Topless Mormon calendar a no-go

I'm not. She is.

Who doesn't like to look at shirtless Mormon guys?

The church's 12 member disciplinary council, that's who (and straight guys everywhere).

This guy, Chad Hardy, thought it would be a good idea to produce a calendar of 12 return missionaries without their shirts on.

He apparently wanted to shake up Mormon stereotypes.

I used to think all Mormons were odd people who just want to get married at a young age and have as many babies as possible, often times with more than one wife.

It turns out, I was wrong. I now know Mormons are just like the rest of us, expect, they are all buff and like to stand around with their shirts off.

The church should be extremely gratefully for Hardy's work to dispute whatever negative, and often wrong, stereotypes people have about practicing Mormons.

"I wondered what would happen if we took that perfect Disneyland image that the church spends millions of dollars cultivating each year and shook it up a little bit," Hardy said.

Guess what happens when you shake up a multi-million dollar image? They kick you out of their church.

Which must be a pretty big punishment for someone who hasn't gone to church since 2002 and is selling 10,000 calendars at $15 a piece while living in Sin City.

While everyone knows sex sells, must it be used to sell God too? Some people say yes, including a Hardy-supporter that said the calendar may make it easier for their non-member friends to consider exploring the religion.

"What?!? You're religion has topless guys? Sweet, sign me up!" I'm sure his non-member friends are now screaming.

Hardy said the calendar has created an interfaith dialogue. Though it's probably Catholics telling them girls in Catholic school girl uniforms are hotter. Physical attributions of a church's members should not factor into a serious discussion on religion.

Hardy complained before his punishment that he felt his freedom of speech rights were being violated. After being given the boot, he said "I felt like I spoke my truth. Bottom-line, they still felt the calendar is inappropriate and not the image that the church wants to have."

Hardy acts as if he's surprised a religion that preaches modesty and encourages its members to maintain a clean image wants to separate itself from someone who hasn't been active in the church in years and is trying to make a quick buck going against the church's image.

He acts as if he exposed some great injustice going on behind closed doors, not just his buddies' nipples.

He should write a letter to the church thanking them for funding his product's publicity campaign.

Though, it's odd that he has been excommunicated while the calendar's 12 models have faced no disciplinary action.

Have you ever tried to make a topless guy calendar without any topless guys?

Yes I have experience situations more or less like this with Mormon Church.

(I have a blog if you wish to see it.)
