Vick signs with the Eagles; Tiger chokes at the PGA ChampionshipPosted Monday, August 17, 2009, at 3:25 PM
Of all the teams, that were discussed to sign the former Atlanta Falcon, included the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Carolina Panthers and for a short while, my team the San Francisco 49ers. (WHY!!!!!, why did we not sign him?) When I heard the news on ESPN, I was so shocked, I personally never expected the Eagles to take the chance at signing Vick, but since they have been struck with multiple injuries including backup quarterback and potential future starter Kevin Kolb, the Eagles acted fast and signed Vick to a two year deal. My problem, with this is how will this not cause any controversy, Donovan McNabb stated in a press conference, that he is not worried, that will be the starting quarterback for the team. But if the Eagles, start the season like 0-2 or 0-3, the possibility of Eagles fans wanting Vick will take over. Although, at the Eagle's practice facility, Eagles fans have come out with anti-Vick posters and jerseys. This may not be a smooth transition for the player, who at one time was the highest paid player in NFL history, but in life everyone deserves a second chance, sure what he was did was inhumane and I am not a supporter in what Michael Vick did or took part in, but he has paid his debt to society and should get the chance to redeem himself. How will the rest of his NFL career play out, in my opinion, if he comes back to be the Michael Vick of old, then forget Kolb, and since McNabb has yet to sign his contract extension, Vick could end up the permanent starter for the Eagles. Well folks, it's official, Tiger Woods is human after all, but what a collapse, taking a three stroke lead into the final round of the PGA Championship last Sunday, and then end up losing to an unknown player Y.E. Yang by two strokes. Woods who was seeking his third straight event victory (won both the Buick Open and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational prior to the event), was attempting to avoid his first year without winning a major since 2004, had the momentum in his favor until one missed put after another on Sunday cost him his last chance to win a major this year. Some may say, this hasn't been a successful year for Tiger, but with five victories (no majors), while the remaining players in the field had no more than two victories, this is more like a comeback, a rebuilding year for the world's top golfer. A comeback from his torn ACL injury, not to mention a miraculous victory at last year's Masters while injured. "This guy does things that are just not normal by any stretch of the imagination,"said runner-up Rocco Mediate after the Masters, Kenny Perry added, "he beat everybody on one leg." Has Tiger Woods lost his edge, no way, he's Tiger Woods, where would golf be without Tiger Woods? In many discussions on ESPN, there are talks before every tournament, on who they would take to one Tiger or the field (that includes guys like Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh or Padraig Harrington). Tiger will be back to form, and continue to bring the excitement and all-around talent, that keeps the fan on the edge of their seats. I guess Favre got jealous since he wasn't the lead story. I pity the Vikings this year; there will probably be a lot of malcontent in that locker room this year.
I hope you're wrong, MM. I want my team (the Vikes) to take it all the way this year. Favre gives us another reason to watch the Vikings beside AP and their great defensive line.
BB,
I hope I'm wrong too: I know quite a few Vikings fans. However, Favre is a self-centered egotist who loves the drama and limelight. I just think his aura is going to bring dissention.
boomerbeth: If he brings wins to the team he will be the talk of the state. If he doesn't I'm sure he will be booed out of the state. Not sure he will even start, but the Packers game with them should be good if he does play against them. Maybe revenge is a part of his comeback reasoning.
Skeeter, you're probably right. If nothing else, its for sure he has helped the Vikes financially already. I know someone who scored tickets for the Nov 22th Vikings-Seattle game in Minneapolis before it was announced Favre would play for the team. The day after it was announced those same tickets tripled in price.
