Too young to die.
6TH & RHINO INDEPENDENT FILMS, a local Mountain Home production company did a short film called, Shade of Gray Area. The 11-minute short film was shown at the Flicks in November at a Short Film Festival.

The feature film, GRAY AREA (Spring 2011) is an original story written by Ken Dahlgren. The screenplay was written by both Ken Dahlgren, local retail worker and Kim Kovac, a Program Assistant for the Elmore County Extension. They joined forces with the Cinematography talents of Dewayne "Beau" Beaucher and Randall Werschky. Beau spends his personal time working with the International Paranormal Reporting Group which is an Idaho-version of ghost-hunters. Beau is the cameraman; recording paranormal investigations that take place all over the state. And Randall has been a local cameraman for years, specializing in personal gigs like weddings and birthdays. He has recently expanded his talents to work with Eddie Ortiz and Kim Kovac to produce commercials.

'Our goal is to take the film to several top Film Festivals. We have started a fundraiser at Kickstarter.com,' states Kovac. Kickstarter is a website that specializes in helping raise money for creative projects. A person can donate as little as one dollar toward the project goal. They have until Feb. 28th to reach their goal of $4,000. If they don't raise the money, then all donors will not have to donate the money promised.

Kim states, "We have worked with 20-something people filming all over the Elmore County area to produce our 1st feature film. So far, all we have had is money from our pockets, donated props and excellent talent. We hope to raise the $4,000 to cover some editing costs to finish the film and a small portion to cover expenses for film festivals. Once the film is completed, we plan to screen it here locally first."

This is your opportunity to support a local Indie film company. All of the people in Mtn Home who gave their time and locations will be credited in the film. All the people or businesses that donate on kickstarter will also be credited on the film, both by name and picture.

"Thanks for your support. It means so much to have the people of Mtn Home behind us. Let's show Hollywood that you don't need a big-budget to entertain and tell a story."

No offense, but, I'd try another go at a different film. What I saw was not very good...sorry

The story begins on an icy ribbon of highway in North Dakota, where an odd character in a decrepit station wagon encounters a man lying in the road, apparently frozen.

Thanks Moanah for watching the short (I assume) and for your comment. Keep in mind that this was our first feature film attempt and everything is a learning process. With no budget, I am very proud of what we have done so far. There were many mistakes but the experience has been priceless. We have learned alot from making this film.

Sunshine: That storyline sounds very good. I have another script that I plan to make into a film that involves an encounter on a country road. Most people can relate to how creepy it feels to be on the road somewhere alone and vulnerable. So have you written a script that involves that storyline?

Good luck Kim. If I was more into video, I'd be happy to try my hand at helping, but still is what I do.

Hey Jessie: Thanks for reading and commenting. I will always have a love affair with still. I am currently reviewing footage with the eye of a photographer to pick the perfect stills for framing. That is one of the rewards that we are offering to donors. I find that as I am watching footage, the still photography lover in me is the one that guides me. The 'perfect' shot is always the prize. If you look at my website of pics for the film, you will see a few stills. My favorite still so far is a shot that I took as I laid on the desert ground, next to the "dead" body and looked up at the detectives who are talking over her. One detective has just touched her arm which shows a hand bruise. I love it! So real, yet I know that she is very much alive. Perhaps you would be interested in being a set photographer on my next film. I love behind the scenes stills. I think I will attach it to this blog.

I've lived in Mtn Home for over 20 years. I love my city and my country. Since I am a writer, my decision to blog here seemed appropriate. I enjoy acting so I've been blessed with the opportunity to work on some independent films and with Prairie Dog Productions and Bogus Creek Ranch. I hope that something I have to write about has some value for others or just amuses someone.
