Posted Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 7:52 PM

As I sit here and think about the tragedy that unfolded 10 years age, I am amazed at how the wounds are still so fresh. I see the pictures and the countless documentaries, on 9/11, and I get the same feeling of dread and sadness, as I did the day it happened.

I was sitting on the couch, with my then 13 month old running around, watching in horror and disbelief, at what I knew surely had to be someone's sick joke. I was pregnant with my 2nd child, and wondering what in the world I was doing bringing another child into a world where that could happen. I sat glued to the TV, as did most American's, and quite possibly the world, as the horror just kept getting worse. Those images are forever etched in my heart, and mind. I didn't know how we all could recover.

Then, the next day, as I ventured out, the absolute amazingness, of this AWESOME country we are fortunate to live in started showing through. Flags, and signs were popping up everywhere. You could walk up to a total stranger, and give them a hug, and guess what, they'd hug you back. People were stading in line for hours on end to give blood, clothes, money to help those affected. Because we were them, and they were us. There were no colors, or races, or religions. There were AMERICANS!

Alot of people say that there is alot wrong with this country, but I say look back at what and who we were 10 years ago, and thats who we trully are. We are ONE Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for ALL. Along with heart and strength and the resilency to bounce back, remember, and move on better than we were before. And I for one am PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!

I am/was a firefighter...structural then wildland. And as I say why be structured when you can go wild! I am married to an almost retired Air Force man, and we have 2 daughters. We lived on the base for 4 1/2 years but now we live in town. I love this place, and we are probably going to retire here. Woo Hoo! I like to consider myself smart, and savvy on the way things are, but like all of us...I have my moments. I work full time, and then I go to my job. As you can tell I have a different type of sense of humor, but most like it. In a nutshell, I am me and there is no defining me. I tell it like it is, and try, really try, to be tactful, but there is a time and place for everything and if you need it I will put you in your place.
