BLOGGINGPosted Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at 3:19 PM
Is blogging educational ? I would say no. I think its away to release stress. There are blogs every where you look on the internet. Rules are set however they usually aren't followed. The person in charge of the blogs (Brenda on here)has to babysit the bloggers to make sure the heated discussion doesn't get to far out of bounds or if vulgarity has reared its ugly head.
What is vulgar? Some words could be more offensive to a person then what you might think is vulgar.
Vulgar definition: Offensive to good taste, unrefined, coarseness.
Example : Most 4 letter bad language words are offensive to some, and to others they aren't because they use them in their every day language.
I choose not to use those type words, but I do find other words offensive, they irritate me just as much as those 4 letter words that offend others. There are some "4 letter words" that are considered not offensive, words like moron, idiot, queer, and some words put in a sentence to discredit a person are just as offensive. When saying nasty things about someone, you don't have to come up with cuss words to get your audience, you can use those acceptable words like moron, Idiot, etc.
Wayne who comes on here under many different screen names who continually gets kicked off time and time again. He comes off with vulgar language when he gets his buttons pushed. It's hard to keep him away because now it has become a game to him. I don't think its so much that he loves this site as much as he likes the challenge to get kicked off. You have to remember this is a guy who spend 15 years in prison who had his guard up all the time. I know it couldn't of been easy living in prison. I'm not making excuses for him, he deserved to be there, he earned his place there. What I'm trying to say is he has picked up some very unwelcoming ways to defend off his attackers.
I met him and his wife Betsy and their two young boys last summer and that's the only time I have seen him face to face. He has a very nice wife and I could tell he was a caring father. I am happy he has found a place in life, now he just needs to know when not to take things so personal that he looses control.
Comments are thought to be an added value to a newspaper's site--providing another reason to read. You come for the article, and stay for the interesting discussion. The only problem is, there is most the time an interesting story, however no interesting discussion. Almost never. It turns into attacks on both sides and usually ends up off topic.
I have an idea and its only my idea to try and keep bloggers on a positive track. When registering to comment on the blogs we use our first and last names. The ones that have already been registered and have a screen name they could change their screen name to their real name. I think that will slow down the nasty vulgar comments.
No one wants their family's to see how badly they can behave on a public forum, or see you being attacked because you don't agree and the comment left isn't what you want to hear.

I must agree. So far I've had 2 posts deleted, one for what I thought was a very common term, and one for that very warm place no one wants to go to. Early on I was very offended by a comment and made a not so nice comment of my own. He and I have now agreed to disagree and not attack based on who made the comment.
Putting ones self out in the public's view tends to cool off some comments.
The reason I am logged in as KH Gal is because I started commenting long before I wrote a blog. st Everyone knows my real name, I haven' hidden it from anyone.
I know that people I care about read my blogs and comments and so I try to keep things less personal.
I really think that a lot of people think that no one will hold them accountable for their words, but they can and do.
I got censored from Brenda and it was for a direct quote from a movie. She was very gracious about it and I wasn't offended. The only regret that I had was I didn't know how to get back to edit it so that the comment could be posted in its original version.
It is always easier to be civil to people when you know that you will meet them someday on the street or at church.
I might not meet any of you ever in my lifetime, but I would surely hear my dad's voice in rebuke if I got crude or mean.
That deters me even in my 50's.
I'm like you Bonnie we have our names on our blogs. My screen name MsMarylin is pretty much my real name only spelled a little different then my name Marilyn on my blog. I have used both names, however on my birth certificate it say's I am Marylin and get this I never knew that until I was getting married and had my wedding announcements sent out.
I went all the way through school as Marilyn. Here's another thing most people didn't have. I had 3 last names before I was even married.
Back then you didn't go through all the red tape to change your name. I first changed my name when I was 8 years old. Outside of school I was never called Marilyn, I was called Mary by my family and friends.
I do feel if the ones that leave comments and don't have a blog should have to use their real names. I know how to enforce that rule when registering to comment on here :) Well I think I do anyways lol!
Babyface, to tell you the truth, I might have unconsciously might have used my youth an excuse, but in reality, alcoholics are born that way, plain and simple. Those of us who do by the grace of God get sober, are responsible for staying that way. Accepting that intellectually is the part where many fail. WE CAN NEVER EVER HAVE ANOTHER DROP OF ALCOHOL! FOR US, THE BOTTLE IS THE DEVIL INCARNATE.
Well, I like the real name thing, but we all know who everyone is anyway. I'm good with the way it is.
I just think that we should all speak as if our little Granny can hear, .... I wouldn't want to shame any of my family by my words.
I don't know everyone I don't know buckshot61 or observer, skeeter, dumbfounded (who hasn't been on for a few months) and a few others. I can't speak like little Granny can hear because I am the Granny I could be a great Granny accept I only have 3 grand children and the oldest 23 doesn't have any kids and he isn't married either.
You're way ahead of ME, Jessie.....I don't know who HALF of these people are!
Well I do know most of the bloggers. I don't use my name and if most don't like that I guess I can stop writing on here. One person on here, who comments a lot, used to work for me in the military. One is my neighbor. I was raised in a different state next to another blogger. I often see others in the local area. But if having to post a name is required, I'm done. I don't know Buckshot61.
Mike, Babyface hit it right on the nose. I don't actually KNOW everyone. What I meant was in my mind, I know who's like what. Sort of what to expect from them, etc. I already know who I don't pay any heed too...blog wise, and comment wise. Sometimes I'm surprised, but it's no big deal.
Marilyn, though you are a granny, as am I, the idea behind talking as though Grandma is listening is still a good concept. Just like everyone has a mother, everyone has a Grandmother. Just use the conceptualization of the idea.
Skeeter, I doubt that we'll have to post names. But if that did happen, I hope you'll stay. You're not often commenting, but when you do, I enjoy! You've played my "What/Where is this game.... and won! Hang in with us!
Naw, having to post a name is only required if you're authoring a blog. I don't mind it anyway, I am who I am, I know a lot of people, and every now and then run into folks I know who read my blogs......and I never even KNEW they did!
This "Buckshot61" guy......I would assume that he likes shotguns (Buckshot).....and was probably born in '61?.............who knows.......The three of us are obviously members of the same "wing" though, Skeeter.
Do you know ME personally?
And also, I do believe blogging IS educational. Whether it is you yourself that is doing the blogging, or just the reading. Of course it's educational when you read Mike's blogs. I know (maybe not alot) but way more than I used to know about guns. And Politics, (nearly inspite of myself)
Nevermind the fact that I know about many of you that you've shared with us. That learning IE: Education.
Also, those of that blog, are learning while we blog. How to put into words what will paint a picture, or explain whatever we are explaining/describing.
One of the best ways of learning, is by trying to teach. I teach several different things, and in that process, the education continues. If ever a person thinks they know it all, that would be the time to quit, because (in my opinion) they have now closed off their mind to 'newness'.
My opinion only of course
Great points, Jessie! And AGAIN.....thank you so much for helping me set up to post photos along with my blogs. Visual aids ar so much better than just reading paragraph after paragraph.
I don't have a problem with embarrassing family or friends with my words. They all know me and know what to expect :) Besides there is only 1 person in my family that's older then me, by 1 year and he doesn't read the blogs.
I don't think skeeter knows me, maybe my husband Pat, but not me. I wasn't in the military and I know he's not my neighbor and he didn't live next to me in another state. lol!
Jessie I agree thanks for getting me thinking. The blog story's are educational but most of the comments aren't its just a bunch of disagreeing or bashing.. Take it for what it is worth, my opinion.
Enjoy your day everyone. I am going to try to get some work done around here today and make some time to knit me a cashmere sweater using recycled cashmere yarn.
Personally, I think the comments are some of the most interesting. I suppose there is alot of 'bashing', but again, I already know who I 'm not planning on reading, so I skip it. So, when you typed that, at first I thought "no", but you're partially right, I just don't read them.
Enjoy your knitting!
Mary: One never know, do one!
Mike B.(Not the other Mike). We have talked a few times.
Skeeter you are a mystery :)
Posting with a nickname or posting with your real name doesn't matter. What MATTERS is what you say and how you say it, regardless of what moniker you use. I'm with skeeter on this one. My right to free speech does NOT hinge on whether I use my real name on a blog, or not. You don't like what I post, don't read it. You have a difference of opinion, fine, state it, but be civil and you'll get the same in return.
Also, given the fact that we have a very disturbed individual dwelling on this blog, I've no interest in exposing anything I'm not required to do already by Mountain Home News. Protection of my family comes first and foremost, and I will NOT abide by being harassed by some psycho that doesn't even live here. People like that are the very reason why we've had to write stalking laws.
I actually think it amazing that it REALLY bothers some people that they have no idea who I am, they want to speculate that I'm this person or that person.....and to those that feel that way, I'd just say, "TOUGH"! If I wanted you to know who I was, I'd meet you. Some I will be meeting very soon. Others I have absolutely no desire to meet now or ever. Not intending to be rude here, but that's just the facts. So, if it just kills you that you don't know who I am....I think those that want to find out could have an ulterior motive in doing so. And THAT is a can of worms not even the psycho wants to open. GUARANTEED!
