Some Random Thoughts and Observations

-Spring is officially here, the garderners trimmed the hedges today and painted the gate.
-People don't stare at me on the train anymore, I was probably just drawing more attention at first because I was nervous.
-No matter the socio-economic status or political sittuation, peole live just the same- it's life.
-I am not a tourist anymore, I am a student and life has settled into a routine. I even get bored every once in awhile (never thought I could get bored in a forgein environment) just like back home- its life.
- MUSIC: Everywhere music demonstrates a clear line of the generation gap. For example, here there is Reggaeton (like rap kind of) and electronica that the young people like, it unites us, but destinguishes us because older people can not stand it (usually). Just like the pop and rap back home grates at my parents ears. However, the youth usually like the music of their parents. I love classic rock and so do most of my friends, Chilean and Gringo. So we have twice as much enjoyable variety of music than older people. Haha! What I'm really getting at is that it gives my generation a common bond that crosses cultural boundaries.
-Living in an appartment complex is just like living in a beehive, but bees polinate flowers, help the organisms, environment around them and excrete sweet, delicious honey, but what do humans excrete in their appartment/beehives? Do humans really have a beneficial relationship with the organisms and environment around them? NO. We kill bees with fly swatters.
-I have had a cough ever since I have been living in the city that goes away when I am in the country side. I have never lived in a big city before and I am not accustomed to the concentrated air pollution.
-Palm trees are nice, but sometimes I really miss sagebrush.
-Everywhere in the world people are welcoming and friendly, but nothing can replace the value of my family and homeland. I love my friends here, but nothing can fill the same place in my heart.
-I am so happyin in Chile I will cry when I leave. Bittersweet- Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

About "MUSIC" point!
I heard many kinds of music: classical, pop, rock, reggaeton, electronics, rap ... many types!
There is a type of music, Chilean (100% Chilean) which has not been mentioned in your text. If you like poetry, lyrics, I think you can hear something and you enjoy it. If poetry in Chile is "Gabriela Mistral" and "Pablo Neruda" in music is possible to speak of "Violeta Parra" or "Victor Jara" for example.
For example, there is a song of Violeta Parra called: "Gracias a la Vida". The lyrics of that song is pure poetry. Here is a version of a song performed by Joan Baez (a singer of your country!, she is from New York, her father is from Mexico and her mother from Scotland). (¡ADORO el acento que tiene al cantar!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDDHFyI_A...
Violeta Parra, a simple woman, an artist, very smart, doing an interview in the next video. She is speaking in French: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRpCDnXyH...
Less "Folk" and more "Rock": there is a group called "Lucybell". This song is called "Miracle", presentation of the year 2007 at the Festival in Viña del Mar!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QDm65BnP...
Finally, another very-Chilean group, fine poetry. The group is called "Illapu", is from Northern Chile, the video is recorded in the north, near a city called "Antofagasta". This group has played in many places: Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid, Brussels, Stockholm, etc... The song is called: "Que Broten las Palabras". The lyrics is simply superb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCMvAd5JN...
I hope you like it. It is music of Chile. A very SMALL part of the Chilean music. "Reggaeton" or "Electronica" is another kind of musical expression, but it really is not music born in Chile.
Viva Chile ;-)
