There's no place...

like home.
Like the story of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, we got disenchanted with our world. It was turning gray. Overcast and a storm was brewing. We looked around and could see no color and as the gloom settled over us, like Dorothy, we felt lost and maybe even unloved or out of place. Surely, there was something better. Dorothy thought that she didn't belong and set out to find the world of her dreams, over the rainbow. Who does she find? What catches her eye? A snake-oil salesman who can sweet-talk an eskimo into buying an snowcone maker. She is desperate to believe. She is mesmerized by his sparkle and doesn't notice that the clouds have darkened and the storm is upon her. Fear spurs her into action as she rushes back to the old dependable farm, to the family that she had taken for granted but she's too late. The wind howls and the tornado roars. She can't get underground because the door has been closed. Locked out of safety, she must hope for the best inside the old house. Well, we know the story.

In this new world of beauty, she finds illusion and evil. Friends are made along the way and each friend suffers the same sickness. They all yearn for something they think they don't have. They travel to see the wonderful Wizard of Oz because everyone says that only he can grant them their wishes. Surely a man as great as him could make everything right.

They journey, overcome and manage to escape the evil wicked witch and make it to the Emerald city, home of the Wizard. It is a grand place and dazzling to the senses. They are so desperate to win Oz's favor that they go beyond their own normal character and kill off the witch. When they return, they are not rewarded with kindness but assaulted with fear. And the fear could have caused them to leave, never to return, never to discover their dreams but for the discovery of that curtain. Distracted by the illusion, they didn't see the curtain until Toto, a little dog took their eyes away the show and forced them to look at reality. The great and powerful Oz was just a little man. Nothing more, nothing less. His secret is out. What could he do? He had no power to grant wishes.

Instead, the great Oz tells them truth. Scarecrow, you already have a brain, far greater than the smartest professor, it is called Common Sense. You sir, Tinman, you don't have to cry for a heart because you always had one. You have loved far deeper than many could ever understand. And look at you, lion! You worried about your cowardly ways but when needed, your roar was louder than anyone expected. You can be the King of the Forest if you have a mind to. All of Dorothy's friends were looking for something that they already had. But what about Dorothy? She was stuck in a land that was nothing like the world she had wanted. It wasn't home and there's no place like home! How could she ever find her way back? How could she have been so stupid not to appreciate the wonderful world that she had lived in? Did the great and powerful Oz have the golden ticket, a passport back? No. Instead a calm and reassuring voice spoke and told Dorothy that she had always had the power to return. Was it the ruby slippers? What she had to discover was that she held the power to her future. She had within her everything needed to find her way home. Little Dorothy was the real Oz. She was the great and powerful. And she went home.

In your life, who do you wish to be? Are you Dorothy? Who is the witch? Who is Oz? Do you see your world as dreary, colorless? Are you forever yearning for what is beyond the rainbow? Will you not wake up in time to see that the wonderful place called home could change into a world of illusion? You may not realize it but you are OZ and you have the power within to go back home.

I hope you enjoyed that. Just thought a little fairy tale was just what we needed right now. Click your heels 3 times and say it with me! There's no place like home. There's no place like home. THERES NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

When asked occasionally why I quote the "ramblings of a bunch of old farts from the 18th century who don't have to live in 2009", I always reply:

Because those "old farts" were smart enough to be sure they didn't HAVE to live in a "2009", and after kicking THEIR "masters" out, they drafted up our Constitution for us to follow, so that WE didn't have to endure a "2009" either...................they were assuming of course that future generations would be as intelligent, as vigilant and have the same amount of spine as THEY had. (Boy, THAT'S a real "knee-slapper", ain't it?).

Our founders spilled a lot of blood so we could have our SUV's, plasma screen televisions and microwave ovens, and be able to grumble and gripe if we so desire.

And to just allow it all to be taken away from us, step by step, without a shot fired, thinking the government is going to wrap its loving arms around us like "Linus' Security Blanket"..................

That "old fart" Ben Franklin knew what he was talking about. He knew it way back THEN.

WE........today............remind me of old Sergeant Schultz from "Hogan's Heroes"..........................."I see nut-ting, I hear nut-ting, I KNOW NUT-TING!!"

Even as the "Gestapo" is driving into our camp.................and Pelosi says we need to pay the fines or go to jail........

Yes..........."Those who trade freedom for security deserve neither."

"Those who trade freedom for security deserve neither."

Benjamin Franklin

Exactly, Twil. Poverty and desperation are perfect situations that lead people to ignore things, accept things they normally wouldn't and do things that they never thought they would. Desperate people will follow the charm of the piper.

What does THIS regime owe ITS life to?

-- Posted by bazookaman on Thu, Nov 12, 2009, at 4:36 PM

Not to be a know-it-all but Hitler's regime owes its life to the crushing poverty brought on Kaiser Wilhelms poor decision-making and Germany not getting off the gold standard. If not for the poverty and desperation, the propaganda would have ended up as firewood or used in the bathroom.

Maybe Fox news can find a spot for him. Be a better fit. With Lou leaving CNN, it is now the most left wing news network on the air. Too bad MSNBC!

-- Posted by mhbouncer on Thu, Nov 12, 2009, at 7:14 AM

No surprise at all. These days, when you tell the truth, you ARE "controversial."

Dobbs never had any business working for that flakey network. They ought to hire him at FOX and fire that nutjob Geraldo.

This just in:

Controversial Host Lou Dobbs Quits CNN

(Nov. 11) -- Longtime CNN host Lou Dobbs shocked his viewers Wednesday by announcing that he would be leaving the network effective immediately. The daily host of "Lou Dobbs Tonight" addressed his viewers after giving the day's headlines and told them Wednesday's show would be his final time in the anchor chair.

http://news.aol.com/article/lou-dobbs-co...

"This will be my last broadcast," he said.

Some times I amaze myself.

-- Posted by Beau on Wed, Nov 11, 2009, at 10:19 PM

In that case, he CAN'T last much longer at the Communist News Network

-- Posted by bazookaman on Wed, Nov 11, 2009, at 7:01 AM

Yes, Lou Dobbs graduated from Minico I beleive in 1967. He actually was the speaker at my graduation when I went to Minico. A very well spoken man who seems to rememeber where he came from

-- Posted by mhbouncer on Wed, Nov 11, 2009, at 12:04 AM

Google your own " " Dave and you can find a fair amount of info. When I did, the story you are looking for is 1 that came up. Good luck. I am sure you will see the light.

Of course, if one just wanted to know about Obama's stand in general, you could just type in "Obama on Guns", and the whole internet world will light up with things he's done while a Senator, what he has voted voted, etc.

Biden too...........and with the Democratic party's sponsorship of every anti-gun proposal on the books, the great run on America's gunshops after the election was no surprise. We are just now beginning to see ammo re-supply, as manufacturers have been busting butt to catch up and keep up with demand.

This is not a party to be trusted with our liberties or anything else.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 2:44 PM

Naw...........that's the one I got sent to me through an email. I had to hit it a few times, but it DID go through for me.

Wasn't any big deal for me, though............it ain't like I didn't already know it. I've been preparing for a long time now.

We'll see what happens in Copenhagen next month.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 2:35 PM

bazookaman, I had no luck searching reuters.com for the headline "Obama took the first step in banning guns", is there any other resource you know of? Thanks

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Tue, Nov 10, 2009, at 10:52 AM

If Dobbs was raised here in Idaho, he'll definitely get canned. Most people raised around HERE rely on common sense, which doesn't fit in New York. Besides, at CNN, you're only allowed to say whatever benifits the left.

Oh well......Geraldo has HIS own show on FOX., but at least Hannity and O'Reilly STEADILY have liberals on their panels to spark some lively debates. As soon as Geraldo starts losing an argument, he conveniently "runs out of time."

Kind of puts me in mind of Miss California. The gay guy stands up and asks her a question. She gives an honest answer and got HAMMERED for it. Cost her the crown, but she never flinched on her beliefs.

Yeah Beau, two-sided stories and CNN don't mix. Dobbs is probably done.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Mon, Nov 9, 2009, at 6:29 AM

Dobbs is the token conservative at CNN. BTW, he was partially raised here in Idaho, I believe that he graduated from Minico H.S.

Of course Dobbs will probably be fired from CNN after that last piece,

-- Posted by Beau on Sun, Nov 8, 2009, at 10:41 PM

......There is also a VERY interesting piece of news from CNN of all people...............

http://d.yimg.com/kq/groups/17260182/161...

Might take you 4 or 5 stabs at it, but it's well worth it..............and THIS ain't from FOX!

and once again............final post stopped at "161"......so continue FROM 161 and type 0997888/name/ftc-v126.wmv

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sun, Nov 8, 2009, at 6:59 PM

Dave............the headline is:

Obama took the first step in banning guns

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sun, Nov 8, 2009, at 6:47 PM

Kim:

I am right there with you! I do not need power or a big house with all of the "creature comforts" at this stage of the game. Let me know when you find that place...all of the "paranoids" and "nuts" can live together. "Community" farms can feed people and what a person "needs" can be traded for. I am all for a simple life with no taxes and reformed healthcare run by a Government who has no clue. Today just disgusts me. Obama and his Dems are a disgrace.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Sun, Nov 8, 2009, at 10:09 AM

bazookaman, the Reuters link you provided doesn't function. Could you provide the headline? I'll just run a search on reuters.com Thanks.

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Sun, Nov 8, 2009, at 9:50 AM

Know how thet're gonna get healthcare for illegals passed in this bill? They're gonna grant them AMNESTY and make 'em CITIZENS, so their "messiah" won't appear to have been lying when he said they WOULDN'T be included.

Watch that happen.

And why not? It ain't money out of THEIR pockets...........and it'll be another 12 million "guarenteed" voters.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sat, Nov 7, 2009, at 5:07 PM

It is the naysayers who VOTED for this regime, just about this time a year ago.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sat, Nov 7, 2009, at 4:58 PM

Yep Missy, I wrote about these places to house people awhile back but I was called paranoid and crazy. I think that naysayers will be our undoing. I hope not and hope is a wonderful thing that we still have. Although once hope is gone, I'm liguidating and moving to some more isolated place. Not sure where but it is there in the back of my mind. I never thought I would consider it but then again, I never thought I would see what I'm seeing today.

Mike, thank you for your response. I thought I was pretty clear regarding what "facts" were in dispute. Clearly not clear enough even with the " " marks. You can lead a horse to water...

Sorry you did not get to shoot. At least you had some time for good conversation with people who have an ability to think and have/voice opinions based on the facts. Hard/rare to find these days.

Read H.R. 645 again today. Dave, here is the link for ya just so you have all of the facts.

Met an American citizen today. Born and raised in the USA and has never been outside of the good old USA. The Feds put a GPS tracking system on her car and big brother is recording/listening to all phone calls in and out of her house. She is also on a no fly list as well. 60 years old with no criminal history, has paid her taxes, etc. This is what your Government can do for you if given the chance!

Missy...........didn't work out today. Calm when I left the house but gusting when I got there. Might try again this afternoon if it backs off.

Saw and talked to Bouncer this morning, though. Always good to talk with fellow Americans, so the morning wasn't a total loss!

-- Posted by bazookaman on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 1:14 PM

# 2............you're right about that..........not WILLINGLY

#3...........right again............which is the VERY REASON we need to bring THIS regime to a screeching halt, before it DOES have a chance to get "rockin' & rollin'!

-- Posted by bazookaman on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 1:12 PM

Good grief Dave! Get a clue. Like I said...my time for "stupid" for this day is over. I cannot be any more clear for you. Perhaps Mike or Kim will draw you the picture that you so very much need.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 12:46 PM

Good grief, you're wordy! You addressed #1, but not completely. What about #2 & #3?

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 11:43 AM

Kim:

I have never met you (I have met your husband) and I hope that one day I will have that chance. Keep up your good works gal as many of us love what you write and your "passion" for YOUR America. You make us think, research, digest and think some more (some of us anyway).

Mike:

Right on track my friend. Take care today and watch your back.

Dave:

Let me try again in a MORE simple way for you so that you might get it (probably not but here it goes). In life, people make choices. Some of those choices are good and some of those choices are bad. We are only human and human beings make mistakes. With that said, the events of WWII/the holocaust DID NOT happen over night. That puzzle, if you will, had been laid out over a period of years. People could see the changes being made and spoke out! The "problem" was that the Government had the upper hand (so to speak) and the people speaking out...were out numbered and over powered. It was a very well laid out plan that was very well thought out WELL in advance. Nothing came on over night---changes were NOT instant (FAR FROM IT).

So to say that these people had "no opportunity to alter their fate" is not factual.

Then you say (which is once again, in part, less than factual):

"In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses."

Many of the people sent to those camps were very wealthy. They owned property and businesses. They had vast art collections and were some of the best jewelers in the country/Europe. Many were also very well educated---doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc.

What ALL of these people lacked dearest Dave was a GOVERNMENT WITH A BACKBONE! The GOVERNMENT and PEOPLE NOT (I REPEAT NOT) in those camps could have done something. Many a country stood by and WATCHED as MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of people were put to death with gas, starved, beaten or shot to death. PEOPLE and NATIONS ALLOWED it to happen. There were pictures. It was NOT a secret. It went on for YEARS before a country with any power came in and said ENOUGH.

So...had people stood up for their rights and not bought into all of the BS ("a better life/for your own good"), things would have been very different. So please, once again, spare me the "lashing" over how dare I compare what is going on now to the holocaust. I have been told I was wrong by far better than you I am sure.

So, more simple terms for you Dave. Their are "prison camps" being constructed on US soil---to house AMERICANS!!!! It is in print and our own Government admits this. Some are even OPERATIONAL with staff! ADMITS IT DAVE!!! They/OUR Government are 1 by 1 taking away our rights...right under our noses. They/OUR Government are taxing us to death IN THE NAME OF A "BETTER LIFE." So once again Dave---how is this---the acts of today---ANY different than those in history? We are ALLOWING our corrupt, criminal Government to errode our rights away 1 by 1. ALLOWING IT!! Why? Because "IT" will NEVER HAPPEN TO US! Well Dave, it is HAPPENING to us because of millions of people just like YOU. The "it will never happen to us" clan.

And Dave, before you or anybody else attempts to say something like I (OM) blame the people who "went" with the Nazis to their death camps let me just say that was NOT what I said. I BLAME the people who ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN AND DID NOTHING!!! I BLAME their Government who said it was all for a "better life" and that those people would be safe and taken care of. I BLAME ALL of the people who said "it will never happen to us." Now, here we are LESS than 100 years later---AND WE ARE GOING TO DO IT AGAIN but this time on US soil and WE, the tax payers have PAID FOR IT. What a proud day.

I am Jewish. I was born Jewish. I will die Jewish and MY Government will NEVER take me to a camp because my views do not match theirs or my views/opinions are not PC. I will not go quietly and I will not ALLOW my Government to take my rights away without a fight. Over my cold, gun holding/owning, dead body. I know from my aunt and uncle's memory how this is going to play out if we continue down the road we are on. Healthcare reform to make my life better! Please! I already pay for all of the other Government programs that do not work in the name of a "better life."

Wake up Dave. Our own Government is "paving that road to hell with their good intentions" right under your nose and YOU still REFUSE to see what is going on. Good luck with that. I only hope a majority of the world is smarter than you because if not...we are in some real trouble.

Off to my "rocket" in the name of a "better life." My time spent on "stupid" is up for today and their is a loss of IQ points for any "debate" with Dave who has never had an original thought yet. To everyone else, enjoy your day and stay dry.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 10:52 AM

Hard to believe, ain't it Missy?

Well, like I said this morning in our Email...........................

-- Posted by bazookaman on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 7:36 AM

OM: I love your passion. I love the fact that even though it would be so much easier to laugh and say that it just couldn't happen here, you choose to look at everything and pay attention. What keeps coming to my mind is the old saying, The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I certainly think this applies to the healthcare and other policies being thrust upon us in the name of "helping" others. Thanks so much for reading what I write and taking the time to comment. God bless us, everyone!

-- Posted by kimkovac on Fri, Nov 6, 2009, at 6:43 AM

If you're sure it's not good enough, you're right. You failed to provide us with a review of the factual errors in the comment I provided on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM.

To help you out, I've extracted the facts for you.

1.) The people the Nazi's shipped like cattle in boxcars to camps where they were imprisoned, enslaved and murdered had no opportunity to alter their fate. In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses.

2.) The victims of the Nazi's most certainly did not willingly give up their lifes work.

3.) We all know mass murder has been committed by men who were Nazi's, and by socialists and communists, etc.

Now, do you dispute these facts?

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Thu, Nov 5, 2009, at 3:42 PM

Gee Dave, I thought that was just what I had done. As far as any of your "factual errors" are concerned---how do your opinions become "fact?"

As far as the acts of the Nazi party...they did not happen over night! Things were going on prior. Hitler did not just walk in and take over 1 day. He had a plan, filled with promises, etc. and took over. He was a good speaker. Told the people what they wanted or needed to hear at the time in order to do what HE WANTED TO DO. What "they" tell us and what "they" do are normally 2 different things.

As far as your opinions being "factual," I will differ with you on YOUR opinion for the following reasons, which are factaul and based on actual history, as opposed to my opinion.

First. People were in jails (before camps were constructed) under Nazi control as early as 1939 for being PI and not of the "perfect" race (hair color was wrong, too young, eye color wrong, "looked Jewish," etc.) or speaking out against their government or what was going on. There were Mormons, Catholics, Jews, etc. in these jails. Then the camps were constructed because they (the camps) could house more PI/less than "perfect" people than any jail. People were held there for years if they were able to survive. And how about those gas chambers or long lines of people shot to death just because of who they were or what they said or how they looked! All of this went on as bordering lands watched. These people had their rights erroded over time---not in 1 day. I am sure many expected their government to stand up for them and do what was right. Did it happen? Heck no! So, people were taken to these camps with the promise of a "better life." In these camps they were starved, beaten, raped, molested, etc. IN THE NAME OF A "BETTER LIFE."

Are you really too stupid to see how we live, much the same way? Are you really that stupid Dave? Our "rights" are being erroded daily in the name of "A BETTER LIFE." Who is it better for I demand to know?!?!

Do you really think these camps are being built/maintained to house illegals? Really?!?! Or to house people displaced due to natural disasters? Really? People who lived through Katrina really need to be kept behind 15 foot fences with razor wire on top and armed guards. Are these Americans now animals or a dnager because they have no home? NO! Common sense Dave at some point must prevail with you. As for my "twisted" (your word) take on things and the fact that I dare to compare the events of WWII to today...I thank my lucky stars that there are not more people on this planet who think like you. Do you also think that your children should not be taught about the holocaust because it was too ugly? I went to a school like that (in a Chicago suburb), which is why I ask.

How was that for you Dave? Not good enough I am sure. Opinions are NOT facts Dave and history does AND WILL repeat itself because a memory fades over time and the people who lived it die. Keep those rose colored glasses on. The "wackadoos" and "twisted" will protect you when the time comes. Oh wait! You will be with them. Sorry, my error. Once again, our founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves. Change is a given but not like this. I know, I know---it is all for a "better life" but for who?

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Thu, Nov 5, 2009, at 2:04 PM

OM, before we get sidetracked, provide us with a review of the factual errors in the comment I provided on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM.

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Thu, Nov 5, 2009, at 11:40 AM

For Dave! Please tell me how this is ANY different than what the Nazis did? All of those people who were rounded up thought it would NEVER happen and that their Government and military would protect them. Please tell me how the situations of TODAY are ANY DIFFERENT than the crimes which we now refer to as "history." Camps for people displaced by disaster! Please. These camps are in place for 1 reason and 1 reason only---to house Americans who REFUSE to "get with the program" as dictated by the crooks in DC. Many Americans will find themselves "relocated" when they refuse to give up their guns. Others will find themselves in these camps when they do not join on for healthcare. Funny how Obama finds these "camps" so disgusting for his people but for the AMERICANS---IT IS A-OKAY!!!!! Talk about disgusting. Wise up already Dave.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext...

Not like Mike has not posted this before. This lays out the plan for these "emergency" camps. The fine print is what tells the tale because they can/will be used for anything the Government sees fit to use them for. Funny how these FEMA Camps have not been used for the most recent FEMA disasters.

And NOW, as the guy who fell off the roof of a 50-story building is now passing the 15th floor.......he is still muttering......."so far so good.......so far so good!"

They'll see it eventually, Missy. It'll be too late for most of 'em, and a darned rude awakening..........but they'll see it.

I was posting with Censored the other day and we spoke briefly of England. He had visited there, and I was once stationed there. (at Lakenheath).

I just now thought about this: We are American citizens, but to THIS DAY, the Brits are still considered "subjects."

Probably one of the many reasons our founding fathers kicked the Redcoats OUT of here to begin with.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Thu, Nov 5, 2009, at 7:38 AM

OM, time for you to put up some facts or shut up.

Provide us with a review of the factual errors in the comment I provided on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 9:13 PM.

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Wed, Nov 4, 2009, at 9:40 PM

You have to be smart enough and open enough to see it. It is all right under our noses and still many are blind and stupid and say it is not going on (re: Mike's last post and Kim's blogs on these topics). Our Government has more than 80% ownership in AIG. Why? Because of bailouts. Our Government feels the "need" to dictate who will run a company, how much they will be paid and when. If a company does not play by the rules set up by Obama---well, you know the story. Our Government handed out, without rules, regulations, checks/balances RECORD amounts of money to SAVE JOBS! Wow. That worked out well. They took the money and ran and laughed all the way to their bonus check lines. Now "healthcare reform." If you do not "play along" you will be fined.

America, land of the free? Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now.

I am sure Dave will find a nice cut/paste to further explain his ignorance and assinine, factless opinions. Here is one for you Mr. Dave. I am a Jew. I lost family in those camps. I got to hear first hand from my aunt and her husband (who survived) what the WARNING signs were BEFORE they were loaded up. It did NOT happen over night and half the world WATCHED/ALLOWED it to happen. Please spare me your version of history. It is people like you that make the world what it is today---a "new" history lesson that is. As time goes by, lessons are but a memory. History does indeed repeat and it is going on now. Why do you suppose "OUR" Government is building these camps all over the US? Please Dave, your take on things because I need a really good laugh today. I do not have enough stupid people to deal with in my life without your back asswards/warped, cut/paste take on things.

Back to my rocket now.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Wed, Nov 4, 2009, at 9:26 AM

How do you think it STARTED, Dave?

The idea here is to NOT let it turn INTO something. Like a cancer, you GET it BEFORE it spreads.

No by golly...........you're absolutely correct......we AREN'T being rounded up into concentration camps at the moment. (They ARE being planned though................see HR645, sponsored by a (dare I say it.......}

But we ARE seeing government TAKEOVERS, aren't we!

We ARE seeing government movements to SQUELCH FREE SPEECH, aren't we!......(Lloyd & Pelosi)

We ARE seeing VOTER FRAUD, aren't we! (ACORN)

Scanning through the House Bills, we ARE seeing plans to disarm the populace, aren't we! (pick one)

We ARE on tap to be FORCED into buying things whether we want to or not, under threats of fines and other penalties, aren't we! (HCB)

We're seeing the early stages of our CHILDREN being indoctrinated, AREN'T WE! (mmmmm-mmmmm-mmmmm)

"Promises and propaganda" Dave............promises and propaganda.

That's where it ALL GOT STARTED.

If you pour through enough of those links, you might even find some actual history of how that Third Reich came to be.

When you do............if you can STILL look at your government (notice I didn't say "our")......and tell ME you DON'T SEE any patterns here...........at LEAST tell me what you're drinking. I need to order a CASE of it.

Having a discussion about the horrible things that happened to millions of people and seeing what were the warning signs is not disrespecting those victims. Learning from the evil mistakes of the past is not in any way a wrong thing to do. Forgetting them and what they had to suffer would be wrong. Ignoring simple signs in order to prevent the possibility of a repeat is ignorant. Studying the ease in which people were caught up in hysterical evil is important to discovering ways to guard yourselves against becoming another victim. History teaches us. It is a game of knowledge or a game of chance. Is it a game of Risk? I don't think this is a game. I believe that we must look at the past in order to survive the future.

I know that we don't want to think that there are any warning signs that would be similar to the past but the fact remains that if we don't pay attention, then our freedoms will be taken a moment at a time. Freedoms that we have taken for granted so long that we barely noticed when we've been stripped of them. Now I will agree that the possibility of Americans being overthrown to the degree of the German or Russian people, but it is assinine to pretend that we are so "enlightened" that it could never happen to some degree here. No, it is far better to turn away from horror with denial and laughter. That is the way to protect a nation from it's downfall. Look away! Keep saying that I am paranoid or crazy or whatever you need to tell yourself. My bringing up these points serves the purpose intended. Thanks for playing the history game. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. These messages will self-destruct in 5...4...3...2...1.

OM, do you have any idea how much that stings?!

Further up the list of comments on this post, back on Saturday, there was a comment posted by bazookaman that states, "There is little INCENTIVE for ANYBODY to bust their butt "developing skills that benefit industry", when you're just gonna get penalized for it anyway.

Based on that comment, my question asked for examples of "achievers who brought a halt to their achieving ways."

To simplify, I'd like to read of someone who, of their own volition, has taken advantage of the blessings of liberty and passed up a job promotion simply because they'd pay more taxes. Or, someone who completely gave up, quit, pursuit of their life's successful and promising work based solely on their estimation of the amount their tax would be if they continued to prosper.

The people the Nazi's shipped like cattle in boxcars to camps where they were imprisoned, enslaved and murdered had no opportunity to alter their fate. In Germany, they were the victims of systemic discrimination, lacking legal recourse and were not allowed to own property or businesses.

The victims of the Nazi's most certainly did not willingly give up their lifes work.

We all know mass murder has been committed by men who were Nazi's, and by socialists and communists, etc. You and others on this blog have demonstrated a tedious propensity to invoke emotional memories of these horrors, making sophomoric attempts to draw superficial parallels between the issues we face today with the issues faced by the victims of mass murderers.

We are not, by any stretch of the imagination, faced with the situation as those murdered by the Nazi's.

Those of you who rely on such assinine comparisons to further your "arguments" disrespect the memory of every victim of the camps.

Face it, your comparison is twisted.

Now, get back to work on that rocket!

bazookaman, can you provide us with any verifiable examples of achievers who brought a halt to their achieving ways because they had their wealth taken from them and given to bums?

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Sat, Oct 31, 2009, at 9:20 AM

Oh, and Dave, here is another one for you! The Obama administration is ANOTHER perfect example for your question. Now if you are smart enough to figure it out is another question. My money is on NO.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 1:39 PM

DT, you are a jackass. Nice response if that was the best you could do to make the situation "okay." It is well documented in history but I am sure you and many others shall continue with the "new" history lesson to fit your needs. Whatever makes you feel better Dave!

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Tue, Nov 3, 2009, at 1:36 PM

You know, the Nazi's actully DID do that, if you've ever seen the post-war blck & white footage on it.

OM, if you're speaking for bazookaman, you've done him no favors.

I think you've twisted history quite well. In fact, I hope you were sitting down when you wrote that drivel. You've got so many twists in that response you're probably quite dizzy. Don't tip over!

By chance, are you that well known woman who John McCain had to take the microphone from during one of his town hall meetings?

-- Posted by Dave Thompson on Sat, Oct 31, 2009, at 9:20 AM

YES---the Nazis. They took art, money, jewels, gold teeth (fillings) and THEIR (all of the people who went to the camps/were killed that is) wealth and it was given to "bums" and killers. How was that for an example "Mr. Thompson?" Let us see how you twist that to fit your needs.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Mon, Nov 2, 2009, at 4:33 PM

Although I've worked a lot of years SINCE, I made a 22-year career of serving in two different branches of the military.

To make a VERY SHORT story here.........I didn't exchange fire with communists, take bullets, breathe Agent Orange.............then spend ANOTHER 19 years freezing from the cold on flightlines from here to England to Korea........sacrificing unrefundable time with my family, for a pension you can't live on.....................

...............just to see this country turned over to the U.N. by this socialist/communist government.

They don't have a RIGHT to take ANTHING YOU have or I have..............and just give it to somebody else.

And Dave, NOBODY has a "career" under Marx. You own NOTHING and the STATE has priority over your labors..............not you.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sun, Nov 1, 2009, at 6:22 PM

At some level it is a contradiction for anyone who determines a career path based on their estimation of the amount of taxes they'll have to pay the government, rather than basing their decision on what they truly want to do in their life's work.

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Sun, Nov 1, 2009, at 9:57 AM

No...............but it IS human nature.

All through school and when you were growing up, you were always told that if you studied hard..........applied yourself, you could be a success

If Mom told you and your brother to clean the garage and you could both have money for the movies and stay up late on the weekend...................

DAVE works his butt off..............Dave's BROTHER does nothing.

Mom sees the entire garage clean and rewards you BOTH equally, but it was YOU that had to carry the load.

And say it was ALWAYS like this............How much longer is DAVE gonna keep busting his butt?

Kind of reminds me of the state job, where there are 4 or 5 guys standing around leaning on their shovels, when only ONE guy is doing all the work.

Up-to-date now...............Obama wants to spread the wealth.

He and all his Democrat followers want to "tax the rich"

The top 1% of the "rich" in this country ALREADY pay about 40% of the tax burden.

NOW they want to tax them even more, including insurance penalties, EPA penalties, and all kinds of other MANDATED things

This also effects small businesses, that actually MAKE UP about 85% of the entire work force, who don't HAVE all the money WalMart has, and MICRON has, and CHEVRON has........and will HAVE to lay-off to survive.

This will affect TOMORROW'S "Leaders", Dave. When a kid going to school sees his mom & dad sacrificing to provide a house and food on the table, then looks next door to a family of people who have made welfare a way of life, and are GIVEN everything to live on.............whether they're in this country legally or not...........

WHAT is "little Johnny's" incentive to go out and break HIS back as well, when he can look next door and see there's a much easier way. It;s human nature.

If you have worked hard to achieve, and you've reaped some rewards for it............YOU have EARNED it.

If you want to "spread that wealth" with those "C" and "D" students.......who did "just enough to pass"............well then, that's your business, God Bless and have a nice life.

But YOUR success story is YOURS. Not the government's. Any decisions to "spread YOUR rewards or wealth".........should be YOUR decision, not the GOVERNMENT'S!

Am I missing something here?

If I want to donate money of MY FREE WILL to the Orphange for Stray Cats in South Hampton, England, I can do that. But NOT with our tax dollars!

I DON'T want the governemnt spending one penny of my tax dollars for these "worldwide humanitaran programs."................and neither should YOU.

No, I don't have time to look up links all day, so I cannot give you any specifics, by name, unless you want to use DAVE and BAZOOKAMAN.

I believe you and I have BOTH achieved some things in our lifetimes. Would you agree?

As long as EACH of us has worked, we've had money INVOLUNTARILY taken from us that has been used to support those who won't work....those here illegally, and THOUSANDS of government projects that NEITHER ONE of us would donate to.

And just because they are ALREADY "spreading our wealth"................doesn't make it "OK" to CONTINUE it.......while they steadily strive for more!

Hell.............I KNEW I shouldn't have turned this thing "ON" this morning. Should have gone straight for coffee.

I suppose the damned phone'll ring next with some telemarketer at the other end..............or somebody'll come to the door and I'll NEVER get out of here this morning!

later y'all, I'm outta here!

There is little INCENTIVE for ANYBODY to bust their butt "developing skills that benefit industry", when you're just gonna get penalized for it anyway. Under the socialst government system, wealth is taken from the achievers and spread amongst the bums.

"Tax the rich.........tax the rich........tax the rich." Hammer the large and small businesses alike. Then THEY have to lay people off, putting them on unemployment and welfare.

Who do you suppose pays for THAT?

If they want to "tax the RICH", maybe they ought to start with Soros, Bloomberg, Pelosi, Feinstein, Dodd, Rangel and Tax Cheat Geithner who also heads the Internal Robbing Service.

Yeah..............maybe let's start with THEM!

I'm with Limbaugh on THIS one. If monetary theft is truly a crime, a good portion of Congress should be in the slammer with Madoff.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sat, Oct 31, 2009, at 9:14 AM

OM, why did you borrow money from or deposit money with your bank? Why do you feel the federal government need to get involved in your business now? The state government is there to render aid if you feel you've been defrauded. Just call the Idaho Attorney General and make your case clear. It works. Really. As far as jobs go, we have to ask ourselves the basic question, What marketable skills do I have to offer an employer? Have I attempted to continue devoloping skills that would benefit a competetive employer in order to secure and maintain a position in today's dynamic work environment? We can't expect to kick back and remain securely employed in a stagnant industry that has no competitors. I understand there may be opportunities in the nuclear power and alternative energy industries in the local area. These may not be palatable options, but considering the other industry that the area has been able to lure in over, say, the last quarter century (where can a guy get a hamburger or a pizza or a sub, or buy some cheap Chinese made goods for a buck in this town?) we may have to leave our oasis.

I read about the Political Interpretations of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz over 25 years ago in an article in The Missoulian, the daily newspaper in Missoula, Montana. I thought it was interesting and over the years I'd looked for similar articles and was never lucky enough to find one. Your post reminded me of the original article and yesterday I was fortunate enough to find that link. Until I had read that article in the Missoulian, I had never thought of the WWofOZ as a political statement. I appreciate the contrasts between the political interpretations and the more traditional interpretation of the story. Particularly considering how the political interpretations offer an insight into Baum's harsh criticism of many of the institutions of his day, and how the more popular interpretation is to encourage us to appreciate that which we have! Funny how things are interpreted isn't it dude?

-- Posted by DaveThompson on Sat, Oct 31, 2009, at 6:43 AM

Mr. Dave Thompson with your links! I have never read anything like that, comparing the Oz to politics. I just happen to love the story and when I was writing the previous blog about who is the power behind Obama, it just came to me. I could see the OZ huge face and the curtain. That story is a wonderful tale. Once I thought about it more, it just seemed to fit. How we are dazzled by illusions. How we don't realize how wonderful something is until it is gone. I think everyone can relate to the story so I thought it would get people thinking about home and what that means. I wanted to inspire us all to appreciate and see that we are the great and powerful in our own lives. That we can find our way back home. I didn't know that others made it a intellectual thing-politics and OZ. Actually, I should feel complimented that you would think I was so smart. Really, it just grew as I wrote it and I didn't even post the whole thing, for space sake. Did you not like the story? Or were you so caught up in trying to figure out what I was saying that you missed what the story was saying to you? Relax, dude. Just enjoy the tale and allow yourself to dream about home.

They must have included in that number the record number of people (jobs created) to "support" Obama (which Kim has done a story or 2 on) and all of the people hired to "support" the Mrs. That is not job creation, it is fraud against those of us that pay taxes. Makes me want to throw up frankly.

Ethics investigation! It should not be just 30 of them----IT SHOULD BE ALL OF THEM!!!!!!

What a joke. Ethics in our Congress and other elected officials in DC.

I want a better President. Just a regular guy who knows what it is like to really work for a living. Someone who has had their pay cut but hours increased. Someone who does the right thing and will stand up for the things he/she believes in no matter the cost. Some integrity would be nice as well (a lot of backbone if you will). A person who knows what a budget is----a real budget that is. If you only have a million dollars to spend...than that is ALL you spend. Just because you can print money does not mean you should or that is a way to pay the bills.

We need to get back to the basics! No healthcare plan until the budget is balanced. No more "government" (taxpayer) programs until our (the debt of Congress/the President(s)) debt is paid off. No more credit for Congress and hair brained ideas/wants when we cannot pay for it. That is how it works for those of us REAL people out there and our Government should be NO different.

I want the spending to stop. I want the banks to lower my interest rates back down to what they were when I signed on. I want the jobs that were promised that have yet to be (and I am sure never will be). I want our current Congress replaced with honest, hard working, "regular" Joe and Jane. I want the banks who took money from ME to live up to their agreements. I want the bailouts to stop because nobody is helping US and they are screwing all of us. I want the huge checks/pay/bonus bucks to stop to CEO's who have done a really crappy job (which is why they need bailouts). I want honesty in Government and some integrity with a lot of accountability to the people. No more travel to other countries on OUR dime. OUR country is in crisis----IF YOU CANNOT FIX US...HOW IN THE HECK CAN YOU "FIX" ANYBODY ELSE. Charity begins at home. Spend more time in the office here working on our problems and to HECK with the UN and the rest of that CRAP!

I hope these shoes Kim speaks of work! Because so far, I am in the same place as 10 minutes ago. Maybe Nancy could use some new red shoes to wear on that jet we bought her and pay for her to use. Obama said Chrysler and GM should give up their jets...SO SHOULD HE AND NANCY. Enough is enough. This is bull. All of it.

-- Posted by OpinionMissy on Fri, Oct 30, 2009, at 10:14 AM

I want to go back to the 50's or 60's, 'cause I don't even REMOTELY recognize this country anymore.

I want my old Chevy, I want to cruise Highway 1 again down the Coast Highway from Half Moon Bay to Carmel, on a starlit night, sipping on an RC Cola, dice swinging from the rearview mirror, and Wolfman Jack howling on the radio.

Screw this 21st Century crap.

Nothing makes sense to me anymore. Nothing.

I've lived in Mtn Home for over 20 years. I love my city and my country. Since I am a writer, my decision to blog here seemed appropriate. I enjoy acting so I've been blessed with the opportunity to work on some independent films and with Prairie Dog Productions and Bogus Creek Ranch. I hope that something I have to write about has some value for others or just amuses someone.
