  • I suppose I'm as prepared as a 16 year old will ever be to defend my (oh my!) slightly liberal opinions and observations.

  • Obama's Words

One of the great strengths of the United States," the President said, "is ... we have a very large Christian population -- we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."

  • Wow What a morning I was writing a long response to bazookaman wrapping it up when my computer shut down so here I am again making an attempt to rewrite it.

Yes bazookaman I lived in the 50's remember practicing to hide under my desk at school in case we got a bomb dropped on us. I remember every Friday my Mom giving me a dime so I could buy a stamp to put in my savings bond book. etc etc. I remember when JFK was President and the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Bay Of Pigs. Many people lived in fear and they were against JFK for getting us to that place. They also believed JFK plotted to kill Fidel Castro

I have seen many changes to our Country since that time. The time when it was safe for children to play outside, to walk to school and play outside after dark.

I can remember when the war was over in Viet Nam and our troops came home to people spitting on them calling them all kinds of names because they were serving our country a country when most people were against the war. I remember the protests well. I remember I wanted to be one of those Protesters, but couldn't because my husband was serving his country in the Air Force and I was not allowed to protest

There are many things I don't like now, for one our Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner he should not be in that position. I don't like that our space program is getting shut down, etc etc

However the way our country has been changing cannot all be blamed on Obama.

What I don't like is the people on Tv like Glen Beck, Rush L and several others for and against who spew hate and violence all for theTV Ratings and lining their pockets with money and while doing so there are the people who believe everything they hear.

I don't like when there are untruths thrown out there. I want to know the truth not made up lies or words spoken taken out of context.

Back when FDR was trying to push Social Security Through he was called a Nazi that he was pushing it to fast, he was leading our country to Socialism, they said it was unconstitutional.

After Social Security went through a law suit was filed to stop it however it passed any ways.

It is as if history is repeating itself.

Another thing you know as well as I do ALL politician's promise you the moon but in reality they really can't keep those promises, they can not pass laws or make decisions without congress.

I have not approved of the way our Country has been changing, every day we see more of our freedoms taken away even if they are for our protection.

Obama came into office when every thing was looking pretty grim. He said there would be changes and it was not going to be easy and it would take time to get things running on a smoother path.

Day one the Republicans started their campaign to out him from office by throwing lies out there, knit picked every time he moved or coughed.

Yesterday the news reported our economy is starting to go upward for the better but we are by no means out of it, the job numbers are still high but at least its a start some where.

Whew ! that's all I am writing for now, I got to get busy here and get some work done. :)

  • bazookaman you mentioned Obama being on Jay Leno's show and he asked him about not wearing the flag pin

Well here is what he actually said. It happened before he was on Jay's show it was while he was campaigning

  • "What would Jesus do if he was infested with fleas, ticks, intestinal worms or other Divinely inspired parasites? Would Jesus protect himself from blood sucking mosquitos? Are you suggesting that denying disease spreading microbes a place to procreate in your blood is a moral issue?"

Are you saying that legal immigrants are comparable to fleas ticks intestinal worms or other parasites?

I'm not saying I think illegal immigrants are good for this country. But those that genuinely want to come here should not have to go through such a hassle. You are so scared by the media into thinking everyone with an Arab accent is a terrorist. Guess what? I met a very nice Arab man a couple months ago. People like you make it difficult for these immigrants who came here for a better life to gain that life.

I'm saying that if a man or woman is willing to go through a process (that currently is too difficult) to become an American citizen, then as HUMANS and some of us as CHRISTIANS should be willing to help a fellow human being if right off the bat they can not help themselves.

I'm severely disappointed in Americans and their attitudes towards helping each other. Free enterprise is failing our economy because we have to be willing to help out.

I'm also disappointed in the way Americans, who, once upon a time, were willing to stand up for what they believed in, and would not believe a word unless it was completely proven correct, now believe any little thing if it is typed.

And don't go crazy now, I'm referring to all parties.

  • Just a couple of things

jtrotter - Jesus didn't teach a man to fish, he fed him.

msmarylin - Thank you for the COMPLETE quote and link.

My brother and sister-in-law have worked their whole lives (50 years old, middle-class) and they have decided to sell their home because they have seen several family members lose everything they worked for all their lives because their loved one died, not quickly or easily but messy and drawn out. They figure the same will eventually happen to them so why try and have your own home when you will lose it to medical bills eventually anyway. Is this the American Dream?

I grew up during the 60's right here in this valley. I was molested as a child. Nothing was ever done because no one talked about that sort of thing then, it wasn't on the news it was hidden and was a shameful thing.

I don't think any politician is right about everything or wrong about everything. But the Republicans have lost my vote for the forseeable future because I believe they got us into Iraq on false pretenses and into this recession.

Let's redistribute the money a bit I think I can take care of it better than the guys making a hundred thousand/million/billion a year. If a million like me have the money to buy a washing machine that's a million washing machines, if the ten thousand that currently have the money buy a washing machine that's ten thousand washing machines unless, of course, they buy one for all 3 of their homes than that is thirty thousand washing machines. I know, I know a silly example but it's how I feel today.

    Thanks

  • julyGirl,

I never said Jesus said that. WWJD means what whould Jesus DO. If memory serves me, Jesus was all about helping those who would help themselves. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life is a Chinese proverb that provides a fine example of helping someone to help themself. Sorry you were confused.

    WWJD?

    I dunno.

    Was "J" a capitalist or a socialist?

Those who followed him back in His day may have been wrestling with that question as they witnessed their Father's Son's crucifixion.
