MTV Movie Awards vs. Oscars

Sure the Oscars are considered the Big Show, but I think to most people the MTV Movie Awards, really acknowledge the films that we as a public spend our $9 ticket, $5 popcorn, and $3 soda on.

The categories may seem off the wall like Best Kiss, Best Fight, Best Summer Movie So Far and Best Villain, but that's what makes the show entertaining. Besides it's not like the big stars don't come out for the MTV awards.

The MTV Awards also has something the Oscars don't is comedy. Sure Jon Stewart was great hosting this year, but no award show, would have their host (this year was Mike Myers), play characters like a pet wrangler with a hoof for an arm or better yet reunite with Dana Carvey to do a hysterical sketch of Wayne's World counting the Top 10, well if you guys saw the show you know what I'm talking about.

The Oscars wouldn't have two big stars like Robert Downey, Jr. and Jack Black play their signature characters Ironman and Kung Fu Panda and air a hilarious sketch of Ironman "assaulting" Kung Fu Panda in an effort to please Ben Stiller's nephew.

The one thing the Oscars have is notoriety, the big winners in the Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress categories are held in more regard than the Best Movie, Best Male Performance and Best Female Performance.

It's not like the MTV Awards doesn't recognize the nominees chosen by the Oscars. Ellen Page who was nominated in the Best Actress category for Juno won Best Female Performance, Javier Bardem nominated for Best Supporting Actor for No Country Old Men and Johnny Depp nominated for Best Actor for Sweeney Todd were both nominated for Best Villain (Depp won in this category). Last year's winner for Best Villain was Jack Nicholson in The Departed who won Best Supporting Actor.

I guess the Oscar will forever be the popular trophy, but it's about time the golden popcorn get some love, who's with me.
