Couples Retreat

Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau and Jason Bateman travel to an exotic island to help save their marriages in "Couples Retreat."

In the film, directed by Peter Billingsley (Ralph from "A Christmas Story"), Jason (Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) are a married couple on the verge of a divorce. In efforts to save their marriage, they book a vacation to a couples therapy retreat, called "Eden."

To save money, they convince their friends Dave (Vaughn) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman), Joey (Favreau) and Lucy (Kristen Davis), and recently divorced Shane (Faizon Love) and his girlfriend Trudy (Kali Hawk) agree).

On their first night, the couples are informed that they must engage in the couples therapy sessions of the trip or must return home, after some reluctance they decide to take part along with enjoying the benefits of the island.

The couples also deal with the outlandish methods of the resort owner Marcel (Jean Reno) that includes swimming with sharks and yoga sessions with muscle-bound instructor Salvadore (Carlos Ponce).

This premise is a little more believable then Vaughn's last film, "Four Christmases", it was quite hilarious, the chemistry between each of the couples were good on screen and Vaughn who is one of the best comedic actors today, delivers a solid performance, although is it just me or does he seem like the same character in all of his movies.

The supporting roles were good, from the male roles of Favreau and Bateman (who was way more funnier than in his lead role in the absolute bomb "Extract") and of the female roles Kristen Davis, Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman who I think is the next big actress in Hollywood.

Also, where was this island, man it was so eye-catching on screen, I want to see this place for myself.

Overall, this movie really doesn't match with the best comedies of the year like "I Love You, Man" or "The Hangover", but in my opinion this is movie is better, almost underrated as opposed to what the critics are saying.

Next time on Reel Revue, will be my reviews for "Law Abiding Citizen" starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx and "Zombieland" starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin.
