Robin Hood SyndromePosted Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 1:23 PM
Don't move!
I was so angry when I heard (the rumor?) that the "Rich" would have a 45% tax rate. Just like I was angry when the government decided that it was justifiable to take 95% of the income of any CEO that they wanted. How is it that those who have a socialist viewpoint talk about 'fairness" and that it is not fair when there are so many who have not while others have it all. It should be leveled. We should all have the same. That is what they think fairness is. So explain to me how it is "fair" for someone to work 45% of their year to pay for those who have none? Just to be upfront here, I fall in the lower-middle class and therefore I am not RICH. However, I don't hate rich people and wouldn't mind it if I were in the upper middle class. I can see how fair it would be if every single American, no matter what their income was, gave 10-15% of their yearly labor to help pay. I see that as fair. And each American decided for themselves how much of the rest of their income they would dedicate to their other charitiable giving. To force someone to give away a larger percentage of their labor in order to give to the poor or to pay for something the poor can't afford is a sure-fire way to break the spirit of a nation. I just don't understand this "share-the-wealth" mentality and how it would be a good creed for our future. Let me see if I can make it even more clear in my mind. I have a talent or skill that an employer needs. He pays me an income for that work. As a citizen, I give a portion of that income and the rest is mine. As long as that portion that I give is reasonalble, everyone is happy. Afterall, we all are willing to provide for our nation. However, if my income is forcibly taken from me at an alarming rate, then my income is no longer mine. My skill or labor is owned by another and therefore I am enslaved to the entity that takes my money. Like the sharecroppers of the past, we labor to give to another and we are given a small percentage to survive. How is that fair? How is that morally right? What psycholoical effect does that have on a person? What incentive do I have to be a slave to a government? Is that not one of the reasons that America was populated in the beginnning? Too many taxes and too little freedom? How happy of a person will I be knowing that from Jan. to the middle of May (approximately) all of my income will be taken? Of course, I am talking about those people who are the top 3%. Those evil millionaires who have so much money should be sharing with us all, right? Economically, this will enslave us. Psycologically, this will demean us. Spiritually, this will break us. Leaving an overall bleak picture. Those who can afford it, will have more incentive to liguidate, pack up and find another place to call home. The wealthy will leave and along with them, their companies, their businesses and their top employees too. Who will be here to employ us lower class? Who will be left to provide for us? If the rich are not here to be taxed in order to give to us, then what? Oh, I know, the government will just make it so that if you were born in the USA, you pay taxes no matter where you live. So then if you live in another country, you pay 45% to America and 25% to that country and there ya go! The rest is yours, you lucky dog! I've lived in Mtn Home for over 20 years. I love my city and my country. Since I am a writer, my decision to blog here seemed appropriate. I enjoy acting so I've been blessed with the opportunity to work on some independent films and with Prairie Dog Productions and Bogus Creek Ranch. I hope that something I have to write about has some value for others or just amuses someone.

DT,
Not with integrity or self-respect. I've heard it said that criminals eat well, but honest folk sleep better. ZZZZZZZZZZzzzz
Yo, dog!
Can you really do that?!
If they re-run Beck's show from yesterday, on tv this afternoon, I strongly advise you guys to watch it, with this particular English guest.
What we had BETTER start looking at REAL HARD, is this "World Treaty Conference" coming up next month. It is not just another business trip or something to take lightly.
C'mon now........Obama's not a thief, he's a "community organizer." He's just gotten into "re-organizing" our finances now, with a "little help from his friends", as the Beatles would have said.
Junkyard dog, I am just beaming with pride. Well said! Robin Hood was a thief. Justifying a crime is exactly what our current President and his staff live and breath. Wrong is wrong. Thanks for putting it into words so well.
It's like this.
I planned on making $100,000 this year; but, only made $50,000. Therefore, like my bank, I'm entitled to register a $50,000 loss on this year's tax form. Furthermore, I can claim discounts for supporting the handicapped, like blind investors, and deaf citizens who never heard that you can't spend more than you can afford. The best news of all, is that, this year, my ACLU friend told me, it's cool if I want to convert to Islam, register myself as a lesbian biker for kids with ADHD, and start up a Cookies for Cons telethon. This will make me politically attractive enough for gov't employees to actually seek me out so they can set me up as a new icon for American citizenship.
After all is said and done, I'll be able to claim the U.S. gov't as a dependent on my income taxes. But, I won't get greedy. I reckon, the citizens of this great land only owe me about $50K. To ask for more might require foreign investment.
Who wouldn't want to live here, the land of milk and honey, where the cows and bees do all the work, and the unlimited dependency of government gets fat on sweets?
Robin Hood was first and foremost a thief. Centuries later, he became enshrined as a folkhero. Currently, he's just a common progressive who thinks that stealing is OK, as long as it's for a good reason... You know, like getting elected. God bless America.
The BEST foreign policy would be none at all. George Washington HIMSELF warned us to stay OUT of foreign affairs.
I gotta go with that.
Okay then!
I agree with you on several of those points you touched on, although many of the points you bring up are issues that may be addressed at the local or state level.
I fail to see why there would be any burden on the city after a single family home is built. I can understand fees for code inspections in some cases. As a for instance, apartment complexes. If someone can enlighten me as to what the fees are required for, by all means, please do.
Now, I've got a question regarding foreign aid. Over on Kim's post of Oct. 29, "There's no place...", I've been in a bit of a back and forth with OpinionMissy. She and I agree(though she may not agree that we agree)that many nations stood by and did nothing to prevent the Nazi's crimes against humanity. There have been other instances of genocide since WWII. I think we all remember Pol Pot. More recently there was Bosnia-Herzegovina (sp?), Rwanda, and now, Darfur. Wouldn't a foreign policy that didn't include humanitarian aid be less effective?
Absolutely. There ARE those situations when bartering would work. Several years ago, I traded a rifle that I didn't really need for a pickup truck that I DID need.
Worked out well for both of us.
On the downside of that transaction though, I DID have to pay a sales tax on the truck (when I went to register it).....which is a crock!
THIS is one of those areas where the people are unfairly taxed............
Earlier this year, I added a 64 Ford Fairlane to the "stable". This car has probably seen at LEAST 4 or 5 other owners over its 45 years of existence............and it was ALREADY taxed when it was NEW.
Got no problem with plates & registration, but there shouldn't BE a tax on something that already HAS been.
Like being a "homeowner". There is no such THING as a homeowner in this country. You could pay it off and have the "deed", but the first time you don't pay your "property tax", they can take it out from under you.................It's SUPPOSED to be YOURS, isn't it.
Wanna build another room onto "YOUR" house? See how many palms you have to grease to be ALLOWED to improve "your" own house.
Your Aunt Margie died and left you her grand piano that's been in YOUR family for 3 generations now. If it's worth enough money, you have to pay an "inheritance tax" for something that's been in the Thompson family for 70 years. (In most states, anyway).
Is THAT ok with YOU? ......ANY of it? Well, it ain't with ME!
As I've said on numerous occasions, I don't have a problem being taxed because it DOES take money to keep repair up in this country.
BUT I WANT THAT MONEY USED FOR US!
ALL OF IT.......USED FOR US.
Not for Ethiopia, Asia, Mexico, Nancy's new jet, one of Rangel's mansions, to help make money for Feinstein's husband, or someone else's yacht.
Cancer research is one thing. Dehumidifiers for Bolivian bullfrogs is a different matter.
Dave, if I bought a chair from you at your garage sale, and some A-hole from some State office in Boise witnessed it, he'd be looking to find some kind of way for me to have to pay a "transfer tax", and for YOU to pay for some sort of "vendor's license" in order for you to conduct business on the driveway of your own home, that you're never gonna own anyway.
THIS is what it's coming to, whether you see it or not.
I'm asking these questions in the context of bazookaman's plan. Look back and review the earlier comments. Do you have any insight into how those questions would be addressed under bazookaman's outline?
How would your tariff taxes limit government spending?
Where's the fairness in paying a tax to participate in the economy?
-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Wed, Nov 4, 2009, at 8:47 PM
Is that not what we do now Dave? We pay taxes to support big business and bail them out when they fall flat on their faces due to an inability to budget, etc. So, WE do pay taxes "to participate in the economy" no matter how bad it gets. We pay-pay-pay! So what was your point with this comment? Without the middle class to tow the line, the fat cats at the top would starve because God knows they do not pay their "fair share."
If consumers sought to acquire goods and services with the tariff tax in place, could they barter for those goods and services and not be expected to pay tax?
No. The Tariff tax would only apply as it did in the beginning. You paid a tax only on things you BOUGHT. If you thought the tax was too much, you simply didn't buy it.
But you weren't FORCED to buy ANYTHING, (under penalty if you didn't). And they couldn't just TAKE from you.............VITAL Dave..........very VITAL..............THEY COULDN'T JUST TAKE FROM YOU.................THEY worked for US. Novel concept, ain't it?
So basically, as in the beginning of America, you only paid a tax on things you bought, and the sellers would HAVE to keep their prices at a reasonable rate, or they'd get no business at all.
The GOVERNMENT wouldn't be wasting money anymore either, if they knew that this wss THEIR only source of revenue as well. They couldn't just "tax, mandate and take."
THEY would have to be as careful with money as the rest of us.
It worked back then, because America was freshly a free nation. EVERYBODY followed the Constitution that was written after we got rid of the British.
But we've become lazy as a society. Easier to just let the politicians and carpetbaggers determine the law, so WE don't have to get involved, and are free to watch the Superbowl.
And so..............little by little............ever so gradually.............
We find ourselves living in a bureaucracy where you damned near need a Permit to BREATHE anymore ("Global Warmist Internet-Inventor" Al Gore is probably thinking up something along those lines even as we speak).
The solution (in my opinion), is for the people to stand and say ENOUGH..........
This is OUR country, not YOUR "country club"
We FIRE them.............every last one of them, and if it takes a revolt to do it, then that's what we do.
Our Constitution is once AGAIN the law of the land.
The government gets what WE say they get, and they learn to budget like WE have to.
Because so many people have proven themselves to be too stupid to vote BUMS out, there would be term limits for EVERY ONE OF THEM.
The U.N. GOES
The illegals GO
ANY Un-American group GOES
Foreign aid STOPS
Our troops fight for OUR shores. No others.
If my kid wants to pray in school, that's HIS business, not yours.
Death Penalty reinstated and enforced in all 50-------extended to rapists and child molestors, One appeal, not 30 years of them on the taxpayer's dime.
Gay marriage? Sure if that's what you want, but don't look for tax dollars for more AIDS research. The taxpayers shouldn't have to subsidize perversion. We're not paying you to keep doing what you're doing.
Property tax-----------GONE, once you OWN it.
Abortion--------HER business, not ours.
Oil------------let the ragheads cook with it, we'll drill our own.
Guns------up to YOU. Own or NOT own, your choice, no one else's
Child endangerment---------an old fashioned butt-warming is often necessary, and certainly NOT abuse. More often than not, prevents crimes later
And if I wanted to take the time, I could write an extensive list, but you get the idea.
PS----------almost forgot. Amendment to the death penalty. No more lethal injection. The killer gets it the same way his victims did.
I'm asking because back on Kim's Oct. 29th post, you commented, "We ARE on tap to be FORCED into buying things whether we want to or not, under threats of fines and other penalties, aren't we! (HCB)"
Would citizens be forced to participate in the tariff tax you envision, or will there be an opt-out provision?
How would your tariff taxes limit government spending?
Where's the fairness in paying a tax to participate in the economy?
Sometimes I think I'm the only one around here who objects to having his pockets continually picked!
Everyone else seems to be "ok" with it.
The "streets" is in opposition to blowing funds on useless crap like tunnels for turtles.
Defense would be funded through tariff taxes on things we all buy, like everything else would be.
That's ALL the tax money I think they should get, since they OBVIOUSLY can't handle it.
Congressional spending has been out of control for a long time now, and the WASHINGTON SOLUTION has been "Well, we'll just come up with new and more taxes to make up for it!"
AREN'T YOU TIRED OF THAT BY NOW?
It's like if your kid asked you for $5,000 because his house needed repair. You give it to him. He buys a new door knob and a couple of light switches, then goes to Vegas and blows the rest of it.....................then comes back to YOU again with his hand out once again.
This government is made up of about 400 professional con men & women.
................and we're not even being kissed.........
I'm asking because in your earlier comment, the first thing on your list appears as, "I want our STREETS fixed so I don't knock my front end out of alignment..."
Did you really mean to tell us that? With all the posturing you've made on this blog, the first thing on your list of "wants" is "...STREETS fixed so I don't knock my front end out of alignment..."?!
No, bazookaman, what are your suggestions for funding the limited government you favor? For instance, how do you envision funding defense?
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/con...
Most of my plan is not for public knowledge over an unsecured net.
But........."peaceful-wise", Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee BOTH have plans to shut down the Federal Reserve (which NEEDS to happen.......and they also will pull us OUT of the U.N. (which ALSO needs to happen).
I think Obama will DRIVE a lot of people into the arms of those who DO care about whT HAPPENS TO US.
In last year's primaries, the GOP didn't support Huckabee in great numbers because he ISN'T one of the "status quo"...............and Ron Paul was BARRED from SEVERAL debates, to squelch his message of corruption. Congressman Paul is a direct threat to EVERY politician who's in there for his own wallet. The GOP has learned a hard lesson, and it SHOULD be a different story next time around----------especially if Hoffman wins in New York today.
So to answer your question Dave...........my PUBLIC plan is to try to reach as many as I can through blogs, email, in-person, tea parties etc, in fleeting hopes of waking a few a of them up.
Plan "B", is something I'm sure Big Brother would like to know. And Big Brother has a "laptop" too.
The main reason I scrapped my OWN blogsite, is that all too often in the heat of emotions, men are likely to forget where their best interests lie, and tend to divulge things they shouldn't, just to try to make a point.
Everytime you boot one of these computers up..........you really have NO idea who might be on the other end out there.
I trust God, my wife and my Smith & Wesson. But damned few others.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/26941466/?slide=1
So, what's your plan?
My main gripe with the taxes they take, is what they USE the money for.
I want our STREETS fixed so I don't knock my front end out of alignment-----------I don't CARE about studying the effects of wet cement on South peruvian grasshoppers.
I want to see a few more missiles in silos, and more fighter jets in the air--------I don't CARE about AIDS research for Ethiopia.
I want our defense funds used to protect OUR borders---------SCREW Europe
Michelle Obama can take her kids to Burger King, like everybody else-------not Air Force One to London for fish & chips.
John Murtha can pay for his OWN memorial airport.
Toll roads? They CREATE more traffic jams than people do on their own. Let them KEEP them back east if they want, and OUT of here. And it's just one MORE tax avenue...........pretty soon, we'll need to buy a permit to breathe! They're coming up with ENOUGH goofy ideas on their own.
Besides that, when we have to cough up 4 bucks a gallon during the summertime gouging-----and only get 90 octane in return, they don't need anymore tax money.
A lot of us still drive REAL Honest-to-God machinery, and whenever the old T-Bird or Cougar go out, it costs me extra for lead substitute to protect the valves, and Octane Boost, to make up for the pitiful quality of fuel available today.
NOT to mention the ethanol, that would otherwise wreak havoc with your entire fuel system if you're carbureted.
I'm surprised some fool hasn't come up with meters to put on our toilets, and a fee get charged everytime we flush!
I am SICK of hearing all this s--t coming down on US, when the government outspends everybody else combined. And people stick up for them........like maybe "that doesn't count" or something.
And folks............even if a guy spends 5 grand of HIS OWN MONEY for a speedboat he might not need, at least it's HIS money. It isn't coming out of OUR pockets, and he DOES have something to show for it.
Before anybody says ANYTHING to the rest of us............THIS GOVERNMENT needs to STOP blowing our tax dollars that DOESN'T belong to them, on useless crap that doesn't help YOU and I.
Everyone would have to be on the same sheet of music, but WE ultimately control the pursestrings. If everyone STOPPED paying taxes (most of which is illegal anyway, if you do your Constitutional homework)..........what are they gonna do? Jail us all?
Unless we collectively come up with a plan to GET their hands out of our pockets, THIS GOVERNMENT is going to tax us out of existence and slowly bleed us to death. And we're already seeing it.
I have no gripe with the amount of federal income tax I pay. Just considering the service I receive in the area of the defense of the nation I live in, the amount I pay is well worth it and I'm getting a bargain. Sure, the money could be used more wisely in some cases, but those instances of $600 hammers are the exception.
I have disagreement with the manner in which the state administers a sales tax. I believe sales taxes should be crafted to directly address and offset specific burdens that are placed on the state as the result of desired economic activity. A consumer making a purchase places no economic burden on the state whether the purchase is made through a grocery store or a car dealer.
Fuel taxes should address the specific actions the state takes to address the impact the consumption of those fuels has on our environment. Fuel taxes would not be used to support highways and roads.
All highways and roads should be supported by tolls with those tolls based on vehicle types and the specific construction methods used when constructing specific roadways. Here's a limited for instance, all passenger cars with two axles would pay a flat rate of .02 cents per mile on any highway within the state. Over the road trucks would pay a rate based on 1) the gross vehicle weight, and 2) the type of road construction used on the specific roadway they are travelling.
Other ideas?
Hey.............a little bit of trivia, on the lighter side...........
In that "Robin Hood" movie of 1938, starring Errol Flynn...........Olivia DeHavilland played the role of Lady Marion. If you ever get a chance to watch that movie, there is a scene where she is being escorted in a huge horse entourage through Sherwood Forest.
She is riding a beautiful young Golden Palamino stallion whose registered name at the time was "Golden Cloud."
It was "Trigger's first movie" before becoming Roy Rogers' horse. And Roy bought him.
You know, if EVERYONE just paid a flat tax, THAT would be fair.
If 10% is good enough for Jesus, it ought to be enough for Uncle Sam. It isn't of course, but just for the sake of discussion, let's say that everybody got taxed a flat 10% on their income.............
If you made $20,000 a year, your tax would be 2,000
If you were one of those "rich" CEO's making say a MILLION dollars a year, your tax would be $100,000
That would be as fair to the rich guy as it is to US.
The original tax system was TARIFF. You only paid taxes on WHAT YOU BOUGHT. If we returned to THOSE days, we'd still have enough to operate the country................
CONGRESS would be forced to live on a budget like the rest of us, and there wouldn't BE anymore $600.00 hammers, Fish & chips runs to London or tunnels for turtles.
Guys like Charlie Rangel would have to find OTHER "ways & means" to make his money.
At work, YOU get a raise, only if your boss thinks you've done a good enough job to warrant one.
Congress works for US.................fill in the blanks.
But additional taxes on the "wealthy" is like drilling more holes in the bottom of the boat while you're trying to bail the water out at the same time.
The government doesn't create jobs,(unless you're a "czar wannabe"), the government (THIS one anyway) only creates MORE government and more debt behind those "transparent doors."
The private sector creates jobs, and the more people they can afford to hire, the BETTER their productivity. Additional taxes, fees and fines force cuts in workforces.
The administration is upset because people aren't spending much these days to "stimulate' the economy...............Well, no S--T SHERLOCK.......this ain't the time to go out and buy a condo when you don't know if you're even gonna have a JOB next week!
The Republicans have been pushing for Washington to STOP all this perk and pork spending..........
WHAT??????????????? Are you guys out of your MINDS? Get OUT of here.......somebody lock that door. Too many deals still need to get cut.
Robin Hood was a great movie (1938 with Errol Flynn), but isn't gonna fly on THIS street.
Hypothetical..........
I'm out in the driveway washing the VW, garage door open. Neighbor asks to borrow a quart of oil. Neighbor's a good guy, as I try to be, so I give him one and go about my business.
Side 2..........I'm out in the driveway washing the VW. Mayor and 2 town counselmen stop by my house..........WALK into my garage uninvited, TAKE 2 or 3 quarts and start walking out with them........."What the hell are you guys DOING?" I ask.
"Oh, there's a guy across town that needs 3 quarts, and you seem to have more than you need," says the Mayor.
"But THAT isn't YOUR oil to give him! It's MINE!"
"Not anymore friend, we just passed a new city ordinance, and everyone has to spread the wealth............you didn't know about it? We had a meeting just last night and voted it in!"
Now if this WERE to happen at my place, there'd be an ambulance on its way shortly.
And as we speak, we have another tea party express bus on ITS way ascross the country!
(They thought the first one was just a flash in the pan!).
