Bob Pursell: coming back home
Posted Friday, June 6, at 11:12 AM
After a long career driving a truck in California, Bob Pursell decided to retire in Mountain Home in 2004.
Pursell wasn't a stronger to the city, having graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1959. Today, he spends his time just trying to stay busy with yard work and occasionally volunteering at the Senior Citizen Center. He calls the center 'the best thing to happen to us," referring to his family. Before his dad's death, Pursell said receiving his meal on wheels meal was the highlight of his dad's day. "The meals on wheels, the activities, the things they do for seniors are fantastic," he said. To show his appreciation for the Center, Pursell volunteers to drive the Center's bus. Having made it a career, driving is nothing new to Pursell, who said he likes to get out and go some place different. He got out and went a lot of places different when he enlisted in the Navy in 1959. While in the Navy, Pursell served with two familiar faces on his ship, his brothers Dave and Bill. The three, along with a brother on another ship, were radar men. Neither brother would make the Navy a career and Bob would be the first to get out in 1963 because their father had been in the military and he was tired of moving. "All my dad did was travel. I wanted to set roots for my children," he said. So he got out and went about setting down roots for his family. Thirty-five years later, he returned to his own roots where he can be with his mother and brothers.
Don Kubitschek: Former Marine made kids sweat Residents of Mountain Home may not know Don Kubitschek by name or face, but they would know if they saw his truck. His 1985 Mazda pickup truck is painted Bronco Blue with a bronco on the hood and sidelines numbers on the side. Visitors to his garage are welcomed by a piece of Boise State's original famed turf...
Gean Villeneuve: A brother's chore, a life-long hobby When Gean Villenuve was 12 years old, his brother gave him a simple task: finish the valve job he had started on his '44 Ford.
At the time, Villeneuve knew as much about cars as most 12 year olds know. Luckily for him, and his brother, he ran into one of his dad's friends who happened to be a mechanic...

Interview with a Stranger Robert J. Taylor writing as Chase Adams ![]() - Blog RSS feed - Comments RSS feed - Login I stole the idea to profile a random person from a teacher who told me about it in college. This guy who works for the Lewiston Tribune does -or used to- calls a random person in the phone book and profiles that person in Friday's paper.
The idea is to interview a person chosen at random off the streets of Mountain Home once a week or every other week and profile them.
Everybody has a story, you couldn't get to where you are today without your past. The idea is to profile just average, everyday people.
