Follow me at the Olympics

Posted Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11:39 PM

Earlier tonight (Tuesday) I logged into facebook to see a friend's status read "has a passport, now she needs a destination."

Someone suggested Canada.

I said, "I'll go."

A short time later, she asked me if I were serious. I told her not if it was a trip across the Idaho border to some random town, but if it was Vancouver, count me in.

She got a couple more of her friends, and a friend of a friend who I also happen to be friends with, to sign on and the next thing I know, my weekend plans went from nonexistent to going to the Olympics with four college girls.

I'm not really sure how these things happen to me, but they do.

So tomorrow afternoon, I'll head back up to Moscow -- I was there yesterday -- and on Thursday, leave for Vancouver.

Other than hostel rooms, we have no other plans or event tickets, so I have no idea what to expect, but figuring it out as we go is going to be half the fun.

You can follow me live as I'll be live blogging the trip as we go at http://twitter.com/RobertsRandoms.

It's going to be an epic weekend.

The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
