Has anyone seen my glasses?Posted Monday, August 25, 2008, at 6:07 PM
Excuse any typos because I just wasted an hour frutilesly searching trains and the train station for my glasses that are probably smashed or some childs new toy by now. Thankfully I have an old pair tucked away in my drawer at the house. So if you see me tomorrow, dont say "Oh Tara, you must have found your glasses." Because I did not. They are the exact same frames. So much for all the embarassment of frantically scrambeling through all the coaches (could not remember where I sat) asking every passenger if they'd found any glasses in my thickly accented Spanish.
Well anyway, aside from that, the past couple of days have been a lot of ups and downs. On Friday I went back to the civil registry for the fourth time attempting to get my ID card, but once again got turned away because there are problems with my visa. The process was all hung up because when I came through the airport they accidently stamped "leaving" instead of "incoming" on all my documents. So today I went back again with all the paper work, went through the whole process again!!! and hopefully I wont have anymore problems when I go back AGAIN to pick up my ID card in two weeks. Saturday night I went out dancing with a group of friends and it was soooo much fun! Have I ever mentioned how great the public transportation system is? Well at the bus stop we all waited together and as the different busses passed by to different sectors, the group thined down to just Kelsey, Felipe and me (we live near eachother). Finally we spotted a bus which goes by both our houses. It took me a second to realize that the people at the back of the bus werent dancing. There were actually 5 or 6 people beating the daylight out of some poor soul crouched down on the back seat- throwing punches, stomping, kicking... the poor thing must have been on the edge of death already, but they didnt stop. There was no way I was getting on that bus even if I had to wait an hour for the next one to pass by. The most shocking thing was that the bus driver didnt do a thing. He just stopped for awhile trying to get more passengers, then drove on. But as Felipe later explained to me (Felipe is Kelsey's host brother) the bus drivers cant do anything in sittuations like that or else they'll get beat up too. I have been surrounded with so many good people lately I almost forgot there are bad people, very wicked people, in all parts of the world. After that scene there was no way I could walk home from the bus stop alone, so my friends let me stay the night at their house, but they dont have a spare bedroom, so Felipe let me sleep in his bed while he slept on the couch. There are definately always the extremes in life and I am thankful that my friends are on the extremely amazing side. I cant stop praying for that poor person who probably got beat to death in public- but what can you do when you see something like that? I woke up around one in the afternoon, went home and got ready to go to the beach with Kelsey, Felipe and another friend. Now that was a great time- picnic, kite flying, running down sand dunes, wading in the sea... ahhh now I'm day dreaming of the sea! Yes, as Kelsita says, I'm always checking your blog, not everyday, but quite frequently. I think your comments are very interesting (all of them!). Quoting "Crazyjumper": "Don't forget the south of Chile"... yes, the northern Chile is very different to the south and the center. All places have something interesting. If you can travel away from the Region of Valparaiso, is absolutely advisable.

Dancing people on the back of the bus? hahahaha, I'm sorry, I know that it was an odd and extreme situation but that comment was just crazy :D poor guy... You know, in chile they have a word for those kind of felons, its "flaites" or something like that.
Don't forget the south of chile :) I didn't travel to the north while I was there, but after reading your comments I'm definitely thinking about a second trip.
