From My Cold Dead Fingers

Posted Monday, November 10, 2008, at 10:16 AM

I'm occasionally questioned, both on my blogs and in public, about all of this "2nd Amendment paranoia", what's so wrong about at least getting rid of the "assault rifles" and why are all the "gun nuts" in such a fervor about Obama, they're buying out the gun stores? Have we all gone over the edge? And really...........isn't the Second Amendment just a single issue? Is that the only one that matters to you, Mike?

Yes it is. Because without it, you can't protect the rest of them, so I'm going to tell you non-gunners a few things you WON'T hear from the media, so that you might better understand why we "rednecks" cling to our guns as we do.

To begin with, our founding fathers knew all about oppressive governments. They had just thrown one OFF, and didn't use the Obama "sit down and parlay with the enemy" method to DO it. There was a lot of blood spilled so you and I can sit down today and own a home, a business, or just watch the Superbowl. So we could be free to speak, worship, vote and live as we wish.

To most politicians, power is intoxicating. Our founders knew that even back then, and so our Constitution was drafted expressly to keep our government ANSWERABLE to the citizens.

It is well that the First and Second Amendments are in the order they are. First, the freedom of speech........and secondly, the means to back it up. This is why the 2nd Amendment is so important...........even if you DON'T own, or even LIKE guns, the 2nd Amendment is YOUR most vital issue, whether you know it or not. If we ever lose it, the rest are gone as soon as "Big Brother" decides to come in and take what he wants. Who's to stop him?.....With what?

That Amendment was put in place to keep government in check. The job of government is to GOVERN......not RULE. On OUR end of it, it becomes the difference between being a citizen, or being merely a subject.

So this business of "gun control", that many believe to be some sort of crime prevention program, is nothing more than a subterfuge. Gun control isn't about guns, it's about control.

Genocide has never, and WILL never happen in a country where its citizens have the means to resist. Six million ARMED Jews would not have gone to the ovens.

"OK Bazookaman..........but at least concede THIS........why do we need AR-15's to hunt deer?"

We don't. But if you give them up as some sort of "comprimise", your Remington 7mm Magnum rifle......you know, the one that shoots Ted Kennedy's "cop-killer" bullets........will be next, followed by that old 30-30 Winchester lever action with its "high capacity" under-the-barrel tube magazine.

That old Browning 12 gauge pump shotgun your grandfather left you when he died, is still something you could "assault" someone with, so it too will eventually be labelled as an "assault weapon."

"That's absurd!"

Really?.........you obviously have a computer or you wouldn't be reading this. Look up H.R.1022, one of MANY anti-gun proposals sponsored by our "party of change", and see what else is on the first list besides AR's and AK's. This is why the NRA will NEVER comprimise. They KNOW as do most of us gun owning individuals, what ANY comprimise will lead to. I don't have a problem with a good neighbor who might own a belt-fed machine gun. I WANT him next door if we're ever invaded from outside OR WITHIN.

I AM concerned with some punk down the street with a switchblade, a growing record with the local police, who's "not really at fault, because he comes from a dysfunctional family, and we just need to show a little more COMPASSION."

Queen liberal Dianne Feinstein has openly stated that if it were in HER power, she would say "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in." Her words.

And as of January, it just about WILL be in her power. The AR-15/AK-47/UZI thing is to appeal to your "common sense." But those of us on the "powder end" of it have watched these snakes for decades now. We've watched every backdoor/around the barn rider bill proposed. They don't want my AK..............they want them all. They're just smart enough to KNOW better than to go for them all at once, and that might change after Obama is sworn in.

"AH-HAH!!!!(says people like Ex-Intern).........I KNEW you couldn't resist whacking on HIM..........ADMIT IT!"

Guilty as charged. And so is he. The newsmedia that got him elected, tells us he SUPPORTS the 2nd Amendment, and that's what HE said as well......when he needed votes. Biden, an even BIGGER antigun snake, avoided that subject like the plague.

But what Obama has VOTED for in the past, is a much clearer picture of where he stands. Matter of RECORD....he wants a 500% sales tax on ALL guns and ammunition.

He wants a complete handgun ban and revocation of all concealled carry permits. ON THE RECORD

He wants no gunshops to exist within 5 miles of any school. ON THE RECORD.....(study the geographics of THIS one!)

He wants anyone using a firearm to defend his own home or family prosecuted. ON THE RECORD

He wants to re-establish lawsuits against gun manufacturers if one of their guns is used in a crime. ON THE RECORD (And the crime is usually committed by some gangbanger that already HAS a record as long as his leg, and should have been put away for keeps long ago)

He seems to admonish those of us who "cling to our guns and religion" as some kind of redneck outcasts, doesn't he?

Now..........take what he has said and voted for, add that to Biden's antigun record (and we won't even go into that--------check it for yourself). Look at Pelosi's record in California with her girlfriend Dianne.

Open your computer into the world of congress and see every proposed gun ban/restriction/confiscation bill already introduced and/or waiting in the wings.........noting that EVERY one of them is sponsored by a Democrat.

In the final tally, you see that as of January 20th, it is ALL theirs, with virtually NO Republican opposition..........................................................it doesn't take rocket science to understand why gun stores all over this country are being bought out. (Paranoia, of course..........nothing to base any of it on).

I don't really see a physical confiscation attempt. There was a time when I did, but there's too many of us now, and with bad attitudes to boot. I DO think they're going to at the very LEAST, attempt to shut down manufacturers and imports. Cut off the supply, if you will. Luckily, ENOUGH of us have seen this coming for years and were not caught wanting.

Most of the voters in this country, while still in the "feel-good/we've made a statement/honeymoon" mode, have no idea what they've potentially opened our country up to.

I'm NOT saying it's gonna happen.........but whatever DOES follow, good, bad or otherwise, there will be NOTHING to stop it, for at least another two years.

Some of you make jokes and mock us now, but the time will come, when a lot of you will wish you had more in your home than a baseball bat.

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

And for you "scholars" out there, who argue that the Second Amendment applies only to "militia.".........you're absolutely right. It does.

Next time you're close to Webster's...look that word up. And when we check up a bit further, we find the word "militia" determined by our founding fathers THEMSELVES as "All able bodied men over the age of 17, capable of bearing arms in chaotic times."

The Minutemen.............you and I. They couldn't have been clearer......................but Barack knows best, eh?

I'm going to follow this blog up later tonight or maybe tomorrow with what I will call the "Anti-Gunner's Glossary."

Today being the 233rd Anniversary of the Marine Corps, and tomorrow being Veteran's Day........this would seem to be an IDEAL tie to write both of them.

Can you imagine how many TRAINLOADS it would take to carry THAT much peperwork?

-- Posted by bazookaman on Mon, Nov 17, 2008, at 9:14 AM

The reference to paperwork wasn't specifically about gun registration, just about people's complaints about government bureacracy in general.

-- Posted by ExInternMike on Sun, Nov 16, 2008, at 9:06 PM

But you know, Ex-Intern.....we've ALREADY been doing the paperwork for years. A lot of people are so uninformed on that. They think we all need to "register" our guns to please this corrupt government.

Truth is.....EVERY TIME you buy a new gun, it is registered the minute you fill out the paperwork and the clearance is called into D.C.

The hoods don't buy new guns because they can't pass the background check and they know it, so they buy THEIRS out on the street, or on the black market, or they steal them.

In a proposed government takeover, all the Feds have to do to find the HONEST guns, is send their ATF "goon squads" into sporting goods stores and pick up all the Form 4473's, that WE fill out as good honest citizens, and they know right where to go to attempt collection..............and notice I use the word "attempt,"

You see.........the bad guys automatically get a free pass. Why should the HONEST have to help create their own paper trail when the THIEVES do NOT?

This "gun control" crap is a DIRECT violation on the rights and freedoms of honest citizens.

There are a LOT of reasons we've become so resistant................and it WILL stiffen........we are sick and tired of being harrassed, while the criminal element's deeds are continually "plea bargained" away.

The system REFUSES to bring the heavy heat on the slimeballs when they catch them.........................easier and "safer" (used to be, anyway), to inflict more laws and restrictions on the honest.

Yes............you may gather that I......like so many others.......have developed a nasty rebel attitude on this subject, and rightfully so.

When guns are outlawed (as they WILL be under Obama and Biden.............I'll be an outlaw.

And why not? The outlaws have more rights than WE do!

Darned good point, Ex-Intern.

-- Posted by bazookaman on Sun, Nov 16, 2008, at 8:09 AM

And if government is the "problem" then why are you so eager to give them authority to kill? If a government can't adequately administer health care or disaster relief, then how can it be trusted not to execute the innocent?

Being dead is a much greater inconvenience than a long line or filling out some paperwork.

If a ban on gun shops within a certain distance of schools and playgrounds is a violation of the Second Amendment, then a ban on strip clubs and porn stores within a certain distance of schools and playgrounds - and such bans are not uncommon - would be a violation of the First Amendment.

I am well aware of the NRA,I was talking about marches man. Protests, demonstrations. The type of action that is supposed to keep America clean.

-- Posted by Jacknife on Thu, Nov 13, 2008, at 2:29 PM

They're already organized, it's called the NRA, and it's why I don't think Obama and the congressional leadership - particularly in the Senate - is going to get around to gun control in four years. They want to hold on to North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania too badly. Howard Dean, who got an A+ rating from the NRA every year he was governor if memory serves me, showed them traditionally conservative states can be fought for. They're not going to jeopardize their chance at setting the agenda on every other issue for federal gun control legislation, at least, not in the next four years.

And that's still four years to rationally point out to gun control supporters that prohibitionist measures have never and will never work, and that most of our urban gun violence is criminal empires protecting their bootleg racket, whether it be drugs, prostitutes, or gambling. Giving them a new one won't help.

That's not saying the constitutional argument is wrong - it's a right recognized in our Constitution that also happens to be the best policy. Like having law enforcement get warrants also reduces frivolous investigations and due process also doesn't waste finite jail space on people who are innocent - two other parts of the Constitution Republicans have shown themselves to be the less-reliable party on.

Well just speaking in the terms of procrastination, You guys need to start organizing marches and protest before the ball gets rolling. Get the permits to hold peace-able demonstrations before it's to late. There'd be a whole lot less violence if your voice is heard before they try to change the laws. Hell, I'd even join the march. As long as it's against a twisted Government trying to take the citizens rights away.

You're right, Jacknife, it DOES begin at home. How often have you seen small children defying their parents in a big store someplace, even to the point of telling mom or dad to "shut up?"

Nothing is done, not even a well earned swat on the butt. It is quickly forgotten who is the child and who is the parent.

15 years later when that kid is locked up on a felony, these same parents either can't figure out where they went wrong, or they blame society for "making that child what he's become."

People are spending what they're spending on guns right now for two reasons:

1. They know that with an established anti-gunner like Obama and a supporting congress all getting ready to take over, if they DON'T get what they need NOW, they probably won't be able to later.

2. Procrastination. When you wait until "the sky appears to be falling" because you didn't read and heed prior to this, it enters the arena of "supply and demand."

Well said Mike.

Holy cow man. Your right on the criminal level of course. But the beginning of punishment and taking personal responsibility begins in the home. And now a days parents are to consumed with being considered cool, instead of taking the lash as it were to their back ends. Then while in school, if the little brats get in trouble the teachers and administrators are powerless to teach them a lesson, because it's considered evil to punish them. So they just keep moving that way, with lack of responsibility while playing video games until they get their guns. And make the average gun owner look bad. Yes strange that I would agree with ya, but it's the truth. Hardly anyone takes responsabilty for their actions anymore, and all the cops and judges seem interested in is collecting fines. My main gripe is that during these economic times, that people would spend 500 to 700 dollars on guns, when in all likelyhood they will need that extra cash for food or paying bills. But who am I to tell people how to shop. right? I do own a gun, that I bought when I was 20. But it's nothing special just a 22 pistol, that I had to wait three days to get because of laws. But I didn't complain about it. I wasn't in dire-straights, no thugs coming for me or animals that needed killing for food. But hey, whatever. That's just my situation and I guess everyone has different obsessions. I'll bother you no more on the gun angle. But I'll be back for other topics. Booo hahahahaaaa.

Doesn't work well at all in a lot of the inner cities. Some of the most populated "inner cities" in this country have the toughest gun laws.

New York, Washington D.C. (until recently) and others, have laws already where all handguns are banned.

What this means in "real time" Jacknife, is that everyone's home is OPEN to the thugs....who incidently, do NOT follow gun laws any better than they follow others. Only the bad guys and the cops are armed.

There ARE no "reasonable gun laws." They are ALL aimed at the eventual confiscation of every piece, until the citizens become subjects.

You want a cure for this "horrible disease?" I know this is a "foreign" idea to you libs, but how about putting the "heat" on the hoods, instead of the law abiding?

How about if we started cleaning out Death Row everywhere, and begin ELIMINATING these convicted killers instead of supporting them for 20 years?

Extend the death penalty to drug dealers and child molesters.

A 10 year sentence for grand theft or something like it, means TEN years.......not 2 with 8 in probation.

Make punishment so tough, a punk would be afraid to steal an apple from Albertson's.

The hoods have lost their fear of punishment, because there is so little of it now, through these scumbag attorneys who make all these deals.

WHAT??? Slam the bad guys? What about their rights?

Yeah.............what ABOUT their rights?

Jacknife, you guys will never understand that we do NOT have a crime problem in America because of firearms. We have a crime problem in this country because we have a weak-kneed, bleeding heart judicial system that TOLERATES it.

They used to hang horse thieves, in the middle of town. The whole public turned out for it INCLUDING the kids, who saw first hand what happens to criminals. This was long before "Nintendo Games" where the guy comes back to life 10 seconds later.

Sure, they still had their "Jesse James'" and "John Dillingers", but NOWHERE near the percentages they have now.

There were no mall shootings back then, by some dink looking for his "15 minutes of fame."

EVERYBODY "carried" back then. Anybody dumb enough to walk into a town hall meeting and start flinging lead, would immediately be facing 30 Colts. And they KNEW it.

Even during Al Capone's time, we lived in a polite society. Everybody "packed" then too, and you never knew what somebody might have in their vest pocket, so you rarely saw a skirmish on the streets, you surely didn't insult the gentleman's lady.....you had to watch your step.

Oh..the gangs fought it out with each other and sometimes with the cops, but these "home invasions" and random "drive by shootings" were too risky for most to attempt.

When the Feds began forcing us to become "civilized" in 1968, the laws only hampered the law abiding. 40 years later, we're still living under restrictive regulations, and there are more coming...........unless you're a bad guy who doesn't play by the rules.

You've obviously not bought a gun through a dealer or a gunshow, or you'd KNOW about background checks and waiting periods.

Well, I'm keeping MINE, Jacknife, and I don't care who doesn't like it, included that clown who just got elected.

Charlton Heston...From His Cold Dead Hands...

Look, I know that its not popular to dis Moses and whoever else old Charlie played, and I know that it was all probably due to the early effects of Alzheimers, but this guy has not been good for our society, our kids, and the future of our culture. How's that gun "right" working out for the kids in our inner cities and as we defund education, the economy dips, and people become more and more desperate? Who parlayed the "right" to have a rifle to hunt and maybe for self protection at the beginning of time, into the "right" to have an AK-47 or a hand gun, without having to go through the inconvenience of a waiting period? Besides the ravages of Alzheimer's, he was a real weight on the progress that this human society struggles with every day around the world.

Nice of Prezzy Bush to hold his hand tho, even as with the other hand he is working hard all the time to prevent any hope for the cure of this horrible disease....and with one hand he clutches the cold suffering hand that supports the supposed intent of the founders, as he lays waste to any reasonable laws about automatic/semi-automatic guns that might allow the founder's intent to be carried out.
