  • As always beautiful pictures Jessie.

Maybe ask the news first before posting pictures of the calfs being born? They don't offend me and I think as long as you put in the title "graphic Pics" it should be ok

  • Jessie,

Here is my 2 cents. I tend to lean on the side of caution with this type of material. For the vast majority of people, this type of photos either would not be offensive or they would heed the warning and not look. Then there is the vocal minority, the tree huggers who would scream long and loud about animal cruelty and/or the kids who are forced to look. (I am not saying that this will happen, just that it could.)

If you are willing to subject yourself to the comments of the vocal minority, then I say show the pics of Mother Nature at work. Part of life is death, the survival of the fittest.

Jtrotter, you hit the nail on the head. Though the pics would only be of still births that we had nothing to do with. (Were not there to assist or maybe the death would not have happened, or were there, but "Mother Nature" chose to twist that animal with deformity) Either way, it IS Mother Nature at work.

My thought was that the other day I showed assistance that kept life alive...and we did that this weekend too. We happened upon a calf that had literally "Just hit the ground" (actually saw it from a distance and saw his legs flailing somewhat unusually and galloped over) The "sack" was around his face/nose/mouth and he was suffucating, we simply got off our horses & jerked the sack back while Mama was getting up, hung him upside down & tickled his nostrils with weeds, which made him cough and clear his lungs. I actually thought for a few seconds we had been seconds too late..... but when we left, he was up and nursing his Mom. I've seen lots of this, but I am tense inside waiting to know each time. I know it's Mother Nature, but I want them all to live!

I just thought that maybe I could simply show the loss of life, and a bit more of the struggle that we do go thru in those cases. I don't want to portray 100% success rate. Out of 1700 we have only lost 3 so far.

I think you are right, I will keep those pics to myself.... I don't much care about all the negative banter (As some have seen I've had some on my own blogs that didn't affect me one way or another) But I don't want to offend anyone deliberately.

  • I would post em! Put the warning out there like you did on the last one. It is life. We spend a lot of time "protecting" the young ones from real life stuff. IMHO, it is why some get into the trouble they do. Some do not get to see things like this (the city slickers). I think it is pretty neat stuff and should be shared.

People need to be accountable for what they choose to look at. They have the choice. Take the heat. It is real life and death.
