Abandoned Cats vs Snow & Cold Weather

Posted Monday, December 7, 2009, at 5:14 PM

Winters are very harsh for the abandoned and feral cats. They are lucky if they survive.

I was told that if you feed a cat for more then 7 days consider they belong to you.

I can not see a starving cat go hungry in the winter so I will continue to feed them. I have also placed some styrofoam coolers out for them with blankets inside so they can escape a little bit out of the cold.

Is it right or wrong to feed stay cats in the winter time ?

It is not their fault their irresponsible owners abandoned them !

MsM:

It always makes me sad to see animals out in this cold, loose/on the run. It also upsets me to see animals out for extended periods (I am talking hours) of time with no proper shelter, food or water. They get cold, hungry and thirsty too! I can never turn down a fuzzy face either. You have a good heart. Keep up your good works. Merry Christmas! (or is that woof-woof/meow-meow?)

It is so cold brrrrrrrrrr we won't let our little Chihuahua go out because when she goes out she can barely walk to get back in........so she is staying in until we get out of this cold spell. She is only a 5 pounder !

Stupid abandonded cats. We open our garage door for a couple hrs hoping they will get in out of the cold but soon as we go to shut the door they take off running ! woof woof/meow meow back at you ! lol !

I am with you. We have 3 cats which are a little wild, they are coming around. I guess its the mutual respect of I feed they eat....

I really liked the idea of the foam cooler, never thought of that one. We have a couple of dog houses with plenty of blankets and a heated water dish.

If someone needs older blankets they are very cheap at the Idaho Youth Ranch.

Also, heated pads for them to lay on. They don't put out alot of heat, but once an animal lays down, the generated heat is life saving!

Coolers are a good idea!

Love those tips!

I am so excited !! I was able to catch one of the wild cats last night and put it in the garage for the night. It was as if it wanted to be caught . I reached down and it didn't run and I picked it up figuring I was about to get scratched while walking with it to the garage door, and to my amazement I didn't get any scratch's no blood dripped from my arms. lol !

So I got brave and tried to catch another one. I caught one more this one I think was an abandoned cat and put him/her in the garage.

I am on a roll and go back to get another but I wasn't as lucky this time. I almost got another one but it ran off. I'm happy I was able to put 2 in the garage for the night. The garage was at 40 degrees inside it and outside well I think you know how cold it was last night lol ! The cat's in the garage must of felt the differnce. lol !

Kittens and Horses need homes......... I don't know if this is real

-- Posted by workingbee on Fri, Dec 11, 2009, at 8:18 PM

WB:

Thank you for your posting. It is a real ad and the horses/cats do need homes. If you have the space and some "extra" cash for feed---these animals will give back to you far more than they will ever take. With unemployment, etc. we will see more of this. Very sad. Thanks for the post WB. A local hay farmer and I plan to take a trip out there and bring back 1 or 2 horses. I will post pictures once we get them back here.

Gosh maybe if someone would help them out with feed they could keep their horses and kittens. Just a thought ! I wonder if the kittens are strays they been trying to feed?

Update on the horses...they are studs. One is 5 years old and the other is a colt. They are still available as the place I was going to send them to will not/cannot keep studs.

MsM, this person cannot keep them because the place she lives is too small. They were on 20 acres and are now on a really small place. The lady wants $300.00 for the 5 year old stud and the colt is "free."

OM

I am thinking the move to the smaller place was because of our economy.. It's sad when people can no longer afford their pets.

Senior Citizens aren't getting a cost of living raise 2010. They say the cost of living never changed I guess THEY don't pay much attention to their Electric and Heat bills nor do they notice what it costs at the food stores now.

I don't know much about horses but that price for the 5 yr old seems reasonable to me ?

MsM:

With the cost of feed, unemployment, etc. it is hard to give a horse away at this point. It can also be costly to geld (make a horse not a stud). Studs are also harder to keep (or can be I should say). I hope she does find a home for them.

Hello, I'm looking for my outside cat. She disappeared around Dec.18th, 2009. She has a heated house, food and lots of love. Miss her deeply, just want to know she's okay. She is black and orange, named Phonix, and nickname is Phie. I have called the animal control daily, she has her shots and is fixed. If she is happy and you love her. You can keep her just want to know she Okay. Can other's understand? I feed the cats outside who are hungry, nothing should be hungry. Yes, all cats homeless and ones who have homes just wanting to eat out.
