The revitalization meeting came, but I did not go

The Revitalization meeting in Glenns Ferry came but I elected to stay home, watch Knight Rider and keep my nose out of it.

The reasons are many I did not go, none the least was the thought that if I did go I would open mouth insert foot and say something that would further make me a anti conformist of the town although I'm proud of that label.

Small towns like Glenns Ferry, and no I do not hate the town, in fact I chose to move here. But small towns like Glenns Ferry do not really want to grow bigger. Most of the people here are retired, want the town to remain small and not create much if anything new.

This is not a bad thing, but growth is a lip service venture to get state and Federal funds that are used for other things besides growth.

For Glenns Ferry to really grow would take the entire city council including mayor to be voted out of office and not kill the messenger or creator of things they do not understand but still would give the tiny town a kick in its behind, and its who cares attitude.

Talk was not too long ago about a Maverick ,( yes I like Maverick stores,) store coming to Glenns Ferry. That did not take place due to zoning problems. Zoning my 6, the real reason? Some local merchant said I can't compete against that , don't let it happen. Such is small town politics. Heck I'm surprised we have cable TV here. Let alone cable internet access. Which by the highway I subscribe and use both.

The bottom line, growth will come to Glenns Ferry, but sadly it will come long after I'm no longer living here. I have grown to acustomed to 24/7 stores, Home Depot's Lowes, Wal-Mart's and other things. My biggest mistake ? Not looking over the town more before I moved from Pocatello, and letting some idiots push me out of there. The other big mistake, not taking my own inner feelings into account and moving back to the Burley area, still small but has all the goodies.

Now what? The answer in my next Blog

Do I need to come back and start being a watchdog again? We didn't push you out of Pocatello, but you sure did wear out your welcome. It looks as if you've already done the same thing in Glenns Ferry. I said I'd stay retired unless you got mean again. You're getting mean again. If you don't want me back full time, change the attitude, and change it quickly. It was only 20 days ago that you posted your blanket appology. 2 and a half weeks and you're up to the same old tricks.

If the people of Glenns Ferry have any degree of common sense, they'll STAY small.

When i first moved to Mountain Home in 1972, it was a little "Mayberry"...........today, it's almost another Meridian. "Progress" has been gradually turning this town into a pool of congestion, overcrowding and increasing crime.

Stick to your guns down there, folks!
