to people who will say anything and hide their butts behind a screen name. I never said that pay came from one fund or another. It was stated during the last levy that the district would hire no more higher level staff. The ink was not even dry on the last levy election...and they hired a VP.
Who in the heck cares which fund it comes from or which account? No matter how you slice the pie, the money is being spent and wasted. News flash smarty pants! For the last 10 years the MHSD has had declining enrollment. They continue to maintain the staffing of a school that has WAY less students. Do the math and then tell me again how wrong I am. Oh wait. A person has to have sense and some grasp of reality to be able to sort through bull and facts. Our MHSD Board is made up of liars. Proof is in the facts and public meetings.
The question is will we be smart enough to elect new people? That truly is the multi-million dollar question. Any bets?
Oh, excuse me landlords won't recover taxes in a new lease, or even if they move the next place rented most likely will reflect the increased taxes. Owners may suffer a little cash flow, but they will make it up, unless they are that generous or need a tax break.
Another observation. Should property owners only be allowed to vote, I guess renters don't pay property taxes and those taxes are not included in their rent. Oh well.
Seems like old times, people complaining about things and don't check facts. All the salaires listed do no come out of the plant facility funds but out of the general fund. Seems as if the writer is misuing information to purposely incite people.
OM,
Yes...oh wait a minute, No...darn it, what was the question again?
From JYD's response, which could have been a simple yes or no response, we can gather he was one of those who ended up in Canada awaiting the end of the draft so he could come back home. JYD, it is people such as yourself that have put this country where it is today. You are nothing more than a patsy/yes man. Congrats, you have all of the qualifications to be a member of the MHSD's CURRENT Board. May God help us if these elections do not provide change and choice.
Eagle Eye,
What's your point...I'm not planning on submitting a resume' to satisfy curiosities.
JYD: when was the last time your wore a military uniform and was stationed in a combat zone or support of those on the front line being shot at and returning fire?
I hope I get more than one vote seeing how I own more than one property....The gaul of this school board is unreal.
You know this is not about your political, party this is about your pocket book,I think we should keep that in mind.........just a thought.
Personally I dont like people who try to put there hand in mine or anyone elses for that matter.
THANKYOU for the BILL OF RIGHTS
When our government was being designed, the 1st Democrat, Thomas Jefferson; you may remember him as the slave holding-all men are created equal guy, proposed that only property owners should be entitled to vote for anything in the new republic. Dang it if the Bill of Rights didn't interfere with his vision.
Your right about the Lottery suppose to give a big chunk of the pie to school districts but I can't see where that really happened. Here a couple of sites with some limited information.

I agree on property owners doing the voting but that is just not going to happen with the system we use to vote.
You got it so right Mr427539.
Anybody who votes YES to this needs to go back to school (out of Mtn. Home of course) and get an education. I agree with bazookaman, ONLY PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE DISTRICT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR THIS.
I see more and more people are waking up to what the School District has been doing and what they are up to now.
Let me refresh some over the last two bond elections to convert the Junior High to the High school. First go around they missed by a few votes so they tryed again and they just knew they had it in the bag to pass which it didn't. Second go around the raised the bond from 34 million to 37.5 million and they did such a nice job of briefing the public to what they needed to have. It failed again what they didn't say from the first to the second bond they at added the price tag to fix the High School gym roof, so it failed no roof fix. Well low and behold they had let the contract in Feb with the following May vote to fix the roof. Where all of a sudden did the money come from when the bond failed. When you deal with people that can't tell the truth about anything why believe them now. While I am at check all the new vehicle those so called maintenance people are driving around now which I guess is just site seeing the local area, doesn't seem to be much maintenance happening.
Quit holding out your hand for more money, the tree died, like the old saying wish in one hand and you know what to do in the other and clap them together and see what you get.
Enough is enough people quit holding out those hands like all of us are rich and get back to the reason there are schools and that is to TEACH not see who much you can rip off the Public.
One more thing when they closed the schools at the Base how many teachers got a pink slip? Sure looks like nobody less kids to teach but keep the same amount of staff on the payroll. More need to wake up we are being taken for a ride that we won't like the outcome. You people that want to vote YES on this upcoming levy get in your pockets and give it all, my pockets are empty and I will Vote NO, NO, on anything this district wants as a hand out.
I said what i had to say on ther other blog.I KNEW IT WAS COMMING AND i will not be fooled this time.........MR ALEXANDER YOU HAVE NERVE ill give you that......My COMMENTS TO MR CORDER ARE EXTENDED TO YOU THERE IS NOT MUCH ELSE I CAN SAY.I WILL LOOK INTO WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT NOT PAYING IT........AND IF THIS IS THE WAY IT IS GOING TO GO WE NEED TO STOP THE LOTTERY.........YES STOP THE LOTTERY......IT IS NOT DOING WHAT WERE TOLD IT WOULD DO SO STOP IT.
WE DONT HAVE ANYMORE TO GIVE YOU, that money on top of the levy that was approved. That you scoundered the money and now want more. get it from the vice principal you hired.while im at it what is a prevention specialist???????????? those support personell, that is a lot of clerks, and technology assistant??????????? dial me in on that one.IT SOUNDS LIKE AND EMPIRE HAS BEEN RAISED AND NOW WE ARE TRYING TO FEED IT. WE ARE OUT OF HAY........GOT TO GO THIS IS TO MUCH
Don't forget this

Look back at all the good years for money to the School District from the Feds, State, Local, Forest service on lumber cut, and all the money they use to get from the Base cause of the kids here with military familes, but the amount of kids went down hill, less money from the State, Feds, lost of timber sales but keep right on spending like there is no end but want more money to keep up with the so called good old days when nobody was watching how the money was being spend. You have a President on the School board that has been there since I believe 1988 looks like a time for a change. When people are in those kind of postions they get stale and caught up in business as usual, NO problem we need more money to keep the way of doing business that same as always. If they want more here comes the levies and bonds. Someplace along the time some belts have to be tightened same as the public has to do. I sure hope this is not the way math is being taught in school. I tried of hearing this poor story the poor kids won't get an education if we don't cough up some more money. If thats the case somebody needs to look at what all the Admin and teachers are doing. Why do we even need more than one Vice Princple at a school like was is going on now. They got that many problems it takes 3 people to run the school gimmie me a break. Wolf has been called way to many times and the public has figured it out same as with the Feds spending, spending, and want more.
