The Nuke plant is a much bigger issue than any new jail or school bond, and the citizens at least got to VOTE on those.
This Nuke plant NEEDS to be on a BALLOT, and let the 16,000 people who have to live in this community decide. It should not be "eased under the door by a council of a half-dozen.
"Town hall meetings are nothing more than lip service............Every registered voter on Elmore County should be allowed to decide....whether we do or whether we don't.
You can BET Gillispie doesn't want that, and neither does his shyster lawter from the pan handle.............NEITHER of whom has to live here later.
It's all about money...but if we're still living in anything that resembles a democracy, the CITIZENS should be allowed to vote on this.
If this got onto a ballot, the public would probably hand Gillispie and Jerry Mason (lawyer/"moderator" their hats.
I strongly suspect the moneymakers behind this plant DON'T WANT it coming to a vote. I wrote a letter to Planning & Zoning requesting permission to bring the subject up at a meeting. (You can't speak without "clearance" at these town meetings.........."Seich Heil!")............I'd be genuinely surprised if they even allow me to come, let alone, bring up such a repulsive subject as a "ballot."
Personally, (and I truly hope I'm wrong), I think this is a "done deal." We'll see.
First off, in the opinion of many around here (myself included), Idaho has more than enough wind to turn the windmills.
Second, one of the more recent sites AREVA manaages in France is ALREADY leaking, so if Gillispie wants a Nuke plant, let him build it in his OWN backyard.
MY main thing, is the way it is trying to be slipped under the door on us.
Town Hall meetings are little more than window dressing in Elmore County.............Oh sure, we'll have FOUR of them, but THEY get to pre-approve what the public is allowed to speak on.
If after it's all over, the Council decides to approve it, they will simply defend it with "Well...we DID have open meetings on it."..............Case closed.
THAT's why it NEEDS to be on a ballot, but you can bet it WON'T be.
I personally do not know enough about nuclear power to offer an educated opinion.......as the old adage goes, "If you don't know what you're talking about, SHUT UP!".........and I AM, on that portion.
But I, like many, feel this is being "slipped past us" with as little fanfare as possible.
If we are to end up with this thing, I'd like it to be because the CITIZENS of this County want it....not because a half dozen sitting on a panel do..............it's called Democracy.
