A new reality showPosted Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 10:32 AM
They may need to make some changes and consider making it something else. Hey, I've got it! It could be a debtor's prison. Yes, instead of declaring bankruptcy, the gov't could put them in jail. Then they can have all kinds of finance programs to rehabilitate them into the debt-free financially responsible citizens they should be. Wow, what an idea for a reality show, huh? Instead of contestants being left on a desert island or made to lose weight, we could have a group go through debt training and nobody leaves jail until they have paid off their debt. In order to pay off your debt, in prison, they must graduate from finance class, develop a business that can be done while locked up, perhaps forming little companies together that compete. They would have to make these companies profitable and be able to make the money needed to pay off their debt. While doing that, there could be contests, like the Apprentice, so that the company that makes the most profit that week, get's privileges like an extra helping of gruel, dessert and a movie, a visit from family, a weekend pass etc... The worst group don't get elimination but instead have to go to the losers cell block where all you get to eat is bread and water and you are forced to do all the manual labor for the other groups. What an idea! As a debt-criminal, you could be forced to become debt-free or rot in jail with no dessert, forced to be servants to others. Now there's a motivator! It has so much potential for drama and comedy. I'm starting to like this idea so much that I'm thinking that I want to be sent there. I could handle that! I could walk out of prison debt-free and ready to take on anything. I think I will pitch this idea. What do you think? I've lived in Mtn Home for over 20 years. I love my city and my country. Since I am a writer, my decision to blog here seemed appropriate. I enjoy acting so I've been blessed with the opportunity to work on some independent films and with Prairie Dog Productions and Bogus Creek Ranch. I hope that something I have to write about has some value for others or just amuses someone.

It's a know fact that Most people file for bankruptcy because of Medical Debt.........
this writer has way to much time on her hands
If you think medical debt is high NOW........wait until it's "FREE"
Nah, Tolkien. I don't have enough time. Most of the time I have to write these blogs in the early hours about 5:30am or late at night. I usually have to do alot of reading before I can write anything that is serious. So I read and then write it in Word and save it. I may not have time to post it until the next morning or even a few days later. When I do finally get it copied on here, I usually take the time to read it which also means I may have to correct some minor grammar or I add more. My days from 7:30am until late in the evening are too busy to allow any writing. Hence the reason I don't think I will ever get the "Great American" novel completed before I am cynile or lost in old-timers lah-lah land. Sad but true. However, after I am mentally gone, maybe someone will find it and get it published for me.
You do a fine job, too, Kim. I for one, appreciate the research work you do and your dedication to getting it out "Like it is." As Sean would say, "You're a great American."
Wow, thanks, Bazookaman.
Medical bills, barring new health care regulations, can drown someone. My credit was shot at age 18 because I had a ruptured appendix and was minutes from dying. $15000 later, my credit history went down the toilet. It was not ignorance on my part. There was no predicting nor preventing it. That matter aside, I would find that reality show rather amusing.
If you'd known ahead of time, you could have just walked into an emergency clinic, and pointed to your side. When the doctor asked you what was wrong, you could have just cried out "NO HABLA"........
Treatment would have been free, and they might have signed you up for food stamps on your way out.
Seriously, I'm glad they GOT to you in time. You know, maybe if they could somehow put all the tax dollars they nornally waste on foreign aid and "crap" projects, into a general health fund, that would probably be ENOUGH to cover everyone without a dime more in taxes. This government blows our illegal-gotten tax dollars, like there was going to be no tomorrow.
How many people besides YOU, could have gotten operations with just the tax dollars they've spent to build the "tunnels for turtles"
$600.00 would pay your rent and put food on your table for a month. In GOVERNMENT hands, it would buy ONE ballpeen hammer.
This is why I've emphasized GOVERNMENT CONTROLLING THEIR OWN SPENDING, so often in these past blogs. True, we all need to watch it, but the government is by FAR the greatest offenders.
If Twilcox wanted to spend $38.00 apiece for inch and a quarter ball-lock screws, that's HIS money and HIS business.
When the Department of Defense is allowed to spend that much for hundreds of thousands of them, THAT is OUR money and OUR business.
Fraud, waste and abuse ALONE, would probably be enough to cover as ALL, medically.
this is not to rationalize their ignorant ways but Govt. at all levels does not have the incentives that everyone else has. In personal life and in business, we are motivated by prices. Lower being better. Price could be money, time, stress, resources, personal connections. Anything that you have to expend to get the job done. Govt. on the other hand does not care if things are cheaper or more efficient in most cases. I could go on for hours about this but this is where the supposed transparency of govt. gets called onto the carpet (or however you phrase that term). If govt. was truly transparent, they would be accountable for wasteful or inefficient expenditures and so the incentives would change.
Well............and wasn't "transparency" pounded again and again during the campaign?
