Horses, Boots & Vows

Posted Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 11:24 PM

Zach Zumstein did the auctioneering for our auctions while we were there.

He also did the 'announcing' that our wedding was about to start.

Wedding Day 3 315

Have you heard of Buck Brannaman?  If you haven't, I'm sure  you've heard of the movie/book "The Horse Whisperer" ?  Buck is who the "Horse Whisperer" is modeled after.  And in the last year,

"Buck, The Movie" came out.  It is a documentary on Buck Brannaman from childhood to now.  In fact, many/most of you HAVE seen him, many many years ago (now that I think of it, and I challenge you to figure out where/how)  He was mentored many years by Mountain Home's own Ray Hunt.  Anyway, I am honored that he officiated my wedding.

Wedding Day 3 317

Frank Lamb gave me away, and we are waiting for Ceremony to start

Wedding Day 3 305

I did mention that this wedding was in the main arena, in front of hundreds, right?  Well, yep, it was.... can you say "Dry throat"?

Below are a lot of people that we care deeply about.

From left to right

horseback is Wade Black, Frank Lamb, Buck Brannaman, Carolyn Hunt, Trina Campbell,

Wedding Day 3 313

Jaton Lord, Wayne's Best Man

Wedding Day 3 320

ah, Yes, There are the Women who stood with me.  Sharon and Carolyn.  Thank goodness for them!

Wedding Day 3 323

Here comes the bride, with Frank Lamb, and horseback is Reata Brannaman, swingin' her rope encouragingly

Wedding Day 3 326

Wayne & Jaton have realized they are in the wrong spots, so doing a dance to have me marry the right man!

I LOVE that I got to wear a wedding dress with some of my favorite boots.  And I even had white ones for the occasion!

Wedding Day 3 335

Frank hands me off to Wayne, and Buck takes his place as minister.

Wedding Day 3 340

Seriously, this is so cool.  Buck officiates our wedding in a pair of leggings that we was wearing moments before horseback.

I am wearing a bracelet that Jaton made for me a couple years ago, while he was bed ridden after breaking his neck in a horse crash.  I also have hidden on myself, a gift that Sharon will eventually give to her grand daughter.  And my own momento of the sister that I lost.  (who I'm sure was with me) The necklace I'm wearing is a first gift from Wayne a couple years ago.  Everything has it's place.

This is a "One of a Kind" Wedding

Wedding Day 3 342

Suddenly, Carolyn shoves a microphone in my hand.  I was NOT anticipating that.  I don't choke up over much, and to my surprise, I had to start over and mentally shake myself.  I'll let you guess if Wayne choked up or not.

Carolyn's voice came to me from a fog  "That's enough!"

In my Father's 'stead, Frank Lamb gave Wayne a 'talkin' to' about "You better take care of her"  He will get another one too!

Wedding Day 3 387

If you don't have a friend like this, you are missing out.  Sharon and Jim didn't really have the time for this, but they came anyway.  This was Sunday about 4-5, and Jim had to work the next morning.  It's a 10:00 drive from Vegas to Mountain Home.  They left around 7-8.  You do the math.  These are friends forever.

Wedding Day 3 392

Good friends

Wedding Day 3 407

Rather than 'walking off into the Sunset" We go walking down a tunnel!

With Sharon is my friend Charlene, who I met in Fort Worth, Texas 3 years ago.  I love making friends around the states!

Wedding Day 3 418

We are upstairs now, back having normal fun.  I just decided to keep my dress on.  The lady in the vest is Betty Staley.  This is the first trip that I've met her, and I am soooooo lucky and happy that I did.  She does dressage riding at it's finest.  I've seen good, and I've seen better.  Only on television have I seen as wonderful as she is.  And she is such a warm and friendly person.  I plan to see more of her, without question.  If you are interested in dressage at all, or art in many forms, check out

You won't be sorry

Wedding Day 3 676

I've learned to never meet a stranger.  A non stranger came up to me and said, "You two HAVE to have a cake!"  This new friend brought us a cake!

Wedding Day 3 680Wedding Day 3 682

These photos were taken by Jim Kilburn.... thank you so much for coming, and for helping in so many ways.

Is it terribly vain to have a blog about myself?  Well, yes, I suppose so, but I'm so excited to have had this weekend.... a true plethora of adventures and experiences!

We mostly stayed in the facility where we were.

South Point Hotel/Equestrian Even Center

but we did go "Walk the strip" a bit.  Fun, but don't need to really do that much again.  but who knows.... another time!

What a nice wedding. I met the "Horse Whisperer" a few years ago. He came to KC for a clinic and my son and I had volunteered as helpers.

We had been involved in handicapped children learning to ride.

It was very interesting.

Anyway, I love your dress and boots. Wayne cleans up pretty nice too.

Awesome Bonnie. We think he's pretty cool ourselves.

Thanks....I was happy with my dress. I'd had it for awhile, waiting to see when I was going to wear it. And yes, Wayne is so handsome, he takes my breath away!

I have never met two people that belonged together as much as you and Wayne. I am honored and lucky to count both of you as my friends. Congradulations to two of the finest people I know.

Kelley

He is an amazing man. Amazing horseman. But really, every time I watch the documentary, I think, if only everyone would take these practices, and raise their children like this! I've always said, that I raised my children much the same as I trained my horses. I always have had gentle and respectful horses, and I am so proud of my children for the adults they are. I wish it was mandatory for every teacher and school administrator to watch the film more than once. I can NOT stress how serious I am!

Jessie and Wayne train horses the same way that Buck does. I know it works not only for my own horse but for me as well. I have been riding for years but the way I am being re-taught by both of them is just amazing.

Well, thank you Kelley, but I only wish I trained something like Buck, and his mentor Ray Hunt. It's a goal anyway

Looks like you had a very nice wedding. You look very lovely in your dress and boots and your hair was gorgeous... Wayne didn't look to shabby either. lol! He looked very handsome in his attire.

I have never heard of Buck guess I will have to look for a book of his.

Congrats and Best Wishes for the two of you. May you be blessed with a wonderful life together for many years to come.

Marylin, his book is called "the Faraway Horse" ... but the DVD is at Walmart, and it's different from the book. Also, if you have netflix, you can get it there. Neither is expensive.... he isn't in it for money.

I will look for it on netflix Thanks

I want to add to this blog, that almost all of the people in these photos, and thus very key to the event "A Legacy of Legends" are locals. If not Mountain Home, then Idaho. The only ones not from Idaho, are Buck himself and his daughter Reata. They are living in Sheridan, Wyoming. Oh, and also, Betty Staley, is not from Idaho.

But both Buck and Betty will be the FIRST to tell you, they wouldn't be a fraction of what they are, without having had Ray Hunt in their life. And they are serious about it. Buck talks about this in his documentary, and it's Betty who narrates most of that documentary. Ray learned from Bill and Tom Dorrance. And Ray says he never learned a fraction of what he knew Tom knew. And Buck will say the same, and the same about Ray. Wayne spent years learning with Ray, and he says the same. I know without doubt that I don't know a tenth of a fraction of what any of them know. Can you imagine the magnitude of the change those men made for horses and people's lives? Not just the equestrian part, but in the life of a person. To really do what these guys do, you have to reach deep inside yourself, to find something that you've never used before. I could go on forever! Ray Hunt is probably the most famous Horseman in the World still, though he died 3 years ago.

These events that we put on are for his most devoted students to come and pay their tribute to him, and to try to keep the Legend of Tom, Bill, and Ray going on. It's a site to behold, to see the folks in the bleachers spell bound.... and hear the whispers of excitement. These folks come from all over the world, literally. I've got close friends now from Australia, England, Dubai and most states around the country. There is a scholarship program intact now, so that more can continue to learn, though the Legends are gone.

I am/was/will be always in awe that I get to be a part of such a thing.

I urge you all ALL OF YOU! At least watch the documentary, and see if it somehow makes something in your head click, and equates in some way in your life. I will sit with you, if you say not, and watch it again, and be in disbelief, if you don't believe it. I believe it that much!

And also Thanks Marylin.... yep, Wayne is one handsome man

I had my hair done at a salon there in the hotel. The girl was wonderful, and after a couple hours of pampering and a couple stout drinks, I actually could have just slept! But I had the courage to go out and say my vows! Yay!

Thanks again Mikey!

I am interested in this Community, County, and the beautiful state of Idaho. Most of my photos will be in Idaho, but from time to time, they will be my vacations aay from Idaho. You'll see lots of my Children and Grand children, along with others in my family. Of course there will be horses and horse related things, and things I photo'd horseback.
