This is my last year in high school debate, and I think the topic is one that some of you may enjoy discussing with me. Since it is summer, I haven't done any research on it yet, but with the school year approaching, I figure I should start. But while I do my research and prepare cases for and against these countries, I wanted to get the opinions of those involved in the military (or those who just have a strong opinion of the military (: ) So what are your thoughts for/against this topic:

Sunshine, if you are going to be a part of the policy topic, be a good idea to know what country just had the troop pull out , so you were wrong, it was Iraq, now its a point that the 50,000 left in Iraq are more in harms way than before.

Wow is this our policy topic? I'm going to fail in policy, I know it. I'm relying on Allie...well...I think they're already significantly reducing it. I heard yesterday that we only have about 50,000 left in Afghanistan (I believe that's what it said, I could be wrong about the country). Troops that is. Still a slightly hefty number, but relative to the size of the areas covered, pretty small. We've seen no direct harms to the states from this small number in recent times, so I say, go for it. Let's get them out of there.
Removing troops from around the world will destabilize the security in many areas; including the good old USA. Our mere presence in South Korea, is essentially like straing the barking dog in the face and not backing away. Having troops distributed throughout the world is key to a rapid response to developing situations. It is one of the reasons that it is a key part of our national security objectives.
I do not believe in the UN, but Isolationism does not work. Look at every time it has been practiced in society... If we can't learn from history we are bound to repeat it. I beleive being proactive in the fight against the enemies of our country is better than being reactive. Look at WWII, It took us a couple years to unleash the industrial might of the American Society, but once we started to out produce the AXIS is when the war started to turn.
