Can Glenns Ferry catch up to the 21st Century?Posted Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 7:39 PM
It is excpected that nearly 9 million households nationwide will have their TV's go dark after the Feb 2009 deadline which is what happened when CH-7 did the test even though I am hooked to RTC Cable of Glenns Ferry,CH-7 went dark. The results from a Nielsen survey says that rural areas are feared to be the wost in conversion turnover. Most TV's here except for those hooked up to the Dish Network via satellite, DirecTV as well as most of the local TV stations are purtty much ready for the switch, but translators and lower signal stations are not yet capable. More over many are not yet well informed enough to go get the anolog to digital converter they will need when February 2009 rolls around. Might seem a long way off but it ain't really. When it comes to RTC of Glenns Ferry, I'm still waiting for an upper tier converter from so I can get the Speed Channel. Okay then too, RTC has the abiity to generate at least a good extra $5,000.00 a month or more by including local advertising, on its cable system. Guess what ? Am still waiting for the return phone call from Mr. Martel. No I'm not interested in buying the cable system, as that might mean I'd have to settle down here. Which sadly will not happen, I'm just here to finish fixing my rigs, get a vector on my next location, and get things going that way, where-ever that might be. However when it comes to RTC we have cable Internet Access , how about Cable phone access in GF? There is no WIFI in Glenns Ferry, which again begs the question can or will Glenns Ferry catch up to the 21st century. Perhaps; when we reach the 22nd centure. Let the Force be with you. if you're so concerned with companies offering up to date technology to improve service for their customers then why is your truck 30 years old and not capable of safely and quickly servicing most all of the modern cars and trucks that are on the road today? I am also most curious to see what the truck actually looks like without crude digital enhancement. Just a thought.
I think we all understand that you are not that fond of Glenns Ferry. Here is some advice, make the best of where you are while you are there. Negativity only begets negativity so it might help improve your situation if you tried to more positive. While I do not live in Glenns Ferry, I have been there many times and have found the people to be warm and friendly. Maybe if you let some of that rub off on you, your outlook on life there will change. But if it does not, could you see fit to do the rest of us a huge favor and try to keep your rants in check a little.
Is $5,000 your magic number? You forecast that RTC Cable could produce revenue of that much, last week you put $5,000 in a new roof for someone else's property that you LEASE...... Last week you were staying just as long as the lease, earlier this week you stated you weren't going anywhere for a long long time....... Are you staying or are you going?
Oh yea it's Pretty much ready not purtty much ready. While I am typing, I would really like to help you improve your digital skills...... set your camera to the highest resolution it can be set at..... image quality at the highest.... it is better to get 2 really good clear photos on your camera than it is 20 really crappy ones......... oh if you are scanning the photo please set the dpi (dots per inch) to no less than 300. That will really clear up that pixelation problem you have with most every image.....Shoot high res, you can always change it later........
My question is why would you spend $5,000 on roofing someone else's property??? That's a here's your sign!!!! Think about it, are you really going to recoup the $5,000, with the savings in rent. You know on second thought, I would like my driveway paved, care to rent my driveway to park your truck (great advertising spot, lots of traffic)plus you could pay to pave my driveway that way your truck would look even better on a nice new driveway. I figure $5,000 is a good number to pay for the paving.........
I would like to add, that perhaps $5,000 would probably finance a pretty sweet hot spot in downtown Glenns Ferry! You could be the proprietor and get in on all of that great advertising.
I'd bet you could cover all of downtown and a good bit of the residential are of GF. You would be really helping out the truckers, whom you mentioned in the past, that would really benefit from your new public service.
I could well imagine that Mr. Martell would be willing to provide you with high speed broadband.
Of course, not for free.
