Let's Make Some Changes America!Posted Monday, November 2, 2009, at 12:02 PM
Our economy is in troubled times. People are losing their jobs and looking to the government to bail them out. The government is scrambling to try and fix the problem but has that "Deer in a Headlight Look" and overcompensates with high dollar spending. This irresponsible behavior has forced our citizens to form groups and have "Tea Parties" to protest. Our country is caught up in a turmoil that I have yet to see in my lifetime. Everything seems uncertain and nobody knows what to do. Our country has seen difficulties like this before. We have been faced with wars and dealt with the "Great Depression". We as citizens of this great nation have handled adversity and ridden out the waves of ups and downs. I feel as if this too will pass if we can come together and restore order. John F. Kennedy said it best when he stated, "And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
Through all these hardships our nation has faced over the years one thing has remained constant. The great game of baseball has always been there to remind us of our childhood. The boys of summer rekindle all that is right with the world even though we live among many wrongs. James Earl Jones, actor in Field of Dreams gave us this insight in the movie, "The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and what could be again." The start of the season marks the beginning of spring and gives us hope of something new to come. Our nation needs this hope and this reminder that things will be restored to their proper order. It is time for our country to step to the plate. We as individuals need to do our efforts to restore order in our communities. We need to return to that consistency of things that are right, things that are good, and things that stand for something. We need to stop taking sides and arguing about pointless facts. We need to stop pointing fingers and making semi accurate accusations. We need to quit yakking and start acting. It is time to come together and do our part. We can't wait for our government to fix things because it won't happen. We need to regain that constancy. It is time to live our lives how we are supposed to, not how we want to. Our country is in trouble only somewhat because of our leaders, a lot more because of our irresponsibility as citizens. We caused the problems and so now it is time for us to fix them. It seems as if we have changed from a nation that works hard to a nation that hardly works. Let's quit asking for handouts and start using our own two hands. My fellow Americans now is the time to make a change or I fear our nation will sink to a level that will not be worth saving. It's time to step up and make something happen. We are at the point where we as Americans can choose to make history or be history. For our sake and for the sake of our future generations I hope we all choose to make it.
