More On The Mountain Home School District And Their Levy And Government Money

An Apple A Day May Keep The Truth At Bay
MHSD Gets $684,000.00!!!

Directly from the MHN story of September 1, 2010:

"My first thought, when I heard we were going to get this money," said Supt. McMurtrey, "was to use it to lower the levy."

"Unfortunately, there are a LOT of strings and we're not going to be able to do that," McMurtrey said.

"the thick set of regulations that accompany the newly released federal money indicate the funds cannot be used to supplant existing programs, to create new programs or to restore old programs that had been cut. So many of the line items that were cut this spring can't be funded by the new money. It can be used, however, to restore some of the teacher salary cuts, both directly or by restoring some or all of the "furlough days," and to restore some of the staff positions, such as aides..."

"We haven't decided exactly how we're going to use the money...but my best guess is we'll use it to restore at least the four student-contact days, maybe hire back and aide or two, and use the rest to restore some of the teachers salaries we had to cut. It won't cover everything they lost, but it will take some of the sting out of it."

"I wish we'd known we were going to get this money this spring. We could have kept some of the things we had to cut," McMurtrey said...

Among other things, accepting the money meant the state agreed to RESTORE (my emphasis added)educational funding to AT LEAST (my emphasis added) the levels it had funded in the previous fiscal year. That means the legislature will HAVE TO (my emphasis added) restore the $76 million it cut, which, barring a major turnaround in the economy in the next few months, will mean the money will have to come from other state programs."

.......

"At the very least," McMurtrey said, "if the legislature does restore the money, and I'm not betting on that until they actually do it, we probably won't have to SEEK AS MUCH OF THE LEVY AS THE VOTERS AUTHORIZED (my emphasis added)."

So Mr. McMurtrey---you PROMISED the voters to lower the levy or ELIMINATE the levy if other funding was obtained. Funding will HAVE TO be restored because the State of Idaho agreed to take these funds, according to the MHN article. Unless the State of Idaho plans to defraud the Federal Government, it looks like YOU and the MHSD will get all funding back which, according to YOUR PROMISES means no levy for year two! However, it is clear by this comment,

"At the very least," McMurtrey said, "if the legislature does restore the money, and I'm not betting on that until they actually do it, we probably won't have to SEEK AS MUCH OF THE LEVY AS THE VOTERS AUTHORIZED (my emphasis added)."

that you intend to take every dime from the taxpayers of Elmore County. BIG SURPRISE THERE!! And you have the nerve to complain that you "cannot buy textbooks." Well, the reason you cannot buy textbooks is because your priorities are a bit skewed.

More LIES and BULL from the MHSD. And you wonder why the voters do not want to vote for these things. This is the perfect example of ROOKING the taxpayers MHSD style. Congratulations!! Mr. McMurtrey, you should be ashamed but to feel shame you need integrity. You have no integrity and neither does the MHSD Board. Birds of a feather...

Nothing is so firmly believed as that of which you know the least. I suggest you think before you feel Missy. Calling people liars doesn't make you any more credible. If the best you can do is splash your urine and vinegar over everything you disagree with, then even people who may support your opinion will seperate themselves from your toxic personality.

I don't have a stake in the fight you're trying to start; but, I think I may now have a better understanding of why dogs bite people. You don't play by the rules of a civilized society...you just go around peeing on fences.

You are right JYD. I did not attend the meetings where the promises were made. I did not attend the MHSD Board Meeting on the subject either. I was also not there when McMurtrey and the MHSD Board proclaimed that no further upper management positions would be hired for (like P. and VP for an example). Funny...they did that too! You are right, I know the least. Must go...I have fences and tires to mark. Toxic personality? Really. I am sure now, you are an idiot. Hold your elected officials to the same standards and we will see who urinates where and when and dares to tell the truth about it.

So, the Boston Tea Party folks urinated on fences.

Those who signed the D of I urinated on fences.

Lincoln urinated on fences.

MLK urinated on fences.

Benjamin Franklin urinated on fences.

Amelia Earhart urinated on fences.

The 19th Amendment really caused some defacation!

Hmmmmm. All this American gal asks for is a little honesty. I cannot help that you probably voted for the levy and now feel duped. I gave you his words---those tell the wild tale. Now are his promises and false words my fault? Me thinks not. That pile of dung on the sidewalk is just what it is----but call it a ginger snap if it makes you feel better. I am not here to make friends. I do not care what you or anyone else thinks of me. At the end of the day, I can sleep just fine. Animals like me---people can be harder to please.

One person can make a difference. At the end of the day that "ginger snap" on the bottom of your shoe still stinks. I can live with myself. Can you?

So good that the school dist. got those extra dollars. Now they can give more to education, jobs, etc. Go ahead and keep what you'll get from the levy...the students and schools need it.

Take it next year too. The teachers don't get near what they should have in pay and the programs need a lot of funding.

Keep it and use it well.

I am not an idiot ma'am...and you do not know what you are talking about.

I gotta pee now! Oh by the way, great article Missy!

Opinion Missy, your hubby needs to get orders. You're flat out irritating. At least Bazookaman, even though he agrees with you, acts like an adult and is professional, sticks to the topic at hand and makes mature arguments. Your "combacks" to Junkyard Dog's post make you seem infantile and ridiculously immature. You are highly toxic, and you're infecting this town. Go away!

Lil Mom:

So, do not read. What I posted was/is the truth. You too seem "infantile," uneducated, "ignorant" and "toxic." It is people just like you who have put this country where it is. You would fall for anything.

You go away or at least do not read.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Sun, Sep 19, 2010, at 7:42 AM

I wouldn't read your crap except that you've got it pasted all over the place on this website. I care barely read a story without coming across a comment by you.

Lol, do you really think your meanness hurt my feelings? I could care less what you say to me (actually really enjoyed laughing at your antics), but it seems like I hit a nerve with you. Who is it that pees in your cheerios every morning anyway? What makes you so miserable? Are you just lonely? That must be it. You seem to have nothing better to do than to try to insult everyone who disagrees with you, but really all you do is just make a real fool of yourself.

Thank you.

I think we all need to stay on the topic. What is the school district going to do with money they recieved. Right now collecting intrest and being hush hush

-- Posted by jasmine on Sat, Oct 2, 2010, at 5:00 PM

From the articles in this paper---they plan to give the teachers some of the pay back that was cut and hire a few people (back?) that were let go during the cuts.

If you search Mountain Home School District on this web site you can read all about what Mr. McMurtrey said would be done with the money.

What is really done may be another story.

OM- there are a lot of watchdogs- including the teachers- making sure that the money the state is restoring does go to rehiring and restoring part of the pay cuts. We'll see this money in action if I graduate on a day besides May 22.

Lilmiss, I hope you are right. The MHSD does not have the best history which makes folks question what they say---human nature.

You are a smart young lady. I hope that you are correct. If not, we both stand to be disappointed and I will of course write about it. Enjoy your senior year. I hope that it is all you hope it will be.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Sun, Oct 3, 2010, at 10:42 AM

I think that the MHSD should scale back personally. Enrollment has been down for years. It would stand to reason with enrollment down that the MHSD could do with less (less admin., less teachers, ec.). At some point, they will need to scale back.

Spending more is not the answer. In college, you can have classes with over 100 people in them. Other classes have less. The point being that you can still learn. Parents need to be more involved and take ownership in their children's education. Students. School is what you make of it. If you want to learn, you will learn. If not, you do not.

It makes me sick to read what McMurtrey said in the paper. There was nothing about purchasing books, more computers or things needed for teaching. But hey, the teachers will get some of their pay back! Not much comfort for those of us out here who have also had paycuts but get hit with more taxes. We do not have a levy to pass to cover our losses. Teachers go into teaching knowing the pay. IMHO, $58,000 is pretty good money plus summers off.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Sun, Oct 3, 2010, at 10:52 AM

Unfortunately, the money the state is giving us is specifically only to be used for restoring salaries. And yes, I'd love to be making $58,000, it's not a bad salary in the least, but many teachers are nearing their retiring years, and starting salary is somewhere around $32,000.

And MHSD can't scale back on teachers. Even core classes are stuffed- my sister has over thirty students in her freshman English class.

Thank you for you kind words, and you can bet your boots if the district DOES screw this up, I will be all over it too.

Lilmiss:

I bet you will be all over it! Good for you. Accountability is key.

I have lived in Mountain Home for over 11 years now. I love to be outdoors in wide open spaces (as long as it does not involve camping...in a tent and an out house). I dislike Government waste/abuse of tax dollars and "sky is the limit" spending by those that we elect to represent "us." I value free speech when what is stated is factual (as opposed to lies, gossip and un-truths). I love the Chicago White Sox (I never said I was perfect) and the Broncos are okay too! I am 38 years old and married to a guy who is active duty USAF (and a Cubs fan...he is the "perfect" one). I am anti-nuclear and against further desecration of our planet with waste that we can do little to nothing with. If you dislike blunt, this is not the blog for you. Enjoy!
