As much as I don't support George Bush, I need to address those of you out there who blame his administration for the high cost of fuel.
To be sure, I think Bush is the most inept politician to ever occupy the Oval Office. From immigration to the Patriot Act to what I call "Vietnam II." An oldtime Republican, I am embarassed at what the GOP has become because of Bush and McCain both.
HOWSOEVER.......if you don't like what you're paying at the pumps, go talk to a Democrat about that. One of the few things George Bush HAS done right, he did shortly after taking office in 2001.
We have more oil reserves in the artic than the Arabs can even comprehend. The newly-sworn-in Bush wanted to start drilling up there.....but lo and behold, here came the liberals, like cockroaches out of the woodwork, whining and crying about the possible disruption of elk, owls, chipmunks and God knows what else, if we even THOUGHT of drilling up there. Congress voted against it, and Bush basically said "OK.........if you'd rather keep paying OPEC............
Today, gasoline in Mexico is still just over the two-dollar mark. Mexico of course, pumps its OWN oil...........just like WE could have been doing right now.
So you can hammer "King George" for all the illegals here, the needless deaths of our servicemen through his ill-run war, and a dozen other things.......and rightfully so.
But it WAS Bush who wanted to drill up there SEVEN YEARS AGO, until the tree huggers managed to get it disapproved. So now we're paying the Arabs nearly four bucks per....and the "summer gouging" hasn't even started, yet!
So you Democrats out there, condemn all you want, enjoy your courtship with Obama, Hillary or McCain, because you're absolutely right on most issues............but this business of $3.66 for regular and $4.39 for diesel????? THIS one is YOURS, folks. The Republicans wanted to drill. You guys didn't, and you controlled the Congress then, as you still do today.
So people..........if you leave Chevron, Shell, Texaco or anywhere else, feeling like you've been robbed........take THAT one up with the liberal nearest you. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Yeah, we need to change our driving habits as well. On my way to Boise the other day, people were still blowing by me at 80 to 85!
I'm with you here, Mike. But I'd also like some real gasoline conservation too: fewer, closer trips; only one shopping day per week, etc. Maybe,if it's possible, get a vehicle that's more efficient. We had no choice a little while back but to finally get a "new" vehicle (2 years old) but it was a real bargain and the gas mileage is much better than the 70's pickup we were driving.
