Some have said I live in the 1980's. While that period of time was good to me sort of, I live more for the future than the past, although my own business is one of restoration of old trucks etc. But that's getting away from the point here. That all said, I was greatly surprised to see and its a good thing, but I was happily surprised to see our county law enforcement officers still have a CB in their cars and really have them on and listen. Which means, have a problem on the big road? Help is as close as that old CB. Citizens Band Radio is still free, still works and I don't know a heap amount of long or even short haul truckers who don't have one in the truck. Sure the Trucking industry has GPS to locate trucks, drive by or pass by devices that allows for faster movement through the chicken coops(weigh stations) cell phones, on board computer systems and so on, but one only needs to turn on a cb at the house or in your ride and that good old CB is just a jawing away. Which is a good thing. Any mile the thing is how long will it be before the CB is regulated? Given our current diaper rash of over government regulations? Last but not least, I'll be gone for a few days this week to Reno for a tow show. Love to see the new tech stuff for us going towing. And this week end a very special reunion takes place in Glenns Ferry at my shop, here.

There was a time users were required to obtain a CB Radio license and call letters from the FCC to operate a CB Radio. However, the FCC was so inundated with requests for CB Radio licenses that they finally abandoned formal licensing and allowed operators to buy CB Radio equipment and go on the air without any license or call letters. (that was back in the 70's)
Although no license is required to operate a CB Radio, FCC Laws Part 95, Subpart D, which contains the FCC's rules for CB Radio operation, are still in effect. These rules cover CB Radio equipment, the ban on linear amplifiers, and the types of communications permitted on the air.
You blog was as if there was No current regulation hence "Any mile the thing is how long will it be before the CB is regulated? Given our current diaper rash of over government regulations?"
I really doubt that the current or future adminstrations are too worried about collecting a CB fee from truckers...... it certainly is not as popular as it was in the 60's to the 80's..... administration cost would out weigh the amount of revenue....
Oh yea, I drive a car and an RV...... I currently don't have a CB. I drive daily with your professional drivers........ wow, some seem too busy talking on those radios than watching what the heck they are doing..... whether its a cb or cell phone its a distraction.. you must admit that.
I do have add also, that I have had fewer RV's make illegal lane changes than truckers.... while I was driving in my car.... I have seen my fair share of stupid drivers... from cars to RV's to Big Rigs......... there is certainly a bell curve among all of them
